any tips or cant misses at shenandoah are welcome too

We camped at Mathews Arm. Nearest shower was 30 miles south at Big Meadows and the speed limit in the park is like 30mph. Both campgrounds are within 20 miles of the route you'd take to get to HH or Blockhouse. Keep food in a vehicle or a bear box. Coolers and other storage containers will get impounded if left unsupervised.

If lodging is more your vibe, Skyland was pretty dope. At the highpoint of the park road and also near the US 211 interchange with Skyline Drive.

Aside from our daytrip to visit Biscoe, we mostly hiked. Dark Hollow Falls was cool, if not crowded. It's walkable from Big Meadows. Elkwallow Wayside was easily hikeable from Mathews Arm, and made the best ribbon fries I've ever had.

Best moment though was watching the sun set from Little Stony Man.

i think there is only goin to be one campground open for april when we wanna go there and its in the middle of the park (cant remember the name)

i know my homie wants to show me old rag and were def goin to do the whole drive and stops along the way

im scooping my homie who lives in baltimore but i didnt realize hh or blockhouse is only 20 min away from certain parts of the park i thought it was farther so that is great logistical info to know

beautiful picture its gettin me super excited to go there

You misunderstand, it's 20 minutes to get to the road out of the park 😁
good lord

when i drove thru yellowstone np it took over 2 hours to leave from our campsite on the southside headed north towards montana

yah that sounds moar right haha

elmex isn't what we would call a "good" trip planner. He just kind of wings it.

elmex: Getting info for a park in VA from a dude from OH on DGCR.

Me: Google.

Hmmm I will watch this one, it's the most conceivable meet up so far. If the Blackball ferry is running it's seven hours from Port Angeles. And there's a deli I need to hit there for a sammich.

I didn't realize you were in BC! Did we ever play together when I lived in Seattle? perhaps you've played with @discRabbit AKA Cefire?

Nope. I don't get out much, I'm tied to the business, which means stuck in the island... if I can make a trip happen I'd like to catch up with @jeffmonty on the way by. I might be able to talk the wife into it.

Oh yeah, hit me up for sure. What deli in P.A.? I used to live up there, but that was 2003-2008

Not sure, I have to ask my dad. Haha.
Blackball Ferry is running, my brother in law is the dock manager there.

This DGCR meet-up sounds awesome, but as it stands me and a group of buddies already have an Air B&B lined up near Sandpoint for 8 days the end of July. Hope you're all able to make it happen!

For what dates? Maybe we can make the meetup in that window.

We've got a house somewhere on Lake Pend Oreille from July 31st to Aug.8. Would be a lot of fun to play some rounds with some of the peeps around here.

What do people think of those dates?

Watching, I might try planning a trip that way if there is something going on. My wife wants to go up that way anyways.

i can do most weekends, so whenever is a good time to play finalized motherload (i played it in may)

October 2022 me and a few friends were at Blockhouse. It looked as if it had once been good, or even great, but maintenance had fallen off. Not sure if we just had shit timing or what happened.

August 2023 stayed at Shenandoah with the fam and made a day trip to HH. No comparison, Hawk Hollow was better by miles.
HH doesn't exactly stand at the head of the class in maintenance either but it is what it is. :)

Whiteoak Canyon trail in the park is nice and not all that far from Old Rag. If you go up Old Rag don't come down the steeper trail after dark (from personal experience).
