Pros:
Phenomenal! Stunningly beautiful course, great shot variety required (mix of par 3s, 4s, 5s). Tops of elevation change. Mix of open and tight holes. Clean fairways, well maintained, great flow.
Pro shop, gracious hosts, good facilities.
Virtually every hole on the course would be a "signature hole" somewhere else. There are no "filler holes" or B-list shots, and virtually no holes that are even similar to other holes. Every hole feels distinct and unique.
Land also has another amazing 18 hole course that's shorter/easier (but equally well designed) and a great 6 hole par-2 warm-up course.
This is a "pro" course for sure. You need probably 350' of fairway distance to be able to play this course as it was intended. But it's so beautiful and well designed, I think everyone should try it.
Cons:
The only con for me is that it's in Sweden, so I don't know if I'll ever get to play it again. But it's worth the effort to get there. If you're on the fence, go. If you only get to play one course in Sweden, go!
Other Thoughts:
I can't say enough about this course. I've played ~300 courses in the US and Sweden, disproportionately weighted towards top-tier (4+ star) courses, including half of the "top 20" courses on DGCourseReview. This course beats them all!
Ran into KJ Nybo on the course and played through with him for a while. He said it was his favorite course in Europe, with Konopiste the only other comparable course (and since Konopiste is only open for tourneys, most of us will never have a chance to see it); that recommendation should carry a lot of weight.
I have confidence that with time and more exposure, Ale Discgolfcenter will be regarded as the BEST disc golf destination in the world! Kudos to Jonas and his wife for designing and maintaining a love letter to the sport of disc golf!
