It's Disc Golf for Elementary Kids

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 10, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- nice DISCatcher baskets in good shape
- school property is well maintained
- basket to tee flow is generally straightforward
- no major safety hazards
- length is good for young children and beginners
- parking lot back behind school

Cons:

- almost no elevation change
- natural tees
- tee sigs are just posts with numbers
- no other amenities
- virtually no obstacles whatsoever
- no particular intrigue for anyone besides the absolute beginner
- extremely short
- limited hours due to being on school property

Other Thoughts:

A full 1 star may almost be too generous here - there is absolutely nothing special about this course, BUT - is there really supposed to be? Courses like this are always hard to rate; this was installed for elementary students to experience disc golf. They aren't looking for terrain, long holes, tree obstacles - this isn't going to help anything with young beginners. As such, this course serves it's intended purpose just fine. That said, when compared against all the other courses on DGCR, it's got just about no appeal unless you live in Jefferson City and want to introduce your kid to the sport.

The school grounds are well maintained and the baskets are actually very nice. However, the tee "signs" are just posts and the natural tees are a bit rutted out. When I visited, holes 1 and 2 couldn't be played due to construction on school grounds, so we'll see if they return. That made this very short 6 hole course a very, very short 4 hole experience for me. I made the trip across the Missouri River to Jefferson City to play this course since it had no pictures and no reviews. Now that it's documented, there's no need for any other DGCR members to visit unless they really want to bag it. Nearby Holt's Summit DGC is a very nice 18 hole course that still plays relatively quickly if you're in this vicinity. But hey, if you want to see the Missouri State Capitol, this course is here.

Not sure there's much more to say here - it's a very flat, wide open, 6 hole (well, 4 for now) beginner's course with nothing unique about it. Skip this one unless you want to see your course count increase for only a 15-20 minute investment.
