Disappointing and Unkempt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Located in a very nice local park
- Hole 1 is pretty fun and unique, especially in the Cincinnati area
- Hole 7 is definitely the coolest hole, being on top of an earthen dam
- Baskets are pretty good overall

Cons:

- Course is difficult, but not for any good reason. The tees, for example, are far too short for some holes. In addition, this course more or less forces you to play perfect on every shot. Even if you are slightly off, you will get punished VERY hard. While some people enjoy this, I feel as though it is too harsh a punishment for such a minor mistake.
- As I said before, the tee pads are honestly terrible. They are far too small to have any sort of run up. That, along with the areas around them being completely unkempt with weeds a few feet high, made me decide to throw from the open pathway next to the tees more times than not.
Speaking of unkempt, there seems to be no care to upkeep this course. Weeds are growing like crazy on both sides of the fairway, which measures only about 10 feet wide at most. In some places the fairway is only about 6 feet wide. This, along with the very tall weeds, seems to add artificial difficulty as I call it: difficulty not because of good, challenging design choices, but from negligence or simply cramming a course in where it probably shouldn't go.
- Beware of walkers. The path the course is on seems to be very heavily walked, and by the way people react to disc golfers, the course seems to be very rarely played. Often you will start to throw and someone will walk around one of the many blind corners and you will have to stop until they pass. This is more of just a frustration, but it happens a lot more than you'd expect.
- Don't be surprised if you lose a disc. There are lots of woods, lots of tall weeds, and lots of blind shots. You definitely need a spotter down the fairway so as to not lose a disc. Even with a spotter, due to the high grass, I almost lost a disc. In addition, there's an elevated drain with opening in the side. A disc could very easily fly in and be gone forever.
- While this is a lesser problem, be prepared for mosquitoes. Even going during the day in fall, I got bit up bad. So bad in fact that by hole 6 I was contemplating skipping the last few holes just so I could get away from the bugs.
- Another minor con, but it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It is quite the hike for an incredibly disappointing, subpar course.

Other Thoughts:

This course was very disappointing. I could forgive quite a few issues if everything was simply up-kept. Even if there was any semblance of effort put into the course, I could forgive it a bit, but unfortunately this seems to be an instance where the course was placed and forgotten. The weeds building up lead to a variety of problems, including a higher potential for losing discs and the loss of the ability to run up to a tee, which is desperately needed due to how short they are. As I mentioned, holes 1 and 7 are pretty neat, but this is not nearly enough to make up for the rest of the issue. This is one of the few courses where I actually had no fun playing disc golf. It honestly felt like more of a hassle than anything else. Unless you live within 10 or 15 minutes, you are in the area, or this is by far the closest disc golf course around you, it's honestly not worth going to. Maybe it's worth a one time visit, but expect to be disappointed. I went in with fairly low expectations and this course did not even live up to those.

Overall, this course is really hurt by the lack of effort put forward to upkeep it. There's no real reason to ever go out of your way to come here as there are much better courses pretty much anywhere else, especially in the Cincinnati area.
