Nice addition to northern lower MI disc golf!

Pros:

Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga is a new 18-hole DGC located near the top of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. It plays on one side of a county park/campground.

The course has a nice opening hole, playing down a sandy valley and back up the other side with multiple lines to the pin. There are a few more moderately wooded holes sprinkled throughout the rest of the course, and one hole (I think it was #14) that is very tight. The majority of fairways are relatively open, cut through grassy areas in a large meadow - but still with a few trees to add challenge and prevent an easy throw directly to the basket. There was enough shot shaping required to keep me interested.

There is a good range of distances available. This course has three tee pads per hole to create three distinct layouts - Red, Blue, and Gold. The scorecard states that the Red layout is intended for beginners (PDGA rating < 800), and Red hole distances range from 90' up to 402'. I played my round from the Blues ("Intermediate" or PDGA 800-900), and found them to be appropriately challenging - with distances from 190' to 720'. The Golds are intended for "Pros" or PDGA > 900, and really stretch out the distance. The finishing hole plays 1185' from the Gold tee, which I believe was the longest hole I had ever encountered at that time (I would go on to play Highbridge Gold a few days later, where there is a 1440' hole).

The baskets are yellow banded DISCatchers in mint condition, many of which had official yellow Innova flags on top for extra visibility. One per hole.

Navigational signage consists of arrows hanging in the bottom of baskets. Combined with the available map, this was enough for me to judge the Next Tee signage as "passable" - although I always prefer to see more permanent arrows.

The front 9 and back 9 loop back to the parking lot. Never a requirement, but always a perk in my book.

There is a large open area near the parking lot with two warm up baskets at either end - perfect for practicing drives, approaches, and putts alike. There is also a kiosk that includes a course map, and a waterproof box with scorecards available inside. A couple of trash cans and picnic tables are sprinkled throughout the course.

Cons:

The three tee pads per hole are currently just natural and marked with about 6" tall sticks in the ground. The tee signs are decent (showing a map of the hole, distance, and par from each tee) - but they only appear at the gold tees. It would be nice if additional signs were installed at the blue and red tees, both of which are likely to get more use from locals. It would also be nice if the tee signs pointed out baskets from other holes that may be in view (as is sometimes the case).

After the first hole, the course is pretty much flat. And there aren't any super memorable holes here. I think the designers did a great job with the available land, but there just isn't a lot to work with.

Other than that, just a few minor things:
- Hole #14 could use a little more clearing, in my opinion.
- Although it is clear where to go, the walks between a few holes are pretty long.
- No porta potty at the course, although maybe there is something in the campground area.

Other Thoughts:

I want to applaud the attention to safety that clearly went into this course design. Instead of throwing near a playground for hole 6, the designers chose to have a longer walk around the playground area after hole 5. There are a couple of walking trails around the edges of the area used by the course, but they were well off the fairways AND I noticed "Caution: Flying Discs" signs installed on the trail. A couple of fairways are relatively close together, but they play in the same direction so I'm not too concerned.

If you are coming from the east/south, you will have to drive a couple of miles on dirt roads to get here. Just an FYI. Also, park near the maintenance building on your right after the sharp 90 degree turn in the road - not at the campground proper.

Overall, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga is a solid new course. It offers a relaxing setting with 18 holes that can be enjoyed by most DG'ers - from an easy family/beginner round on the Reds up to the lengthy challenge from the Golds. This course could be a 3.5 for sure once the tees are improved. If I lived nearby, I would be excited about this addition to the local scene and would play here often. As is, I only visited because my original plan to play Grayling Rotary was foiled by some kind of cross-country meet happening there - so I had to choose a different course to check out on my drive north to the UP. If you are local or similarly find yourself driving through/visiting the area, Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga will not disappoint!

Pros:

Excellent, brand new course in Emmet County Michigan- the grand opening was just last week (8/11/22). A very welcome addition to Northern Michigan disc golf offerings. Features three layouts for each hole- long, medum and short, really better described as monster, long, and standard lengths. The grounds crew has done an excellent job preparing this course for the public.

Other Thoughts:

Tee pads to come.
