[MVP] MVP Disc Sports (Part VI)

None of you find people felt like telling me that MVP got it exactly right the first time with the Ion? Kinda golden.

The original 1st and 2nd run ions are not the same.

Gyro technology came with the 3rd run ion. The first 2 runs were not weighted. Just the rubber overmold.

They do fly and putt insanely well though.

MVP trademark the name Balance for disc this past December. Here's some other disc names Bokeh, Mirror, Lens, and Shutter. The Gravity back in April if I remember correctly over stable 14 speed.

As someone who works in the medical X-ray field I'm disappointed we never got the cathode which should have been a super over stable putter. We have the ion, photon, anode among X-ray themed names.

The photography based names aren't too shabby though.

Gross.. haha. I support recycling, I do not support black discs. They do off runs on the lab from time to time, like the early eclipse L2 virus, L2 proton uplink, fission Atoms etc..
My thoughts almost exactly. Strong dislike for black or dark/muddy colored discs. They can be hard enough to find as it is… no need to make it mission impossible.

Anyone else discover the little orange pumpkin Easter egg under a blacklight? Usually they are white... see post#2201 haha and you need to tilt it a bit. I checked my wave and nothing fun there...

Fairly happy with this as a glow/premium version... they did a good job at transitioning from electron. Obviously a little more stable but not grossly so. I feel like they did pretty good with the wave this time around too.
I'll have to check out some in the shop and see if any I have have this. I don't think any of the space race ones did.
So guys. Is the Detour the best midrange?

Just got done with a pure Detour session on a beautiful windy day. Got to throw every conceivable wind orientation and they just do what you think they should do. So sick.
It may not be the best mid, but it may be the best at what it does. My first detour was bought when we were out visiting family in SLC and I first used it at 9000 feet of elevation at Solitude. It was not the disc I thought it was. Then we used it at The Fort(4800ish feet) and I got yet another disc which brings me to using it here in the 500 foot elevation range. Yet another disc of course and where I have the most experience with it. It was a GREAT disc at 4800 ish but now as it's broken in a bit here near sea level I've loved to use it for what it is and that is a mid power thrown disc that will float right RHBH. Too much and she will quickly turn and burn (usually cut rolls) and not enough you will get the standard hyzer out. I used it occasionally for a standstill forehand on a sizable hyzer that will flip up and drift left. When it goes wrong it's an adventure.

One of shops I frequent a bit here in the greater Midwest just got a restock of MVP with quite a few plasma goodies. I showed great restraint leaving with only the Tesla and Motion joining the servo I already had…View attachment 354115
All three awesome in heavily wooded courses, and with standstills. My favorite Plasma an Insanity, and have a Crave my third MVP pick up 2 1/2 years ago.

Well I decided to complete the tour of terror, 176 detour was still available. Might as well throw the whole set haha. Kinda curious if the eclipse plastic still translates as os (or more S) with the detour.

Reasonably happy with the eclipse pixel as a light FH disc. Still trying to bust it in straighter.. I'll get back to you in March. Haha but I've been getting good shots downhill where I want the stability. Not shooting tunnels yet.

Gyropalooza dripped today. Thoughts? I always give it a go as it's good to try different molds and the collectors stamps are always on point; makes for a special disc, and I usually end up bagging them.

Dripped is right haha. I don't see anything I'd headhunt out of that, maybe a vanish and keep an eye out for some cheap L2s.

The golden ticket sounds fun!!! There's going to be some people buying multiple boxes to try their luck on that, downside is I don't see a huge auction potential for the 3 exclusive molds. They just aren't cool enough, maybe the balance for the stamp and fact it will never be made like that again... but I doubt many people will go crazy for a parachute or a vanish, the stamps could be better. Then a bunch of R2, best bet is some rare lab seconds.

The golden ticket thing at this point sounds like a money grab to get you to buy more boxes to off load more l2 discs.

Pass, might have been interested in the Balance but not if it flies like a Pyro. Never bought a mystery box, I have enough frisbees I should sell without buying another box of them.

Loving the fizzy Pyro after bagging it for a couple weeks. Grip is even improving.

I liked gyropalooza when it was a new mold or something like that. The 2021 was cool--that was the uplink, proto eclipse inertia, and then a bunch of L2. I like that, you get something you want (for me the uplink), a cool prototype, and then a lot of L2 to try stuff you maybe wouldn't have before and it averages out to around 10 bucks a disc. The inclusion of R2 is a bit meh for me. Knowing I am going to get a parachute and have a >75% chance of getting a glitch/pitch is more meh. And then the vanish is a mold I just don't vibe with and the balance is just an axiom pyro...I really was wanting to buy a gyro box but this didn't do it for me.

Yeah I bought two of those uplink boxes it satisfied the urge haha, got almost exactly the same thing in both boxes (different colours). I was still pretty happy with them. There was also some amazing hidden gem/ proto discs you might have found. I was also extra excited since that was the first time I could get myself one in Canada.

My excitement has diminished yearly since haha

Pulled this off of the MVP Facebook page.

I always look forward to the palooza. I have an old vanish that is a bit too flippy now. It will be interesting in eclipse.
I'll be interested to see how the balance flies compared with the Pyro. If it is more overstable and a little less glide, it could find it's way into my bag.
As for the R2 molds, I have two of them from last year's box (crave and enve) and those are two of my favorite all time mvp discs despite being black (which is a stupid colour imo), so I don't write off r2 based pm being recycled or black.
Last year I got an octane and a time lapse both of which are decent discs. I unfortunately lost my detour so hoping I get a factory second of that..

Yes sir. That motion in a headwind is a thing of beauty and the Tesla even though its max weight it not as over stable as the 158 proton I have. I have a matching white core Wave and Pyro on hold I should be able to pick up tomorrow along with the white'ish silver crave I already have. It's fun to hunt them down in all the same core color.

We only did thr pyro and pixel. I couldn't convince myself yet to pick up the other two. The pyro is everything I thought it would be and I think it will be a better tempo as it breaks in. Love it!

As for the gyropaloza… can't do it. I have a hard enough time buying a disc I can see in pictures on line much less taking a gamble on discs, weights, color combos beyond my control.

You can watch 2023 here.

I love doing these unboxing video's, but.. it's just so hard to buy these and make 0 money on the video.
