Nice surprise 2+ years drive by

Pros:

A nice but short course, and within walking distance of our camper. Not too difficult but offers the opportunity to stretch out the old throwing arm. Obstacles (trees) make the holes interesting. The hilly topography adds a nice touch as well.

Cons:

The grass has only been mowed 1-2 mower widths so you have a pretty narrow fairway. The uncut grass is easily 3' high and while I didn't lose any discs the potential is truly there. Because of that and since I was throwing alone I could not use tees #2 or #3 because your tee throw is completely blind as you have to throw over hills that are close to the tees. You'd have no idea where your disc ended up in the tall grass. So, I threw from the tops of both hills which greatly shortened my throws. There is a barb wire fence going across #7's fairway and it has no obvious function or use. The same fence is about 10-12' behind #5's basket. The fence was taken down to accommodate #6's tee but the barbed wire was piled up behind #5's basket and it is a wonder I didn't land in it.

Other Thoughts:

I tacked .5 onto the rating for the scenery. The course has great views of Lake Oahe and the sunsets were beautiful. This is a Corps of Engineers campground and it is obvious they don't know much about disc golf. The barbed wire fence makes no sense whatsoever. Surely you don't have to know much about disc golf to realize that fence has no business being on the course. If they could mow the fairways wider it 'd make a huge difference for the players. However, I bet it doesn't get played much and I'm not sure it is worth the detour - unless you're 'collecting' courses.
