Where is my Ace run? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Harke Park is a nice park with a walking path, playground, restrooms and a big open multi-use field. The course plays roughly the path of the walking path for the first seven holes, then loops around the playground to get you back basically where you started. In theory it could be an OKish 9'er one day; the park is very new and the trees that were planted are still young, so the site has some potential.

Cons:

The most obvious issue is that there are no marked tees or tee signs. You get to the park and see baskets and then...what? Once we played around to hole 6 we saw a red block in the ground and thought it might be the tee for hole 9; that was confirmed when we found a similar marker where the tee for hole 8 would be. We played the course again with a map and looked for more red markers; we found none.

The design follows the walking path too closely so the shots keep shooting over/down the path, creating a safety issue. When the park is busy with kids riding bikes and people walking, it's essentially unplayable.

The park gently slopes; hole three shoots slightly uphill and hole 9 shoots slightly downhill. Other than that, the holes shoot across the elevation giving the park the appearance of being totally flat. The poor use of the very little elevation they had was disappointing.

The kicker of the design is that all of the holes are supposed to be 333'. Little 9-hole rec courses need Ace runs, and this one has none. Since seven of the shots are flat ground shots and there are so few trees, the shots are monotonous. Some variety in the distances is needed. Fortunately, you can't find the tees so you can modify that on the fly.

All of the baskets are mounted in these high sleeves that come up to about the basket attachment like you would have if you were in a high flood risk area. It was odd since it didn't appear to be in a high flood risk area. The basket for hole seven looks like someone tried to pull it out of the ground with a truck, and the pole buckled at the point where the high sleeve ended. It's mangled, regardless.

Other Thoughts:

The site has some potential for a nice rec course, but the course that is there is a dud. A redesign that does a better job of avoiding the walking path, uses more up/down shots in the design and has some variety in the distances would be a huge upgrade to this course. As it stands, it's best used as a practice site.

strange layout with paths? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Close to the outlet mall. Nice baskets.

Cons:

Couldn't find boxes couldn't even find worn spot in the grass. Most of the tee boxes throw over the path. Just look at the map. This place is DANGEROUS. I was there on a nice day and it was unplayable.Kids were lapping so fast on their bikes it got a little frustrating.

Other Thoughts:

Will try again but only if I can get there early in the morning.I only rate this poor because of the path in front of tee tee pads.seems dangerous to me.
