Rock*I support discraft but innova sucks. Except for the scorpion and the roc... if you like a clunky mid. Haha
Elite Pro! Chalky finish, or was that rubbed off by now?I just got this Comet in the mail after I found it on Ebay for $13. This thing looks like it was thrown maybe 3 times, if that, and had no ink on it. I can't wait to throw it. **Comet not actual size

I think this is Tournament Pro. It does have the chalky feel to it, not worn off at all. The very first disc I bought when I started playing in 1996 was a Comet just like this, but red. I still have it. I'm glad to hear it's more understable, that's what I'm used to with my X's. My MJ's are a bit more stable.Elite Pro! Chalky finish, or was that rubbed off by now?
They're on the flippier side of Comets - around what X Comets fly like, maybe a hair flippier.
Sorry - you're right. Elite Pro was just the first and super early runs. Bar stamp, not that one. I had a brain fartI think this is Tournament Pro. You are flipped. Tournament Pro AKA Cyclone plastic was what the first run Comets and all runs through at least '00 were made in. Elite Pro plastic debuted with the X2 in '98 and was specific to the APX/MRV/MRX/XL/X2/XS/Xtra/Xtreme lineup.Sorry - you're right. Elite Pro was just the first and super early runs. That's an interesting bit of history, thanks! You are flipped. Tournament Pro AKA Cyclone plastic was what the first run Comets and all runs through at least '00 were made in. Elite Pro plastic debuted with the X2 in '98 and was specific to the APX/MRV/MRX/XL/X2/XS/Xtra/Xtreme lineup.
Discraft originally didn't cross molds/plastics very often, so a mold generally just came in one plastic (The Hawk and Vortex were exceptions). The Comet, HD Hawk, Vortex, Stratus, Cyclone, Cyclone 2, Typhoon and X-Clone were the Tournament Pro discs, The Magnet, Hawk, Eclipse, Tracer, and Marauder were run in a more DX-ish plastic called Competition plastic. The Vortex started as a Competition plastic disc and was converted to Tournament Pro later (the plastic didn't actually have a name when the Vortex was first run, it's just easier to call it Competition because that's kinda-sorta what it became later). There wasn't any crossover at that time, unless you count the DGA discs like Flathead Cyclones that were competition plastic.
Elite Pro kinda morphs into Elite X at some point; I'm not actually sure if the Comet was ever run in Elite Pro or not. Some people said the Ron Russell signature Comets were Elite Pro, others said they were just Tournament Pro.
Sorry, I mansplained that. I've been told that is a problem I have.
Tournament Pro was like any other plastic; it changed over time. It was firmer to begin with. The general story on it was that it debuted with the Cyclone, but I had Shadows that were either in Tournament Pro or in a transition blend earlier than that. Those Shadows were really stiff but grippy. The early Cyclones I had were not as stiff, but stiffer than the plastic that was around by say '97. TP seemed to get softer/chalkier as time went on. Also the 1st Run Comets were glow, and that changed the feel a little bit as well. That's an interesting bit of history, thanks!
A couple questions:
1. My first run Comets have a different feel than my Tourney Pros - that's why I'd always assumed they were Elite Pro. It feels more like the first run APX I've got. Slicker. Do you know if there was ever a other blend in there somewhere?
2. The flathead cyclone and super drive XL were in Competition plastic? If always wondered what that blend was called. It's AWFUL
I don't want to Debbie Downer you because that looks great and I'd have jumped at it if I had seen it. However clears throat, get Debbie Downer voice in tune Tournament Pro was a weird plastic that seemed to beat in internally VS. DX. DX does that thing where you have a big gash across the disc and it flies fine, but Tournament Pro would look 8/10 and fly 5/10. Back in the day I had a standing rule that I never traded for Cyclones or Comets; you had no way of knowing what you were getting.I just got this Comet in the mail after I found it on Ebay for $13. I've actually had more coming with the old-school dome, than flat ones among my recent purchases. That said, I'm primarily buying special runs like JBZFLX and ESP Sparkle. Puddle top would be uncommon, but not unheard of. We used to get those even back in the LE ESP days (the main reason I hated the orange ones from the later runs, was because they were puddle topped, and way too flippy).I've been throwing a Big Z Comet as my flippy Comet (paired with a Z for straight shots) and sadly left it on the course the other day. Ordered a replacement and it came in *really* flat, like nearly puddle topped. I'm assuming it's warped from how it was packaged but wondered if that's a thing people have noticed lately. I'm going to try to fix it with hot water.
I also grabbed a '23 Ledgestone ESP Sparkle and it's really nice feeling plastic with good dome. Eager to test it out.
I found the detour wasn't happy to shape the variety of lines a Comet can, particularly on the flippier end of the scale. It's happiest flying very straight, much like many of MVP's other offerings.dang i tried the MVP detour and like other's in this thread I've fallen in Lust with it lol as a possible Comet/broken in KC pro roc alternative.
i borrowed my friend's detours and i can throw it just as far as my z comets backhand and it also has the added benefit of being a smaller/flatter disc and easier to sidearm. i can sidearm my z comets just fine but I do like a lighter/simpler bag and i think i'd be able to go with just one detour and a roc3 pair compared to the two z comets of different stability + roc3.

Throwing such a variety of flippy shots with my Comets, I do wonder as to why one would throw one sidearm, though. What sort of line do you use that for?
