The Answer is: Wasted Potential 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Tee posts marking the place to throw.
+Decently well kept park. The land isn't the worst land that I've seen used for a disc golf course with a sizable pond, a bit of elevation, and a normal amount of mature trees.
+The first 4 holes involve water if you're into that.
+A decent amount of hole length variety.

Cons:

-Biggest con is still the awkward and small home made baskets. They are showing their age and are not big enough to catch normally.
-Grass tees
-Nothing for signage beyond hole #
-Could lose a disc in the water. This makes this course not fun for beginners nor challenging enough for more advanced players.
-Some of the fairways involving trees just don't have good lines. It's great to have trees as obstacles but when they make you throw unnatural lines just to get around a pine tree, it's not fun.
-Course doesn't loop back close to the starting point.

Other Thoughts:

-To answer dreadlock's question: Definitely wasted potential. Course was designed in 2011, his review in 2017, and now 2021. Safe to say that this is what this course is for awhile. Maybe when the homemade baskets fall apart and become unusable, they will find some money for real baskets, tees, signs, and do a re-design.
-This park could house a decent 2.5-3 rated course with a bit of effort. I could imagine fun park style holes in this place.

wasted potential or a good start? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-large pond in play on the first few holes
-rolling hills throughout the park
-tee posts with hole numbers

Cons:

-hands down, the absolute worst homemade baskets i have ever played on. they are awful. the pans are so small they will not catch nearly any putts. many also have broken chains
-the potential of the land is there but 9 fairways are just strung together. the back 4 holes, in particular, could be designed much better
-the natural pads are often on sloped ground, poorly chosen tee locations
-long walk from the 9th basket back to the parking lot

Other Thoughts:

This course is in Melham Park and the park actually has a lot going for it. There is a small pond that the first 5 holes play around before moving into the flood plain next to it. The flood plain is shaped like a bowl so there are slopes leading down from the edge of the park. This area could be used much more effectively to create some more interesting holes and not leave you with such a long walk back to the parking lot.

The main problem with this course is the baskets though. They are the absolute worst targets I have ever thrown at in my DG career. The pans are tiny plastic bowls and the chains are light and often broken. These baskets will not catch putts. I can't believe I actually got a couple of birdie putts to stick on my round here. I also missed like 5 putts from within 15', hitting chains every time.

With a little bit of redesigning and some revamping of the baskets, this could actually be a very decent course. The pond and hills make for some interesting topography and potentially some fun holes. In the meantime, it is hard to recommend this course in its current state.
