[MVP] MVP Disc Sports (Part VI)

Report from the morning playing Oregon Silver to Gold: new Proton Catalyst is a keeper and seems to slot comfortably between the Neutron and Plasma which are both now lost to the minute tears in the fabric of the universe that eat tree kicks. I know it's not necessarily the plastic itself, but I'm increasingly of the opinion that the different plastics do mold up differently under heat and pressure. Most noticeable in the dome, which does have a direct impact on the aerodynamic behavior.

Decent tee shot on 12. Bob asked "why don't you throw forehand here?" As it turns out, it's because I'm an idiot. Bullseye twice (thereby eliminating luck as a contributing factor) with a pair of Octanes.

Holes 8 and 9 have been updated by the weather. The root system had the front of 9 Gold's teepad about 5 feet up in the air and the balance of the tree laid squarely across 8's fairway to a height of maybe 12 or 15 feet. Glad that's the worst of the damage.

Need to work in the Eclipse Tempo, but am feeling pretty good about the bag as a whole. Could almost dispense with the Wave, but haven't quite gotten there yet.

Well I got some throws in on the proton soft 174 rhythm, it throws close enough to a 172 neutron that I'm not having any issues over the 2g's. That dome is insane. I will also echo that it doesn't seem quite as long but I also know that my best rhythm have broken into a little extra turn and less fade.

It seems like it has started off really straight with less HSS turn but also less HSS stability if thats possible. Kinds reminds me of those jiffy pop top crystal Comets.. (I had one it was wonderful and weird, threw different to the other 15+ Comets i own.) It has less of a panning fade and more "later dump" as well. Just very straight even when it should be pulling out. Tried a few kinda limp touch of hyzer shots on my steep downhill and I have yet to get it right haha. Rather than panning out and hooking in short it just kind of rides the angle slowly, refuses to drop and overshoots by about 70' and smacks the public roadway.

In other news, found the last eclipse tempo in western Canada and decided I should buy it haha. Should be here in about 10 days haha.

My longest rhythm is actually my big beefcake thrower that doesn't like to turn like they supposed to, it just wants to hold dead nuts straight on full power.

Mine is a flat 165 SE that started beefy (and short) and was FH only that kinda broke into a micro S flight.

Yes, my favorite for distance, wind play, and consistency is my Neutron SE 167g flat just golden right out of the box. Performs best in wind 20 mph plus, so its part of my wind bag for a more open course. When the stock was released 6 months later, not even close to the same performance. I would like to find a back up for the SE, their not out there.

Proton I found my release point for a nice turn on the practice field, some nice distance. I just need to see it on the course. Maybe tomorrow.

Don't despair buddy, just keep an eye out. My stock neutrons aren't as domey as the circuits (or as low a PLH) but the do vary from small dome to flat. I have a few flat and mildly beefy stock backups for my SE, and a couple turny domey ones. I also have an SE that's domey but the other two are flat.

Yeah, but lets really really look at this.

"micro s flight" from giving it not enough spin.

When its.... a -2/-3 turn disc.

I have issues with that.

I'm cool with a little variance, I can accept that. but like completely different disc stuff is just..

And the part I don't understand with this stuff is MVP said in Destin's video that they are using a machine to check the PLH on a disc.
okay.
So why are all the orbitals nowhere close to -4 on their PLH/Flight? And why do we get discs like the rhythm here that are just insanely not close to where they should be.
Despite most other molds being pretty good in the acceptable flight differences department.

(yes, the new orbitals are not better. stable waves)

When the stock was released 6 months later, not even close to the same performance. I would like to find a back up for the SE, their not out there.

Funny enough, some of those "stock runs" were in the circuit stuff.

Almost everyone's circuit disc was flippy time fun disc. I had a few people get discs that wouldn't flip whatsoever. Just drastically different flights.

I think the circuit run was where the disc should have been and stayed. I see more people who throw the rhythm want that really good flippy flight and turnover flight it gives.

Because if you dont have the control to hold some of the super flippy stuff to a full turn over and trust it, the flippy rhythms really help players with their turn over if they force it a bit and it gives them a good controlled turn over.

Best as I can figure MVPs flight numbers are set by people throwing 400'. I always attributed it to that, since I'm barely 300' on a good day. The fission is comparable to those circuit rhythms, I'd say a 174g fission throws like a 171g circuit neutron

Look what I found on the course this morning Cosmic Electron Soft Pilot. No identification on it, looked like it was just left there in the open. Grips like my Cosmic Electron Atom. Putts like any of my Envys, but more fade. Dropped a 40 footer second putt. Decent on C3 putts, but my Plasma Tangent putts better from C3 which I was using today. My friend threw it stable. Well beaten in.

What too do with it. Not interested in keeping it. I think I heard something about an Eclipse Tempo, perhaps for a trade in to knock off a few bucks.

ehhhhhh. That one is debateable there. hahaha.

Brad/Chad both good throwers though.
I always forget who's who. The tall one.

He throws really far. Got to throw with him at Hunts at the last gyropalooza.

Yeah i seen them on video... definitely 350'+

Why don't they use the robot that Simon had on his video to help set flight numbers?
Flight numbers are limited by 1 or .5 increments. Even using a robot would require controlling the environmental factors (wind, humidity, elevation).

Its hard for a company to say every plastic blend from now on will be approximately the same flight either when millimeter differences in PLH from cooling can create different stability discs from the same molds.

I don't know if anyone would pay multiple times the current disc price to get the molding consistency for flight numbers to be close to accurate at a high rate.

MVP's deal for the longest time was consistency.
I never worried about disc to disc, plastic to plastic run to run for a long long time.

You did in axiom, but never in mvp.

Now with the new molds, they dont even fly close to the flight numbers in some molds, like they are not testing the discs whatsoever.

I did the deed, traded that warped Pilot for the Eclipse Tempo 175g. Had my Proton Tempo with me, threw about six throws each. More distance Proton, more fade Eclipse. I have a Proton back up.

That Proton Rythmn 172g can putt. 50 foot drop, and a few close misses. I've been playing 2 disc rounds on a 9 hole course with gaps off the tee. Field work in calm wind was getting stale. I see a two Tempo round coming up soon.

The Rhythm is likely going to chase away a Halo Leopard. Used both off the tee. Three tree hits Leopard, 1 for Rhythm. When both clean Rhythm more distance. Would like to see them both in 15 mph Plus wind.

Since Monday I've come full circle finding a beaten to death, warped Electron Pilot, first time seeing one. Felt good enough, putt great C1, outside of that wide right, must be something to do with the bad shape it's in. Traded it in Wednesday for the Eclipse Tempo. Told myself if I ever saw a new Pilot, check it out.

To my surprise at a PIAS further from home, after course play further away. Some new Electron Firm Pilots 174g. Grip feels great, so I had to know. And here we go again putting competition for the Pixel, and Cosmic Electron Firm Atom. Atom hasn't been touched since May on the course I already know it can handle wind up to 25 mph, easing the Pixel into it. I like competition in the bag, keeps me focused.

Their are a few guys who work in the store, who play. Two wear Discmania Jerseys. I was surprise when he told me he has putted with Cosmic Electron Firm Pilots the past couple of years, and loves them. So I had to say it, I agree Discmania putters suck, he laughed. He also carries a Neutron Time lapse, Lizotte Hex, and a few others.

I also lost my second Fission Wave in a month into water. I have no more, not throwing them well, and I'm giving them a break. I'm throwing a Fission Photon, and my 9 speeds far better. Impulse blowing past the Wave. I still have a Neutron Wave which has been out of the bag for two months throwing the Neutron Impulse, Insanity, and Inertia far better.

I throw with my brother most of the time, and his putting putter is the Electron Pilot - all 174g. He has like, 12 of 'em and cycles them in and out of the bag constantly - most of them firm with some mediums sprinkled in.
