Testing new maps

This is what I get when I hit save.
typed in Pueblo CO, selected from drop down
Ended in Denver Co pulled from the drop down menu

Then selected two courses using the "add" function.
I just tried to name this one Test, when I hit save, this is what I get on my screen.

okay, this is a weird error, I can't remember if it was there previously.

All the courses are color coded, blue is less than 9, green is 9. etc.

So, in the nearby preview window. Apparently that either doesn't follow that same thing, or its just assigning randomly.

John C Poole is a 9 hole.

We can see from the main map viewer its showing the colors correct.

But in the course side preview window its showing them different.

If this was something from before, I don't remember, but if its something new now, I honestly have no idea how you'd even fix this.

I can help with this, the Nearby Courses map does randomly assign colored baskets to the nearest courses. I believe it has always been like that.

I think the idea was that it easier to identify each course that way, since some could be close together, so the different colors ID them.

Since we are on the Maps, one thing I would like to see on the Course search by Map is a toggle to switch between the current default of "Colors by # of Holes" and a possible new one, "Colors by Review Rating".

If we had that, then you could switch to Colors by Review Rating and see the lowest rated as Blue then Green, Yellow, Orange and Red as the Highest Rated courses. That way it would be very obvious which courses are the lowest and highest rated, at a glance.

I've asked timg for this, but thought I would bring it up with Greens on board now.

I admit that still catches me sometimes. But it has always been that way, the little map shows the next 5 closest holes in different colors.

Oh, BTW, The red star is a future championship disc golf course. Got 2 baskets and always looking for more. 353049-9598c4409fbc5b78c07bc4dc3e74b0c0.png

Great suggestions. Along with that we need a course drive to get a missing courses posted as well

We've been making some decent progress on this lately, but yeah, lots of missing ones on here still.

As much as I'd like to just copy/paste stuff from that site with the shitty reviews, my OCD won't let me add a course I haven't played and took pictures of.
I am the same way, I will not add a course I am not familiar with. If I know for a fact it is there, I will add it.

Sometimes I'll add a course that I know I'm going to play, and then add pics later.

Some of these responses are awfully disappointing. I get that we like to make fun of Udisc for their shitty reviews, myself included. It's true.

The thing that Udisc has that we don't at the moment is a much more robust user base. A user base that writes (shitty) reviews, updates course conditions, takes pictures and most importantly ADDS courses to the directory. It only takes a minute or two to sift through the bullshit as to whether something is a legit course or not over there. It's just not that hard to do. I've heard these same lame excuses in other threads as to why you won't add a course unless you personally played it. Usually from folks who have no intention of adding any courses here anyway. Much less take pics or even write a damn review of any of the local courses they've played hundreds of times and has outdated photos and the most recent review being from 7 years ago. But they'll debate about whether a hot dog is a sandwich or not.

This is by no means an attack on Mono, Vogues or PizzaGod. Mono and PG made excellent points about adding adding a course you're going to be playing soon but haven't quite yet. I ALWAYS do this if I'm planning on adding photos for it. I can usually get the pics uploaded on the drive home so that I only have to write a review for said course later. Not add course, add photos and write a review/update course info. OTOH I added the following courses this year prior to playing them.

Hay Creek DGC
Spring Brook Resort - Winter 9
Sky Lodge Camp DGC
Waushara Community Church DGC
Wedges Creek
Boylan Acres - Extreme
Boylan Acres - Constitution Course
Foxlands
Little Flock Baptist Church DGC
Tower Hill DGC
The Spillway DGC
Richland Middle School
Starved Rock DGC
Wildcat 9
Lakeview Campground
Stallion Acres
Dancing Yarrow
Osceola School 4 Pack
Cameron High School DGC
Rush City DGC
Rangers DGC
Mercy Hill Church DGC
Mayo High School
Triton High School DGC
Eagle Valley DGC
Tomah DGC
Woodwind Park
Lost Lake DGC
Kingvale II

All stolen off of Udisc. All of which were actual courses. All of which I added photos and reviews for. This calender year. Not trying to boast but every one of these were "discovered" from Udisc and every one was added before playing except a handful. Four maybe.

And if it wasn't for @elmexdela I'd have added more but MN's his turf for the most part. :p

To clarify, I am not asking or desiring to "steal" content such as photos, low-grade reviews, etc.

We need a contest to see if we can get the userbase here. I'm excited to add some courses to the database. This helps me focus on the essential core features of the site, making it easy to happen, as well as getting folks active in the site again, that's important stuff.

Going to try to come up with some prize ideas.

Huge shout out to Wolfhaley here crushing it.

I forgot who the other person doing it was as well.

There is an answer to this, and greens is trying to fix it and make it better.

But back before u-disc. The App was pretty much only good for keeping your score or marking that you played a course.

We have so much more access now with the newer DGCR apps and updates, but DGCR got passed by because of the "phone generation" of people who like to app everything, and without the updates to match, we got left behind over here.

My old school mentality prefers what we have going and the community we have here as well. That's something udisc doesn't have. Udisc has cult followers that don't really much care for what we do over here.

My biggest issue when I was more "hip" on trying to improve stuff was the inability to easily update course things on DGCR cause the app didn't let you write reviews at the time. I had to go home and do it and back then the site was really really clunky on the browser. So, by the time i got home, i had forgotten everything.
The guys/gals who put in tons of reviews back then just were champions.

And with DGCR being the older brother in this, we have some awesome historical records of old courses that u-disc can never match.
I had to use it the other day to show a newer golfer how a hole used to look, he was blown away. That info wasnt' there on udisc.

Ehh whatever, I'm staying over here, even though I have to manage a course on u-disc now. Which.. that.. is hilarious. I need to have my changes "approved" for "my" course?
Go f yourself. hahaha

Yeah, I don't think the goal is to steal content, but just to make sure its listed here.
A lot of newer courses are not put on DGCR because the people doing it might not even know its here.

So promoting the content and courses on facebook and reddit more will help people see the DGCR community more.

I personally always use DGCR links to courses, never u-disc.

. . . I can usually get the pics uploaded on the drive home so that I only have to write a review for said course later.

I wish I could upload pics from the road. Instead, I have to wait until I get home and re-size the pics on my desktop before uploading. Otherwise the pics get rejected as too big.

I posted about this on the Fall 2024 Features thread (post #30), but apparently most folks don't have this problem. Post #30 on that thread.

OTOH I added the following courses this year prior to playing them.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated, good sir. Seriously, thanks!

Edit: FWIW, I added 11 courses this year and 8 in 2023. More than I thought, actually. :)

i too steal all the info from udisc

tbh i dont even use the maps or search feature on here anymoar since udisc has the newest courses and also has "exclude courses played" feature for free (i havent read anything else in the thread as it doesnt apply to me cuz i dont use the maps on here)

i am sitting on about 10 new courses for mn that i havent played yet but am waiting to see if they are "legit" enough to put on here cuz they are campground or resort crappy 9ers in the backwoods or practice ish areas around a school however if i get a sense that its a "real" course i will add it on here as its pretty obvious

udisc also has the most current updated course conditions or comments will say to stay away (like kessler or blue valley)

i stay on dgcr for the community and banter

Let me clarify. I don't "seek" the other app looking to add courses. BUT if I know of a course that has opened and in the ground, I will add it.

I will also admit that I use the other app when on the road. Most of the time I plan my trips on DGCR from my desk top, but when out in the field, I use the other app to find courses. There has been a few times I have found courses listed here an NOT on the other app. I have tried to add new courses to the other app but stopped trying due to some confusing. Besides, I Much prefer to upload photo's and update courses as I play them.

And yes, I have a back log of over 30 courses to add photo's too. I added a new course last night and I know I have at least one more to add.

I also "extinctic" 2 courses that had been pulled.

And @greens the main reason I still use the other app when in the field is for the mapping function. DGCR has better reviews, a more accurate rating due to people taking time to write reviews. MUCH better keeping track of courses played. It's just that mapping function is SO valuable when playing a course you have zero clue how it is laid out.

But I will say this, there have been times I have come across courses that no one has mapped. I actually found a map here, or used the media pictures to figure the course out. it's rare, but has happened.
