Avoid hitting outfielders!

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 29, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good distance variety, with holes ranging from 177 to 443 feet. DGA Mach III baskets were level and caught decently. Interesting use of manmade obstacles and out-of-bounds athletic fields as key design elements. Near-zero chance of disc loss, other than a drainage culvert near one of the baskets.

Having a disc golf course at a high school might encourage students to take up a healthy, lifelong sport.

Quick spin, so you will not waste much of your life playing here.

Cons:

This course winds its way through the school's athletic fields and facilities, so most holes will be unsafe to play when school is in session or when athletic fields are in use. Hole 9 throws directly across a soccer field, and hole 8 plays immediately alongside that same field. Holes 4 and 7 dogleg around baseball fields, which encourages throwing over the outfield fences.

This course is nearly dead flat and wide open, excepting the aforementioned manmade obstacles. Unimproved grass tees were in decent shape.

Some parts of the course can be soggy for a few days after it rains.

Other Thoughts:

Many school courses try to work around athletic fields and equipment. In contrast, this course boldly uses outfield fences and sports fields as key obstacles. I have an odd respect for the course designer's commitment to this design element, even though it significantly limits when the course will be safe to play.

My favorite hole was #5. After an open tee shot you need to navigate a small patch of trees protecting the basket. As favorite holes go, this was pretty underwhelming.

Hole 4 was also interesting. Landing in good position for your approach on this 440' dogleg requires a tee shot that flies across the corner of the outfield and over the outfield fence. The more you push your luck, the easier the approach. Good risk-reward, despite the obvious drawback of throwing across a baseball field. Drop zone if you land in the outfield.

The course abuts a mature forested area. I don't know where the school property line ends, but it is a shame that the course does not extend into what looks like a lovely wooded area for disc golf.

Pros:

Very open course with a few challenging holes. Great place for rookies or to practice your drives.

Cons:

No signage or tees. They are in the process of getting them, but I appreciate what they are trying to do.

Other Thoughts:

Not too much to the course right now, but when things come together, it's going to be good. I like the fact that they are committed to introducing disc golf to the youth by putting it on a high school grounds.
