The Inevitable 2025 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

The sockibomb branding was a little cringey if not just kinda dumb/juvenile. Probably helped sell some discs, though
I agree, I've never personally liked it.

I also get feel cringe about "Gyronaunts" and all these other stupid MVP terms people come up with. GyroJerm.

I have some weird anti marketing thing ticked in my brain though where that sorta stuff triggers me. So .. I generally struggle to understand peoples obsession with some phrases and stuff and how they pretend to the lifestyle.

As such I will give an example here.

"Salt life"
People wanna be onboard.
You Gyronaughts, gotta root for Gyro Jerm.

Are ya'll like 12 year olds inside?
This is how you market to kids...

So yeah, that's how I see that stuff.
But ya'll know I'm fucking weird already anyways.

TBH, it's not impossible to think Discraft might decide their pros don't play a DGPT event that Innova (or similar) sponsors. Maybe they sponsor an A-tier nearby, who knows?
Not sure I get what you're saying. So Discraft might not let players play, say, USDGC because Innova sponsors it?

I get the impression that Ricky doesn't drink, and also have to wonder if he even knew what a saki bomb was when he agreed to that.

Las Vegas Challenge maybe? Innova is a big sponsor of that. Not sure if it's still a DGPT event tho.

No no.

The rulings with PDGA/DGPT thing where you can't play an A-Tier as a tourcard holder some weekend without fines or whatever it is.
I'm not sure if they walked that back. But since discraft holds a large section of the main tour players now, they can essentially boycot the DGPT and this rule by just hosting an A-Tier with their players and it *will* be effective because of all the players on their team.

Curious to see what mids he bags or if Discraft will design one to his specs. If he goes another Buzzz variation I'd be sad, wouldn't hate to see the Wasp back in production or maybe fix the mold for the Drone since the last few runs totally sucked.

It would be fun to see Ricky go savage mode like Ezra and throw Maltas

For putting, I don't think Discraft has a putter quite like the Dagger or Whale. Ricky has big hands so he's been using larger putters. Discraft may have Ricky help design a new mold for him for this slot.

For approach disc, it wouldn't surprise me if Ricky picked the Ringer GT instead of the Zone. Not that he wouldn't bag both, but I think the Ringer GT is just a touch closer to the Pig and Socki Slammer in terms of design than the Zone.

Do you think he would throw any McBeth molds? He's a super-competitive guy but he also wants to throw what will win events.

So my thinking is: if he is willing to throw 1 McBeth mold, he'd throw any of them. The Luna is a great putting putter, and the Malta and Anax are all up Ricky's alley in terms of stability. I don't know how the Zeus has been taken by the team - I mostly see them throwing Forces and Nukes, but that's an option if Ricky is open to it.

I've seen the Zeus thrown by Missy and Paige, but not much by the MPO team for some reason. Although, I don't try to understand why people choose one disc or another anymore. That, and why some discs are successful or not (the Malta seems like a solid, OS mid, but a bomb). Somehow, it feels completely irrational

The golden stabilities these pros tend to rely on are basically overstable to very overstable and maybe some of these discs just don't beat into the stability they want. But it may also come down to what discs are being sent to the pros for their allotments. The Zeus might not be stable enough on average (despite it's flight numbers, similar to the Luna) for use for a lot of pros.

Edit: I mention the Luna here. It's another example of a good disc, but most pros are driving and approaching with something more stable. It might be the same story for the Zeus. The Force and Nuke may just be what more Discraft pros are looking for. Also the discs in McBeth line I don't think can be a tour series option for any players other than Paul, and players want to throw and promote their options more.

If anything, Discraft would probably offer a bounty to increase incentives at the other sponsor's events.

Going to be cool watching Ricky throwing Zones

Discraft did just release and approve those Zone GT (both Banger and Ringer variants) in 2024...

Could see Ricky go with the DGA Steady or Climo Champ for a putter.

I'd guess Force for distance driver.

Edit:
Could see him bag the Predator/Punisher/Machete/Flick and use the Nuke/Nuke OS as well. Wasp hasn't gotten much love recently and the new Swarm might be something he puts his signature on for a stock disc.

I think a particular company's discs helps a player about as much as which bag or cart they use. I buy mostly 2nds anymore of discs that simply feel good and come in lighter weights. I do note I'm a bit away from a 1040 rating though. If I wanted to support any one player, I'd be a Patreon, all that money goes to the player vs a buck or 3 from a disc sale.

I think the current model won't work long term. Bigger non-DG sponsors will be needed at some point so tourneys can start paying out more. Newbs quickly tire of throwing $30 tournament and signature discs into trees and rivers. I can do that just as well with a $4 used disc.

The rivalry is pretty cold right now and any bad blood has coagulated by now and stopped the bleeding. Additionally the McBeth molds are not that closely associated with McBeth as he himself doesn`t throw them that much. When I think of him, I think more of his Buzzz shots and Force drives than any of his own molds. And Ricky takes just about anything that is stable with him on the course with his huge carts and the caddy carrying an additional bag. He will probably bag an Athena as a Teebird replacement, not sure about the other ones. Noone in my area throws Discraft outside of a Zone or Buzzz so no idea what the molds are actually like.
