Hidden Hillside Treasure 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 10, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- 18 baskets
- Bathroom on location
- Free parking
- Subtle changes in elevation
- Wide open practice field on location
- Rarely windy
- Relatively empty course. In the three years I've been throwing here I've never seen more than 1 or 2 other groups of players on the course during a round.
- Free scorecard, loaner discs, and map are available at the front office.

Cons:

- Not much hole lengths variety
- Not easily accessible by mass transit
- Pay to play (520 ¥)
- Natural tees that are sometimes bald, uneven, and filled with roots
- Too RHBH friendly
- Weekend recreation groups sometimes use the same area as disc golfers
- Baskets and tee signs are rundown
- Errant drives could end up on a cabin roof or through a window

Other Thoughts:

Aikawa Fureaino Mura's course weaves through a summer camp type campus that's full of cabins. Like most Japanese courses, it's a beginner friendly pitch and putt type layout. Hole one starts behind the front office and flows uphill in a counter clockwise direction. All tees have a straight piece of metal marking the front of the natural pad, most have some sort of makeshift tee sign.

Recently, the course entry fee raised from 180¥ to 520¥. This is a bit disappointing considering there hasn't been any improvements in the overall course quality. It is still quite rundown and desperately in need of some TLC. Also, there are sometimes random camp activities held that share the same area as the course, which has priority over paying disc golfers. Season passes aren't available either (fart sound).

Rumor has it that the JPDGA used to hold sanctioned events here way back when, but in the 3 years I've been playing the course there hasn't been any events besides the monthly league. One local explained to me there was a falling out of some sort, which probably explains why the course is in such neglect. The monthly league that's is held here is on the second Saturday of most months. The organizers get crazy creative with their safari layouts. They start between 8-9 am. The locals are super nice, so don't be shy. Tell'em Large Marge sent ya!
