Pros:
-Putting area with 2 baskets
-Great beginner/warm up course
-Holes are very short which is ideal for a pitch and putt
-Tee maps very helpful for beginners (very accurate, flight paths, elevation, etc)
-Hole 1 is close to parking lot, and hole 9 loops back perfectly to the lot
-DD Veteran baskets catch nicely
-Great views of Carson Valley and eastern Sierras
Cons:
-Holes can be too close together
-Sometimes you see multiple pins from a tee and need to re analyze map
-Not much shade
-Holes are too short to consider this a "real" 9 hole course
-Grey colored baskets are sometimes tough to see
Other Thoughts:
My 2.5 rating on this course is based as this is categorized as a typical 9 hole course. If it was just a pitch and putt rating I'd give it a 3.5-4.
This course is part of the new Carson Ridge DG Park which is an overall gem! The city really took their time with the whole design. A big parking lot, 2 basket putting area, 9 hole pitch and putt and then an 18 hole pro course. An excellent combination for all levels of play.
The general look of the course is similar to a lot of Northern NV desert courses with some trees and lots of manzanita throughout. Most of the holes are very short (90'-175') with the exception of hole 7 which is 270' downhill. Also, the obstacles aren't too intrusive to shots which leads well for a beginner course.
Hole 3 is the shortest hole on the course, but has a cool "landing zone" you must make it in to avoid a 1 stroke penalty. Very well manicured "green" with wood chips and an outer rock rim.
Hole 9 has an elevated basket to add some spice to the last hole.
Tee pads leave a bit to be desired with that hard type of aggregate but they all played well. I know it's practically impossible to have concrete tees anywhere in the Tahoe/Northern Nevada area so I get it. I could see some deterioration in years to come.
There are no trash cans throughout the course, just in the parking lot. Not really a con, just pack in and pack out.
Big handicap porta potty is only bathroom on site and it was actually very clean!
I played this course in May with highs in the 70s, but I could see this course in the dead of summer being pretty brutal if there's no cloud cover.
Overall it's a great little course to introduce someone to the game, take smaller children, or a quick warmup before the 18-hole Stadium course. Bring sunscreen, a hat, water, and I'd suggest wearing long pants.
