Alumni Park is mostly green little park just below Pepperdine University and just above the Pacific Ocean. The views were glorious on a sunny, January day. I parked across the street in the Firestone lot and walked in, somehow missing the course map and sign. Take a picture of this course map, it's current. The on-line map with all the crossing water throws is obsolete.

The course starts by this course sign and basically plays around the second irrigation pond. There are no tee pads so you're mostly playing from basket to basket. No signs either. The baskets Discatchers are painted Pepperdine Green.

I wasn't exactly excited about any hole here. They ranged from OK to horrible (5 & 6). I never found anywhere to tee off for # 5 and # 6 played to a basket way up on the hill, across some really ugly bushy terrain.

I think the wind is a constant up here. However, it would be splendid for flying kites.

The # 9 basket has a terrible lean.

On-line map is mostly confusing.

No tee pads and no signage.

5 & 6 are just ugly holes.

There's probably a reason this course has such low ratings and looks to be underutilized, it just isn't a very inspired layout. But I think I saw Charlie Sheen's "Two and a Half Men's" Malibu Beach House down below. And I'm sure that was Demi Moore in the red Mercedes and that was definitely Julia Roberts walking her dogs. So see, come to Malibu and you are guaranteed to see some of Hollywood's elite.

How is it possible that they went to all the effort to put in 10 baskets, and then stopped right there.

This is so disappointing, this really could be a super fun course, on the beautiful grounds of a university that could introduce people to this wonderful sport. All it takes is two rocks per hole, paint the number on one rock and the basket.


There are better courses within a few minutes drive

- Baskets are in good shape.

- Wide open course on grass with a few water hazards, if you like grassy courses rather than wooded courses.

- Nice view of the ocean, though not spectacular enough to make driving out to this course from LA worth it just for the disc golf views if you're considering it.

- No tee pads or tee markers that we could find.

- Without a course map downloaded from the internet this would be unplayable, no way to figure out which hole is which, no markings on baskets themselves.

- Not much challenge to the course, other than what the water creates with a couple of baskets being close to the water.

- We parked at the university after going through the security gate, they seemed okay with letting us in to play even though we weren't part of the university, but not sure if they always let people in.

- We were driving from LA to San Fran and saw the poor reviews for the course but thought we would play it anyway for the views of the Malibu coast. Didn't end up being as spectacular as we hoped, in hindsight we would have used the time to play a better course somewhere else.

- Seems like the course isn't very well used and a lot of university kids just walking around the course. Didn't see any other disc golfers.

- Really wouldn't recommend going out of your way to play this, we didn't find this course very enjoyable to play, though I'm sure if you are a local you could find a way to make it interesting, as at least the baskets are in good shape.

There are 10 baskets carefully designed around the 2 man-made lakes with reclaimed water in Alumni Park at Pepperdine University.

The course map, available from this site, is a MUST! But with it you'll be led on a VERY challenging and enjoyable round with one of the more scenic vistas you'll find.

The first tee starts you at the top of the hill in the parking lot. But you can't park there because it's permit parking for the school. If you're looking up the hill it's to the left of the tower with a cross on it.

Google maps leads you to the Pepperdine entrance, which is on the north side of Alumni Park. The guard will give you a parking permit which allows you to park on the street heading up the hill. I don't recommend you enter this way. Alumni Park has a long stretch that runs down to the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). You are better off to go to the south side of the park and park on Malibu Canyon Road. You can see the 4th basket from the corner of PCH and Malibu Canyon Road. This way you're closer and not parking on a fairly steep hill without need of a parking permit. The guard house opens at 7am so if you're early this is better access.

The first basket is in the middle of 4 mature trees so it's a challenging shot throwing down into that cluster from way above it. It's also a little challenging to walk up the dirt path to get to the parking lot, but well worth it if you like elevation challenges, and who doesn't?

The second tee is on a bluff overlooking the first lake. Another elevation shot to a basket nestled among trees on the hillside on the other side of the lake. If you are a chicken then there's room on the right to avoid the lake. I took a chance, but even a good shot for me still ended in the water, even though it was really close and on the edge. I met another disc golfer there who told me that he came once when this lake was drained and he took out 45 discs. If you don't use the map it's hard to see this basket, but it is right where the map says it is.

The third tee sends you directly over the lake to a very visible basket on the south side. There's no shortcuts here for chickens. If you love your plastic don't use it on this one and just skip it.

There are some funky blue markers in the ground in a few places that say disc golf on them, but they don't correspond with the tees on the map much. I just ignored them and used the tee locations on the map. There are not really any identifiable markings for the tees, so again, YOU NEED THE MAP.

The fourth tee sends you down the hill over the open grass to the basket among some trees visible from PCH.

The fifth basket is near some ball golf greens back up the hill where the 2 lakes join. Oh by the way, the disc golf course is always preempted by the ball golfers. Right now the Pepperdine golf team is practicing for the NCCA playoffs, so you can't play 3, 4, 5, and 7 if they're there. The playoffs should be over by the end of May.

Bravery is required for #6 since it sends you over the second lake. The basket is visible at the bottom of the hill on the shore of the other side. Then #7 sends you back over the lake to the visible basket to the south, which you also can't play if the ball golf team is there.

The 8th basket has been moved so you should play to #9 on the map. The 10th basket is also moved from its location on the map, but is clearly visible down by the north end of the second lake. Play that as your #9.

Finding the new location of the 10th basket is a challenge, especially if you don't know where to look. It was moved to the north entrance on the map, where the dirt road leaves the pavement going up the hill.

There are no numbers on the baskets, but this presents no problem since 8 of the 10 baskets clearly match the map and the two that do not are at the end where safari works fine. I saw an old Facebook post which included numbers on the tops of the baskets, but those numbers are gone now.

Since you're on the Pepperdine campus Alumni Park, which their ball golf team uses, you may not be able to access all the baskets if the team is practicing, but I doubt this is too often since golf season is over at the end of May for students.

There are no tees visible and you'll get confused if you try to use the blue deals in the ground that say disc golf. But this is no problem if you ignore them and use the map.

What a beautiful place for disc golf! This well manicured park has a spectacular view of the Malibu coastline. It's not far from the Getty Villa if you want to include that in a trip here. Or there's a lot of surfers in the surrounding waters if that's what you like.

The lakes are very challenging. I left one of my discs in the water, but if that's the only cost to play here then I'm good for that. After all, most of the state parks charge a $10 entry fee.

As stated in review title, the view is great. Located on the big lawn at the foot of the Pepperdine University Campus, just up above Pacific Coast Highway, nearly every point on the course has a 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean. About the only other advantage this course has is the opportunity to create your own holes and play as many of them as you want. For that reason, it got the 1.5 rating I gave it, otherwise I was thoroughly disappointed.

Absolutely no wayfinding. I think the only people who know how to play this course in any kind of respectable order are the people who (poorly) designed it. there are no indications of where tee pads are supposed to be, so newcomers to the course have no idea where to start, let alone where to shoot, and once you've shot at a particular basket, there's no way to tell which one to go to next. The whole area is a manicured lawn, so there's no worn paths that might indicate the route that others have taken before you. Some baskets are about 30 feet apart (dangerous in my mind, if i'm putting at one basket, I don't want to be at risk of being struck by somebody's approach shot on another hole)

There is one basket placed about 20 feet (elevation gain) above a pond, maybe 50 feet (laterally) from the edge of the pond. Tucked under a tree, it makes a really intriguing target, but I had no idea where I was supposed tho take my tee shot, so I didn't even play it. I left after putting my Discraft Nuke in the other of the two ponds while trying to make my up own route through the course. That was the 3rd basket I threw at after about 45 minutes of walking around halfheartedly throwing at a couple of others while trying to figure out the intended course layout. (even more) Other thoughts.... I was surprised not to see anybody else taking advantage of this new course. It's on a freaking college campus, these should be hotbeds for players. Rather, I had to try to avoid a bunch of 18-20 year old co-eds laying around on the grassy hillside. Very frustrating. AWFUL COURSE.
