Where are you going in 2024?

can confirm from a mn traveler perspective

black hoof is legit af and so is cedar ridge

spoon creek owner never texted me back when i asked to play

kessler lives up to its reputation the parking lot had plenty of car dwellers and there was plenty of trash thrown about and i got some very unwelcomed glares

next up is blue valley on my list of sketchy courses

bad rock creek is whatever but on the too open side for me

i love the kc area they put tons of volunteer/work hours into maintaining the courses and it shows and they have great course density
Man, we played Chains Edge this fall on an excursion to Minn. What a terrific surprise. Simply a tasty tract of wooded glory. Only played one course....with a couple on property.

my vote is for the owner to make it into the best 54-60 hole course in the world

Chain's Edge is awesome and Chad is the man for sharing it with all of us.

One criticism would be that there are a lot of <300' slightly right finishing holes out there. I think I threw the stingray off the tee at least 40 times that day. (only partly due to lack of skills on my part)

Got to play the Branson Trail courses this morning for what should be my last new courses for the year; I've also thought this 6 courses ago so who knows.

I have played 172 courses and can confidently say the blue course destroyed my legs more than any other course I have played to date. Glad I get to recover for 24 hours before going to Silver Dollar City.

Yea, I played Branson Trails and was glad I had a cart reserved at Tree House afterwards. Of course we went and did an alpine roller coaster between the courses.

How was Branson Trails looking?

4 days ; 10 courses down.
8 days ; approx 16 courses to go.

Persimmon Ridge is a beautiful course in a spectacular setting, fun to play and drains exceptionally well. One of the best foul weather courses I've ever played. The rain calmed to a very light drizzle for just long long enough for me to finish a round.

So glad all the baskets had arrows pointing to the next tee. Really saved me time and made it possible for me to finish without getting soaked. 🙂

The rain was less cooperative at Burns Park.
Eating dinner now, and my disc golf towels are hung in front of the AC unit at the motel, drying out.

I hope the next few days at Lake Claiborne and The Hideaway aren't a complete washout. 🤞

Blue was maintained well. It felt like some of the bridges might need some attention in certain spots soon but it was good. The main obstacle was the sheer number of leaves on the ground but that's mainly just the time of year. Pink wasn't bad either but the tee pad for 4/9 is sagging.

Good to hear.

I'm not from Branson so I don't have the full story but I guess there used to be a pro shop on site, but the owners had to close it recently. I saw a post via google from the owners saying it wasn't sustaining itself and to please not let it affect reviews. I'm under the impression the owners live in the same building by the parking lot. I plan to look for more intel on everything before my review in the next month or two after the holidays when I catch up on my backlog.

For what its worth, it seems the website for the course is also expired as well.

That's part of the reason I'm hitting so many private courses this trip. You never know how sustainable they are, or how long we'll be able to play them.

Owning a course has never been a money maker. Upkeep/maintenance is a constant, neverending, task. You can't blame owners when they finally get to to the point where they can't afford to keep it going, get tired of all the work, or someone makes them an offer they can't refuse for the land.

So many courses have come and gone since I started playing.

Really makes you appreciate how long Flip City Bill's been doing it. Just for perspective: when Flip opened, Climo wasn't even a 1x.

Flip is in the single digits for courses installed in MI, IIRC

That is one reason I too try to play private courses when I can.

Seen too many pop up and close before I ever get to them. Shoot, I have played some that the owners let me play even though they were no longer maintaining them.

Mother nature cooperated pretty well yesterday and today. Was able to play both courses at Lake Claiborne, plus Clyde Fant. Thought about waiting until it got dark to play Clyde Fant (it's park has lights for night golf), but decided get it during the daylight to minimize night time driving in the rain.

Forecast for today was miserable, but hit The Hideaway crossing my fingers the rain would hold off until I could finish. Played all of Scorpion, then Roadrunner up to #7 before the skies opened up. 🌧️

Fortunately, 7's basket is very close to the clubhouse. 😁

Talked to Nick (the owner) while waiting out the rain, then finished a very sloppy Roadrunner course. Both courses at The Hideaway were really fun.

6 days and 15 courses down.
6 more days and about 15 more courses to go.

-----------

Just want to take a minute to say:
EVERY course owner I've ever met has been exceptionally friendly and wonderfully accommodating. Nick was every bit of that. Truly a nice and welcoming gentleman, as was Danny at Bud Hill.

If you are still in the DFW area this weekend, I am free and could catch a round with you.

If you are hitting private courses, there are still a few.

Dino Hills on the other side of Fort Worth
Blackberry Pines kind of on the way to Arkansas
DL Jackson up north of Denton, GREAT owners up there that live on the property.

If you want to get up into Oklahoma, Dinosaur Valley is worth a stop, its up in the Ozarks and in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for offering. The rest of my time in the area is pretty tight. Staying in Waco tonight.

Fri: 9am tee time at Legacy Trails (L&J Ranch). Then Dino Hills (will see how much of Dino Hills I can complete, cuz it's a 90 min drive from L&J).

Sat: Dino Valley, Lost Loksi, and maybe Blackhawk/Whitehawk in Tulsa

Sun: hopefully The Lodge at Taylor Ranch 🤞
(haven't heard back from them yet, but its Christmas time, and I may not be their biggest priority).

Mon: Branson Trails, Hannah Hills

Tue/Wed: Peoria/Morton IL area

Legacy Trails is cool, it's not too long but has some classic Houck Lines. That was my 700th Texas course and I was the first one to tee off officially on that course. John literally held everyone back till I got there and we started the opening ceremony.

Dino Hills is a blast and Brandon is a great guy. It's worth staying there all day for sure.

Dinosaur Valley has 27 holes but most of it is pitch and putt with the front 9 being a putter course, the 2nd 9 is midrange and I do believe the newer 9 is longer.

Lost Loksi is what I call a sleeper course. Well worth stopping at.

Instead of Blackhawk/Whitehawk, I recommend playing PostOak Lodge. Fantastic new P2P course on the way to the Lodge though Tulsa.

The 2 courses at the Lodge are good, I do believe they have a Kiosk you just pay at and play the course. I didn't talk to them when I played a while back. There are a 2 other courses well worth playing just down the street, the public Williams Park's Timber Valley and the Osage Nation Ni-U-Ko^-Ska DiscGolfPark designed by Avery.

Branson Trails is well worth the trip and I hear great things about Hannah Hills, I hope to play it in the next year.
