A fun way to get back into disc golf. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pros for the course:

Easy to figure out the course once you get started.
Nice clean fairways with a few trees here and there.
Interesting home layouts.

Cons:

Cons:

A few pins were hard to see.
Holes 6 & 7 could be nightmares for new players. The name Tallgrass fits the park here.
Not necessarily the most beginner friendly but a worthy challenge or goal down the road.

Other Thoughts:

I took my son here for his first round of disc. It was also my first return course after a 15 year hiatus from disc. 6 and 7 were intimidating but we persevered none the less. I think this will be a course I will be returning to in the future to challenge myself.

Nicely laid out for the most part. We might do a modified 9 holes skipping 7 and replacing with a different hole just as a way to keep my son from losing discs.

Glad I have a short course near the house.

Shmeh Neighborhood 9er 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 18, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- 9 well mounted Mach III's with hole number plates on top. They're all in good shape.
- 9 good-sized and appropriately textured concrete tee pad.
- Course plays around a well maintained park in a nicer area of Aurora. Fairways are mostly through the natural grass but a couple play across the good green stuff.
- Mostly appropriate hole lengths for what appears to be Rec/Intermediate audience. They range from around 150'-350'.
- Good use of the available elevation. Bit of up and a bit of down. Nothing too substantial but certainly enough to entertain most golfers who'd be playing here, me included. A nice aspect for this level of course.
- Two holes play over a cattail swamp adding some risk reward element.
- The small trees that are out there are brought into play a little. Pretty soft from this standpoint but better than no trees?
- Free to play.

Cons:

- Complete lack of navigational infrastructure. No course map/kiosk, no tees signs, no directional aids. This feels like a common theme for my reviews lately but "entry level" courses should make this part of the game easy.
- All sorts of user conflict and safety concerns. Walking paths riddle the park and course. Many of these are blind from the tee and many targets are far too close to them. Hole 4 has a row of backyards running the whole length on the left side. Hole 5 has a basketball court about circle's edge deep. Hole 6's target is right near the sidewalk and neighborhood street. I played at 1pm on a random Friday and had to wait a couple-three times. I had my wife walking along so fortunately she could do some safety spotting. Disaster from this standpoint.
- As the trees in the park aren't substantial there really isn't much required for getting off the tees or shot shaping. Rather bland from this perspective. Pretty much just ranging hyzers/insert preferred throwing style here.
- Those cattail swamps look like serious disc eaters. Not great for a lower skill level track. Hole 7(the second of the swamp carries) has a second swamp behind the pin which is blind from the tee.
- While the tees are well built, they are often merged in with the nearby paths and, without any signage, can be a little tough to spot. A few don't point you at the target.
- Hole 4 is substantially longer than the rest of the track, blind from the tee, and blind most of the way down as a goodly number of small pines have been planted in what was likely once the fairway. There's also a walking path that winds the length of the hole, mostly blind within those trees. Guessing these were planted when the housing development that runs the length of that hole was built up. It's just not a good or safe hole and doesn't fit with the rest of the track.

Other Thoughts:

This is a strange one. Some solid work went into the install but it seems the course was never finished or whoever did the install doesn't believe in signage. The user conflict/safety issues are terrible. That said, I sure enjoyed my round as there are fun throws and mostly ace runs for me. I hit it when the park was relatively quiet and, as my wife noted, "You keep saying how some things about this course are terrible but you have such a big smile on your face". Silly course baggers...

If you can play here off hours and stay aware of other park users, it's a fine and quick spin. For the intended level of golfers, it's got some good aspects but overall not ideal. Struggled a bit with numerical rating on this, let's call it a weak 1.5 because of the lack of infrastructure and safety concerns. My wife says it's a 2/5 because of the Play it Again Sports that's 5 minutes away and Taqueria Jalisco's margaritas(same shopping center as PIAS). If they served those margs at the park...maybe I'd bump it. Baggers should bag it, locals should find better options if they can.

2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 14, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- new concrete tee pads
- new mach 3 baskets
- most of the shots a fairly beginner friendly easy shots, mostly around 200 feet
- little bit of elevation change
- nice little park
- you can park right by hole one, quick play course

Cons:

- no tee signs
- flow of the course isn't super easy to follow
- clearly a beginner course, however holes 4, 6 and 7 are not beginner friendly holes at all. You can easily loose a disc if you can't throw 275 feet on hole 6.
-4 and 7 are blinds shots making it easy to lose a disc on

Other Thoughts:

Good warm up course for a decent player but not as much of a beginner course as it seems. Sort of a tweener course, not really sure who should be playing this course.

Practice in the Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun little course that runs through a well maintained park. For the most part it is a short practice course, but there are actually a couple of more difficult holes sprinkled in (4 & 7). Brand new DGA baskets and large concrete tee pads are great.

I see some great opportunities to incorporate alternate tee pad locations for pro/am or an alternate 9.

Cons:

There are definitely some safety concerns with this course. Some of the holes (particularly 2,4, & 7) play across or near sidewalks that run through the park with basically blind shots. There was no one else on the course when I was there, but there were plenty of people in the park and on the sidewalks. I was being extra careful around these holes, but it definitely detracted from my overall experience.

Like others have mentioned there is absolutely zero signage or way-finding on the course (besides basket numbers). I was able to navigate the course easily with a map provided on the U-Disc app, but without that I imagine it would have been difficult to navigate.

Other Thoughts:

The course could be much better with a few improvements, but overall I enjoyed it. I wish more parks around the Denver metro area would incorporate these types of courses. Its a great way for beginners to get into the sport and for seasoned players to get a quick practice round in.

Above all else I believe the safety issues need to be addressed here. It would be shame for someone to get hurt or the baskets pulled because of one errant throw. It would really only take a few new basket locations and some signage and course would be a lot better off.

Executive course and practice area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Concrete pads
No geese poop

Cons:

Course is very short
Lack of signage

Other Thoughts:

This is a great short course for players who want to practice their short game and putting. Course goes around a large field, which can be used for driving practice as well.

Pitch & Putt 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great tee pads and good baskets.
It is in a nice park.

Cons:

No signs so it can be hard to follow.
No tee box for hole #3.
#7 hole has the drive over a swamp and it is easy to lose a disc. Strange for a beginner course.
Baskets spin, so you can't see the hole# on them.
Only hole #4 has decent difficulty.

Other Thoughts:

Expect a very short pitch and putt course. The designer did what they could with the land given, but it is not worth a long trip just to check out.
