Where are you going in 2024?

I am driving from DFW to Branson MO then to Lexington KY in early November. Any "must play" courses near Branson or Louisville KY? I have played two courses in Louisville: Charlie Vettiner and Iroquois Park.

I really liked West Sixth Farm north of Frankfort. The beer garden bumped the rating by 0.5, but the course is solid 3.5-4.0 for me.

Lapping is my favorite of the Louisville courses, but I haven't had the chance to play Arrowhead.

I'm leaving Monday to start my 8 day road trip. Stopping at:

Tom Brown (Tallahassee)
The Admiral (Mobile area)
Inverness (Birmingham area)
Cedar Hill (Nashville)
Seven Springs (Smyrna, TN)
NGCT if they're open (Lula, GA)
somewhere in the Spartanburg/Greenville, Sc area
The Sarge (north of Savannah)

I have a separate thread called adlacro Excursion II for other comments as well.

If you end up taking 44 up towards St. Louis for the trip from Branson to Lexington, Hannah Hills is one I haven't played but has gotten nothing but exceptional reviews.

can confirm hanna is legit

i preferred dragon ridge tho (cuz i love that rough stuff)

Overnight trip to central VA yielded 4 new courses and 1 repeat. Chris Greene Lake Park was the highlight, and Sherando Junior was a fun little beginner niner.

Chris Greene Lake Park
Rochelle Ridge (repeat)
Hoover Ridge
Jenkins Mountain
Sherando Junior

Daytrip yesterday through Illinois gave me 3 more courses for the year:

Fox Prairie DGC
North Sandusky DGC
Jaxon Hays Memorial DGC

Fox Prairie is probably in my personal top-10; I'm guessing it's gotten additional attention since previous reviews.

Might get to add a couple more before the end of the year.

Chris Greene was one of the more disappointing courses on my trip, although much different trip.

I didn't really care for most of the front 9, especially holes 1,2,3 with the side slope and debris. Played to 9's basket by accident on hole 4 tee. Another couple playing was lost and missed holes 5,6,7 and I showed them on Udisc where those holes were. Basket 13 was smashed by the tree and then I got a little lost finding 14 which ended up being a hike. I'll be traveling back through the area next month, and have zero desire to go back there.

Snuck across the border into Minnesota over the weekend for 14 courses, 10 of which were new. Well actually 1 in Wisconsin, 13 in Minnesota. Probably the last road trip of the year unfortunately.

U-Disc shows:

Texas Twist: "Closed until further notice," as of Oct 4, 2024.

Texas Twist - Mount Vernon, TX
Trey Deuce: "Permanently closed."

I'm planning a trip out that way, so I called the ranch. The lady who answered said her husband died ☹️, and that the course is closed right now. Told her I'm very sorry for her loss and ended my call. Didn't want to bother her with the trivialities of my road trip and whether or not I can play there.

Does anyone here have more info?

I am so sorry to hear that. I know the Trey Deuce was for sale for $1M.

It's too bad so many of Johns early ground breaking courses are now closed or closing.

When in Texas. As far as private courses in North Texas.
Blackberry Pins was close to Texas Trey Ranch, well worth playing. Disc Golfer purchased that property JUST to put a course on it.

The Hideaway with 2 courses on site and a grill open on the weekends is a must. Just east of Dallas.

On the other side of DFW you got Dino Hills. Another MUST play with 2 courses and a putt putt course on site.

Just a brief summary (until reviews can be done, give me a week or two):

Tom Brown (Tallahassee): Excellent course with great variety, could hardly tell a hurricane passed through a month earlier)
IG Levy (Pascagoula): Fun to stretch out the legs, no destination course
The Admiral (Mobile area): A terrific Houck course that's worthy of your time
Inverness (Birmingham area): Too much elevation for this fat Floridian, but it's technical and challenging
Sharp Springs (Nashville area): Solid 21 hole layout with a good mix and a little challenge
The Sarge (north of Savannah): 20 holes with a ton of water holes, I wouldn't bring a newbie here, but an experienced player who doesn't mind chalking 1 or 2 to the water will like it

Here's what I've got (hopefully not too ambitious):

Sat Dec 21: Drive from Detroit and bed down somewhere between Nashville and Memphis. Probably play a course or two along the way.
Sun Dec 22: Memphis, TN - Bud Hill plus something in the area (maybe Meeman-Shelby State Park East).
Reports of Memphis area courses w/tornado damage may affect playability.
Mon Dec 23: Jonesboro, AR - Disc Side of Heaven Beatrice Park, Champ, Towering Oaks
Tue Dec 24: Persimmon Ridge, Tees in the Trees ; optional Burns Park Blue or Reservoir Park
Wed Dec 25: Homer, LA - Lake Claiborne Whitetail and Dogwood ; optional something en route to Mt Vernon (Lake Bisteneau?)
Thu Dec 26: Terrell, TX- The Hideaway Scorpion and Road Runner ; optional Harry Myers
Fri Dec 27: Gatesville, TX - Legacy Trails, drive to Dino Hills for Pterodactyl and Carnivore,
Sat Dec 28: Rattan, OK - Dinosaur Valley, something en route to Tulsa (McAlester?), Maybe Mohawk Park in Tulsa
Sun Dec 29: Pawhuska, OK - The Lodge Moccasin and Island ; optional Ni-U-Ko^-Ska DGC in WahZhaZhe Heritage Park
Mon Dec 30: Emporia, KS -: Jones Park Supreme, East and West ; drive to Springfield/Peoria area
Tue Dec 31: Peoria, IL - Northwood Park, then head back home

Optional = time and body permitting. I'm sure some of these courses are taxing you never know when something unexpected pops up.
This would add AR, TX and OK to my states played, and another 24 - 30 courses depending on how many of the optional courses I hit.

Anything I should know about? Tips, thoughts, recommendations?

not many reviews on here but i can confirm that the only course i played at hideaway was legit and worthy of a stop in

bud hill is goin to look like the budget version of flip and not in a positive way

jones/emporia is garbage

peoria rules make sure to carve out an hour to play megiddo after nwb

Ok, have you played a course in Mississippi? If not, when in Memphis, drove down on the south side and hit one of the courses just across the border. Probably Latimer Lakes, two courses on site. I played the "North" course not too long ago. It's an OK course.

but you can't go wrong with playing Shelby State park, the original 18 hole course is one of the oldest in the state. I first played in back in the 1980's. It has been incorporated into two 18 hole courses now.

Burns park is another long time Disc Golf course. But the OG course is long gone, it was moved across the street and has been redesigned many times. The Red course is gone, the Blue course is still in and decent. Unless something happened recently, Reservoir Park in Little Rock is gone. Got taken out by the same F5 tornado that took out most of Burns Park. I would recommend Eighteens @ the Pond Champion course. But Sherwood Forest, and The TRAXX are both good courses in the Little Rock area.

Lake Claiborne (Designed by Mike Brown) is a must for LA, Brian Harrison in Mellevue is decent, Lake Bistineau (also designed by Mike Brown) is one of his earlier courses. It's a little out of the way but Jimmie Davis SP is also a championship level course designed by Mike Brown. For historic sake, you could hit Clyde Fant in Shreveport, I do believe it is still lit up at night. I have played a midnight round there back in the 90's. It's one of the oldest courses in Louisiana. Longview's Lear Park is a tough course. Hinsley is your typical heavy wooded park style course from what I remember. I enjoyed the views at Lakeside in Jefferson. But you may run out of time. Tyler has several good courses with Dogwood at Linsey Park being the best. (you could spend a whole weekend playing courses around Tyler)

After The Hideaway's 2 courses, depends on how far you want to drive. Harry Myers is a good choice. I am partial to Town Lake, I love that course for some reason. Alex Clark is across 75 from there, there is a championship layout you can play on UDisc for that course. The baskets are in place. The Woods at Trinity is also a decent course with a mix of wide open bombers with water in play and heavy wooded holes.

Oklahoma, Dinosaur Valley is a good choice, you can even rent the cabin there if Sean's not using it. It's 27 holes now, the front side is a putter course, the next 9 are midrange and the back 9 I have not played yet. he has been trying to get me back out there to check it out.
I do recommend Lost Loksi near Atoka. In a reservation run park, this one is a hidden gem. Going towards Tulsa, Nichols Park is probably the best. 2 courses on site. In Tulsa, You can't go wrong with Black Hawk. But I am hearing good things about Postoak Lodge (contact them about availability of course)

Pawhuska - Play all 4 courses in that area. All are good. Of course you GOT to play the 2 Lodge courses. Avery also designed the Ni-U-Ko^-Ska course well worth playing. I also enjoyed my round out at Williams park's Timber Valley. You can even get in a quick round on the original 9 hole course next to it.

As far as Emporia, I hate to say this but after all these other courses, you are going to be disappointed. The Jones Park courses (I have not played the last redesign) Peter Pan and a few of the others in the area are all run of the mill park style courses. I will say this, if Eagle DGC in Olpe is in decent shape, it's the best course in the area. Another good one close to Emporia is Clover Cliff Ranch.

I have not made it over to Illinois area much yet. I will say you will be passing some good courses between Emporia and Springfield Illinois.

Thanks for the prompt feedback, guys!
I'm not locked into Emporia.
It just seemed pretty doable as I drive home from Pawhuska, OK.
I could go back on I-44 through Missouri and hit Branson Trails instead, and still swing up by Peoria.

I've already played a few of the higher rated courses in MS: The Rez (Ross Barnett), Hiller Park, and Chautauqua.

Of the three I played in Mississippi, Chautauqua was definitely my favorite. Wonderfully hilly and woodsy.
The Rez was good, but not great.
I thought Hiller was pretty meh.
