Pros:

Buffalo Trace Park is home to all sorts of different activities. An 18 hole disc golf course is one of them. The course starts on the east side of the lake, wraps through the woods and open along the north side and loops back finishing near hole 1. The course is on the longer side. Not really beginner friendly.

The baskets are Innova Discatchers. These are on the older side but still catch fine. There's a cool hanging basket on the par 5, hole 12. This is extra tricky if the wind is coming off the lake. There's steps on the backside of it to get your disc out of the basket too.

Concrete tees. They seem to vary in size and texture, which was kind of odd. All are concrete though and they get the job done. One tee pad per hole.

The course is a mixture of wooded and open, though it skews slightly more to the wooded side. Just barely though. The lake comes into play in a few spots. Holes 5, 12, 13, 17 and 18. It would take a very errant shot on most of those but it is still possible. There's some minor elevation in play too.

The tee signs are serviceable. Not special but get the job done. Hole #, par, distance and a basic hole map which shows any OB and has a next tee arrow. These are posted on yellow wooden posts which helps with locating the next tee too.

Cons:

The walking trail comes into play too often for my liking. I understand that there's limited space on the north side of the lake, but they could've easily shortened a few holes, notably 12 and 13 and squeezed a few shorter holes in there.

No short tees. If you're going to have all these long holes why not put in at least a few short pads? There's camping and all kinds of other family activities here. With the length of the course it's not good for beginners or kids. Hell, it was like my 975th course and I get wrecked.

Chance to lose discs is very real. Both in the lake and in the neighboring field to the north if the crops are high. The wind can cause havoc coming off the lake too.

Entry fee to access the park. Apparently it's $6 a vehicle to get into the park. There was nobody in the both on a mid April morning so we played it for free. Don't expect that to always be the case though.

Other Thoughts:

This was a solid course. I'd play it for sure if it was near me, but definitely not as much as some others in the area. That said, it's worth a visit if you're nearby but it's not worth a trip out of your way to play it. Good course, just not a great one.

Underrated and has promise 2+ years drive by

Pros:

I guess the $7 entry fee keeps players away bc I was the only one on the course, which was nice
--saw a baby deer near the #3 basket

Cons:

-Real deep brush in a few places (Needs to be mowed)
-Tee pads were, in fact, short
-Course needs to be trimmed (it's overgrown in places)
-couldn't find #8 tee
--is it too much for the city to pay for real hole markers at each tee pad? I was left with years-old hole pictures on flimsy paper that was falling off the stick
-tee pad at 13 was so short thst I fell off on my approach
-you will not find your disc if you go short and right off the tee on 15
--no concrete tee pad on 18 (only foam padding)
-bw careful on 18, the only hole with water in play. And of course I went left and lost my favorite disc

No directional markers between a lot of the holes but you will be fine if you follow the gps on the UDisc app. In my opinion, this is an excellent course. Im not really sure why no one in the louisville/southern Indiana area ever take about it. With a little upkeep this could be much better.

Other Thoughts:

Underrated course that no one seems to talk about. You will most likely won't lose any discs unless you go left on 18, which is the only hole with water in play. It's a good course but Considering it's $7 to get in I likely won't be returning. I'm not cheap or anything; it's just that there's too many other (free) courses in the area.

More work needed! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Love the changes. What a beautiful course.
I truly appreciate the efforts that have gone into this redesign. I will return and bring others with me....Nothing like camping within throwing distance of #10 or #11.

Cons:

I can not give it more than a 3 as this course has 2 features that are huge pet peeves for me: 1) Short tees. I have always been a fan of long tees as I am a tall, long legged player. I realize some of the old tees have been repurposed but, you know, if you lengthen the holes you really should lengthen the tees. Perhaps there are future plans for longer tees?
2) Wild rose bushes and green briar vines!! This is my all time, hard to do worse than this, negative for a course. In my mind, there is no excuse for leaving them growing and I am convinced it is a serious safety hazard that is totally avoidable. You might as well just leave bundles of barbed wire around the course. I can not imagine that the planners purposefully left them growing. Perhaps there are future plans to remove them? I'd help!

Other Thoughts:

From all of the vines sticking up through the leaves I'd say it will be a good year for poison ivy, so if you are allergic, I'd play it ASAP.
I don't get the gallows basket. Never have, never will.
I'd like to give it a higher rating some day....
