I took everyones advice and joined my local DG club, Tulsa Disc Golf Association. Looking forward to getting out and playing with some local people and hopefully learning some more technique, having some good times, and meeting some cool people.

cool but i will have to do that when i get back from afgan... otherwise its a waist for a year... thank you

Are you in the military? Let me know. I do care packages to soldiers and since my old unit is not deployed currently I could use another person to send to.

Joining my local club was a great move. Met some great people and played with some really good disc golfers. It has really helped me improve my game.

Very cool, glad you have good people in your club. I'm a member of mine but I try to have as little as possible to do with most of them. Not real into paying into the best 2 or 3 players' beer fund for the "privilege" of playing with them at league rounds. I like the president and some of the other guys, but the the majority have pretty much ruined it for me. Not saying I won't buy a tag next year, because they do some good stuff and I do support that, but.. guess the local group just isn't my thing. I belong to another one that played out of town, this summer, and the people were great, always had pointers, everything I wished the local one was. The only difference? There was never any money involved, it was always just for the fun of getting out and throwing.

Gangs don't cost money to join, why should a DG club? Time is money, right? Let me volunteer time...I need the money I make to support my Faberge Egg addiction.

does dallas fort worth have a disc golf club... i wanna join

DFW west and south - Funkytown Flyers
DFW north - McKinney Disc Golf Association
DFW east - Rockwall Disc Golf Association

I'm sure there are more, but I think that these are the ones with over 100 members each.

I have had the privelledge of being associated with two of our sports finest local clubs. The Ann Arbor Area Club from Hudson Mills was the 1st club that I joined, and after moving to Florida, I joined the Sarasota Sky Pilots. So I would strogly recommend trying out League play.

The trick to running a good club is to balance the needs of the furiously serious players, with the needs of the chronicly rec players. It also helps to throw awesome tournaments, have a great team of people involved, and have legendary "Awards Ceremoinies"!

Leagues/Clubs are an important part of our sport. They are the grass roots organizations that are integral to getting new courses put in and recruiting new players.

Clubs/Leagues are awesome, I was nervous to show up at first last year, but I've gotten a lot better and more comfortable playing competitively and have made a few new friends. and I've been placing somewhat consistantly

Our league is a handicap league. That helps even the newest members compete. You just have to get them to show up for 3 weeks to establish a handicap. Plus we don't do cash payouts (only for aces) we do "disc credit" which can be used for club discs, clothes, minis, tourney fees, membership fees, etc. Sorry to hear you don't like your local club.

I'm not a huge fan of most of the people in it. Also I think it's been years since they have done a tourney, had a disc made, or updated the website. There are some really cool people, but it's mostly filled will douches. I think they do a handicap round at one of the parks, and it's all about the cash payouts here. Personally I think it needs some new officers, the president is pretty cool guy and seems to be about advancing the sport, but he's about the only one as far as I've seen. The website is a joke. I've been told the city is very reluctant to help out with new land areas, and after seeing our "Chucker" course, I'd be reluctant as well. Thankfully one of the nearby cities have stepped up, put in a course and didn't consult the local club. There is also a lot of bad blood, politics and other stuff that makes it very unappealing. So I have a tag, played for it a few times and got it just so I could play the local "secret" course. Still torn on renewing at the beginning of the year. Might just get a CDSA or Mile High tag.
