Not Well Marked 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Short, open holes with heavily wooded holes

Cons:

Wooded holes are not marked. When the park is busy, you may have to wait to throw.

Other Thoughts:

If the wooded holes were marked it would make life way easier.

Middle level quality 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

~ A great course for the moderately skilled who want a challenge
~ If you stay out of the woods, it is also beginner friendly, which if you skip from 4 to 14 (walk over the hill in the clockwise direction around the pond) you could play a more beginner friendly 9 hole course
~ Great diversity, shorter to long drives, mild to thick trees, slow hills to very hilly, fair amount of straight, left, and right approaches
~ Half is well maintained grassy park surrounding a pond, the other half is dense woods
~ Little trash, generally clean
~ Not Claustrophobic, plenty of room to breathe from group to group
~ Around the pond all the tees box are leveled flat concrete surrounded by landscape bricks, also including a nice granite pillar having the par, hole number, and maps for each hole engraved into it
~ The wooded areas are maintained to a decent level
~ Plenty of parking right off the road that circles the pond, in which the disc golf course also circles, just pick a parking area that suits you, look for a near by basket, look then for the next tee in a clockwise direction around the pond and you could take off
~ Located right off North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau, which is conveniently just south of I-55 exit 99, for those coming from out of town. Out of the way of most of the City, but not far from some food, convenience stores and other entertainment
~ Pavilions, water spickets, and bathrooms located throughout the course

Cons:

~ Lacks a full map
~ Lacks Granite markers and (in a few cases) concrete tees in the woods
~ Without someone showing you the way the first time, you could become lost
~ The woods can swallow discs, and will if you are not careful, hit your marks
~ Watch the brush in the woods, ivy exists in these woods

Other Thoughts:

~ In the woods, I recommend having a friend spot your disc half way between the tee and basket, or use a bright colored disc you can find, or just hit the fairway and use a landmark to reference where it landed
~ A couple signs around the pond indicating where a couple key holes are, at least hole 1, would be great, when you are about to Melania's Playland, watch closely, you will see the granite marker for hole 3 on your right, and then next hole 1 on the left (Far NW corner of the park)

Interesting Mix... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course plays about half in the woods and half out in the open. The wooded holes (4 - 14) are tight and feature significant elevation, while the open holes are over flatter ground with a couple bringing the lake into play.

Holes lengths range from 153' to 438', with the shortest holes being in tight, sloping woods. The longer holes are out in mostly open areas.

Good variety of straight, curving, and doglegged holes. My favorite holes were Hole 12 which is a big, downhill sweeping to the right, and Hole 14 which features a low-ceiling drive and a hard dogleg left.

Orange Mach V baskets look good and catch well. Many baskets are set on sloping ground to add challenge.

Several of the tees are very well constructed with paving stones surrounded by short walls when necessary. Those tees have well done granite tee signs with the hole information and diagram sandblasted into them and then painted. They are unique among the 200+ courses I have played.

There are several parking areas around the lake which allow you to start your round from three different places.

Cons:

While some of the holes offered very nice tees and tee signs, many had no sign at all, with tees that were already starting to erode badly.

There is a walking path that winds throughout the course, with Holes 1, 2, 16, 17 and 18 playing over and adjacent to the path.

Other Thoughts:

If all of the tees and signs could be brought up to the standard of the "good" ones, I would likely bump this to a 3.5.

Best course in Cape. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is long and fun. :)
lots of elevation.

Cons:

Back section is overgrown.
Needs a posted map for first timers.

Other Thoughts:

This course is fun long and never crowded. Finding the holes the first time around is not as strait forward as o would have liked.

New course still under development and construction. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 27, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course is pretty well spaced out and lay of the land is used well. (Photos give good idea of terrain) The County Park's Commissioner took this project on and sees that it is well maintained including keeping maps and score cards readily available.

Cons:

Lots of poison ivy if you go into the wood line which can tend to be thick and brushy. (They are working on thinning it out) Sometimes wild geese factor into the equation.

Other Thoughts:

UPDATE!!! This course was to undergo upgrades bringing it to a full 18 hole course while it was closed for the holiday season. This did not, however, happen. During this time period the park as changed commissioners where the former commissioner was VERY supportive of the course, and the new one has yet to show the same enthusiasm. I know the local DG club is trying to generate as much support as it can, but only time will tell what the outcome will be.--I'm very disappointed.
