[Discraft] Comet love?

Got my jawbreaker comet, it flexed out of a big anny line, first time I've had a comet do that
I had the same thing happen throwing mine today. I was throwing it on mostly flat release lines an comparing the glide and fade compared to other stable/over stable comets. Then I tried a big sweeping anny glide out shot and watched it turn out and finish hyzer.

These jawbreaker flex Z's are certainly overstable. I'm very curious how they'll handle wind and if what the break in will look like.

I don't need any more Comets. I have more than I will ever throw. I've been playing the one-off specialty run game for too long. I'm done with this madness. Also, I haven't thrown since April 21st; I moved, I know no one, and I jut haven't been super motivated to go throw. So I don't even play disc golf anymore. I certainly don't need more golf discs I won't throw.

So, uhhhh...How would you compare this to a Roc?

Closer than any Comet before it, other than maybe the Ron Russells.

I was in a store the other day and had the opportunity to feel a Big Z Comet. It was super flat, and felt great. Might make a perfect complement to my glow Roc3s.
I'd like to buy it, but am curious if it will fly at all like one I had back in the day. It was a domey Z. No fade, just huge glide and practically no turn. I just could never get over the uncomfortable amount of dome, and weird feel in the hand.

Also, does anybody have experience with the MJ Z UV comets? I like the idea of a glow compliment, too.

Depends a bit on the thrower, when it comes to the Big Z stability. I find them on the overstable side for a Comet, but I lack any heavy, old Z ones to compare to. My throw is very touchy though, and I tend to prefer my light weight Comets. For someone with a bit more power to their throw, they would probably be pretty straight compared to how they fly for me.

The UV Z ones are comparable to the Z Swirl ones Ledgestone sells. Significantly more turn resistance than one would typically expect from a Comet, and a more pronounced fade. I use the Z Swirl for shots I want to really get some oomph into, but don't want to turn too far. The UV ones I have fly about the same, but the straight portion of their flight is maybe a small bit longer.

So I've got 3 of the JB Z Comets coming in (Marshall St finally got them!) and I'm keeping a pair, with the other one going to a friend that I promised I'd get one for when I could chose them individually. I'm hoping one of them is somewhat flat (likely more Comet like), but if they're as beefy as some of y'all are saying, I could definitely use that.

So I bought one of the new glow Comets at DGLO.

Don't.

There isn't a glow plastic on the market, current or past, that glows worse. Not even that old glow stuff Innova used to get made fun of for.

If I were Discraft, I would be straight up embarrassed at how badly that plastic glows. It's unremarkable as far as Comets go. Just another Z Comet. Not worth a penny more than the regular Z ones. I put my glow bag together for the season last week, and while I do have a light weight, pre moon stamp Z Comet in it for turnover duties, the role of "flip up, fly, and fade back" will be played by the glow TSA Mana, or maybe even a glow MVP Detour.

It's a shame, really. I've been excited to see Discraft figuring out how to make Comets with the old school dome again. I was hopeful that I might get to add a modern glow one of those to the bag...

Is this the Crystal Glo that you're talking about? I usually buy every comet that is released, but for some reason this one didn't speak to me.

Yeah, with the 8-bit video game style stamp. I'll see if I can remember to get some pics compared to my other glow plastics tonight. It's pathetic.

Ok, here it is. There are 5 discs here. The top one is a Photon Glo Magnet, left is a glow Z Comet from before they came up with the moon stamp (so something like 18 years old?), bottom left is a TSA Mana (MVP Eclipse plastic), bottom right is a first run glow Comet (first run as in 1995), and finally right is the Cryztal Glo Comet.

The 4 discs you can SEE were glowed up several minutes before this picture. I then went to town on the new Comet, set it down, and immediately took the pic.

Pathetic.

That lack of glow is ridiculous. I don't know what would be harder to find, a glow comet at night or cosmic neutron in the day.

I've recently become a comet convert. I have a flattish 165 z comet that had become my primary mid. It's magical in the woods. I hardly ever throw my roc3s anymore.

I picked up a domey 173 z comet and I'm not clicking with it as much. I'm not sure if I'm not getting as clean of a release as with my flatter comets or if it just has less mojo.

Curl your hand around the dome on the heavier one a bit more. I feel more like I'm leading with the back of my hand with those, than my knuckles

So the Throw Shop here in Ypsilanti has some Z Glow Comets that aren't part of Discraft's recent "seasonal glow" offerings. I picked one up, for the glow tournament this past weekend.

The glow? Fantastic. Easily as good as MVP's Eclipse. It doesn't glow as brightly initially, but it doesn't fade as quick, and it glows brighter after that initial burst while being hit with the UV. So bright, it lights up the ground and trees as it flies by.

The flight? Okay, so I know I said I like the JB Z FLX Comet, because it has a big notch more stability than regular Comets, and it opens up some interesting shots but... This had better not be the way they're engineering Comets to fly now. This thing is easily as stable as that plastic. A completely different beast than my older Z Glow Comets (pre-moon-stamp). Turn resistance of a Buzzz, fade of a Wasp, glide of a Comet. I'm hoping it's just these two plastics being more overstable. Either way, I guess I've got that slot filled for both day, and night rounds...

Dang. So that is NOT what I want in a comet. I use my hex for that. I want a comet to be straight and glidey on a touchy throw... with the ability to turn when I get on it.

Glad I have a whole bunch of LE's in storage

I'm down to my last 2 LEs 😭

Yeah the JBZFLX and new Z Glow ones are...not what you'd expect from a Comet. I don't mind, per se, because the regular production ones are still proper Comets, but overall the mold has been getting more and more overstable over time, and I think that's a move in the wrong direction. I do like that the old school shoulder and dome have made a reappearance in more recent runs, after years of flat and rounded dome being all you could find, so maybe things will return to form soon. In the meantime, I bag 6 Comets in my full tournament bag, because the different plastics and shapes can make throwing certain lines easier, and I don't have to worry about putting more wear on the LE I bag when I could throw something else for that shot...
