Love the attention to safety! Looks like a beautiful course.
Thank you! It's all about the details, we did our best. FYI! This course was vandalized over the summer and felt almost "abandoned."
It's one of the most popular disc golf courses in Estonia, located just within the city limits of Tallinn, the capital. This means A LOT of players visit the course. Stats show that over 20,000 people keep score annually, with roughly the same number visiting just for leisure and not keeping score.
A couple of months ago, I received an offer to take on the responsibility of maintaining this course. So, my Disc Golf Fanatics club and I decided to accept the challenge. In return, we get to run weekly events and other activities if we like.
The most intense part of this project was probably the first week, when I spent around 50 hours mowing over seven days. In short, it was BRUTAL! The weather was pleasantly warm for autumn meaning I was drenched in sweat. I drank gallons of water each day to stay hydrated and took vitamins and minerals to avoid cramps.
I remember vividly that every time I knelt down to refuel the heavy-duty brush cutter, I had cramps in my back and legs. And the pain in my trapezius muscles from carrying the machine for eight hours a day was something else! By the end of each day, I was completely exhausted and could barely lift my hand above my head without serious pain, let alone play disc golf. But I did manage to squeeze in a round or two just to try out the freshly cut fairways and lines.
Anyway, I cleared out the overgrown foliage, making both the fairways and the areas off the fairways much, much cleaner. Now, if you get a tree kick, you won't face heavy bushwhacking, there's a good 20-30 feet of cleared pine forest just off the fairways before hitting the "rough".
And that was just one task…
Now, a month has passed, and the course looks better than ever. We'll continue improving it!
