[MVP] MVP Disc Sports (Part VI)

I haven't been super consistent with disc golf, but just played 7 courses down in Phoenix for a trip. I had a blast, but noticed I'm missing an understable midrange. What's new with MVP/Axiom over the last 4-5 years that people are liking for that slot?
Depends how understable. My bread and butter are the uplinks. I find them consistent for turnovers, straight (with a hyzer release) and my 180g soft is a long downhill distance bomber. my 174 neutrons are substantially flippier but not Paradox flippy. I can do a cool touch of hyzer shot with the neutron that flies 75% of its flight straight before turning anhyzer at the end. It's a weirdly unique throw to have in the bag.

At night the mothman eclipse detour is a reasonable replacement for my 180g uplink, a little more stable than the neutron detour and it has a great straight flight on a flat release while still being decent for a turnover. A neutron detour is a good disc if you are a hyzer flipper, it flips up and rides with less chance of rolling over than an uplink. I found the neutron detour annoying on the steep downhill I never knew when it would turn too much or fade out, I can bomb mothman out flat and it holds the line without breaking over.

DETOUR: flips up a little, fades a little 5/5/-2/1 UPLINK: magic. controllable understability 5/5/-3/0.5 PARADOX: crazy understable. utility shots that once flipped up are not coming back 5/4/-4/0

For my choices in understable mids.
I throw the Lobster and Paradox.

The uplink is a bit flippier than I wanna deal with when throwing that sorta shot stuff, and the paradox is for when I really need to do weird stuff.

I like the uplink, but for my style it's to flippy. The lobster gives me a little more stability as I push the midrange around more.
The detour is one of those discs I struggle to recommend as a "flippy midrange"
For big arm folk it might be, for us mortals its a good straight with a bit of turn midrange. Basically like for us to have a really good beat up hex.

I've yet to see mine or anyone's just get thrown flat and give you a soft gradual turnover. It always wants to fade back.

If you are a noodle arm, the uplink will work great as an understable mid for that turn over shot.

Motion>Fireball.

The motion overall is a better disc than the fireball with more consistency in runs as well as more use on the course.

The fireball is a turd. I have no idea why the pro's throw it at all and like it over the motion other than "pretty colors."

The motion is a better roller, better thrower, better flex shot thrower, better skip disc. It's better at everything.

The fireball is an okay overstable turd that has low glide and tends to be really inconsistent in its runs.

I will say the newer motions are far less overstable than the OG's though.
In very limited testing with these two the Fireball has been longer, will have to report back as I get more familiar

I could absolutely believe that. From memory, the fireball has a little more jump out of the hand, but crash is harder. I'm betting that would be very complementary toyour power and ability to sustain the high-speed part of the flight. The motion is a little more smooth and steady. Grabbing a solo at Oregon this morning. Standard play for nine gold is to hit early anywhere (and I've tried just about every available), motion scramble, easy par.

Looking great! I haven't played out there yet this year, last was there New Year's Eve I think.

The Streamline Boost was approved today. If I remember correctly somewhere between a Tesla and Trail.

Thank you (and to the comment above). I'm gonna check out that Paradox, that sounds insane lol. I've been looking for a disc like that for a while.

Well I'm very late, but just found out yesterday that MVP stopped making the Anode in Eclipse and Plasma. RIP. Absolutely devastated. I dislike Neutron and Electron for my Anode... Was anyone else forced to switch putters? I've been putting with the Anode since it released, it's going to feel weird switching putters.

Lengthy ITB from Eagle, doesn't look like he's minimizing molds currently. New Streamline Boost looks interesting if it's Trail-like but flatter, Trail just hasn't clicked for me. Kinda tuned out on the high speed stuff.

The eclipse isn't "hard" to get, but its not impossible. They sell often on the BST page.
The plasma ones are pretty easy to get though.

First visit to Heritage Pines east of Atlanta and taking a moment at the turn. Really nice course, slightly more civilized than Little Mulberry but very similar. Tee shot on eight isn't going to be eclipsed, so sharing here. Purple marker on the left indicates 270 from the tee. Vanish on a gentle turn all the way to even with the marker. Basket downslope in the right hand position. Once a round, your arm accomplishes with your mind envisions. This is that for today. I need to be between work more often.IMG_2026.jpeg

Now that the Trail has been out for a while, has anyone noticed anything consistent in how to pick which ones are going to be flippy vs stable? I've been relying on really flat topped Constructs for that slot, but with how rarely they're run, and how most of them are domey (and thus pretty flippy), finding a neutral or more overstable one can be...difficult. I'd love to be able to pick a regular production disc, and know I'm not going to get one I'm just going to sell to PIAS...

The actual variation of them being what I'd say switches between a -1/2 and a 0/2 flight is something you have to almost have a perfect eye for.

I can see the difference in my buddies flippy vs not as flippy one, but the difference between his not as flippy vs my not much flippy at all is something I can't see. So when I picked mine out, i ended up with one that is a bit more beef.

However, that' even better though, cause its going to beat into a proper trail flight and hold it for a long long long time. After probably 20/30 throws it wanted to move when thrown, just still not as much as what I "feel" it should move. But that just means it needs more time baking in the oven.

Actual flight numbers on them are -1/1.
And. I don't agree on any I've seen. Even the good ones that i'd put in the more -1.5 flip still have a strong 2 fade. Predictable fade. The only time those ones seem to argue about coming back is if you push it over and throw it poorly.

So, flights you can expect so far watching everyone throw theirs are 0/2 to -1.5/2.
Glide is definitely a 5.
And I'd put it with the rest of the 20mm class discs in MVP's line up. I don't think it really "feels" faster than a tesla or anything like that.
But what the disc actually feels like flight wise is what the Wrath was supposed to be the whole time. A seasoned tesla.

And even these more beef trails still feel like a seasoned tesla.

The one I bought felt more like a -3/1. I ended up giving it to a teammate, because I already love the Mantra for that slot. My partner's is more like 0/2. I'd love one that was closer to -1/2, but I guess I'll just have to beat one in...

Observations from the day: have been a little frustrated with the vanish and virus not wanting to hold straight. But they are supremely effective when you need something to move right slowly. The Pyro was on point today as well. Not necessarily overstable, but sufficiently stable for killer long forehand approaches. It won't fight out, but it's not going to burn over either. Finally, content verging on delighted with the atom/ion combo for long bids and putting respectively. Feels like the short to mid game is really starting to lock in.

What looks like available on OTB only is the prototype Balance V2 red stamp, V3 black stamp. Their pre-release for ordering, release date the 12th. But, $30, I paid for my V1 from DFX when they opened gyropalooza boxes at $19.

My V1 on a full throw understable fading back. Power back and standstills start seeing some overstable.

I got to throw both V2 and V3 proto Balances over the weekend at an event some DFX discs guys were at.

I think the black stamp V3 was slightly more stable. Not too much difference though and they did fly pretty far with a good 5/4.5/-0.5/2.5 type flight. Seemed pretty similar profile to a flat Nocturnal Mint Taco I picked up last year, but maybe a slight bit more glide.

-3/1?
That's almost instant roller range when thrown flat on a backhand.

The Virus and Vanish are supposed to be turnover flippy discs for big turn overs or hyzer flips. Rollers as well. Virus is a good roller disc to learn on.

So, I'd fathom a guess that you're a bit newer to disc golf based on your statements of flight for those discs.
Which if they starting to give you that slow turn over vs going straight, it just means your ability to put some speed on the disc is increasing.
