Great addition to Redding, CA 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 23, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Churn Cr is located on a ball golf course in Redding, just a mile off of Highway 5.
-As a ball golf course, it is well kept, with little trash and generally in good shape.
-Two tees for each of the 18 baskets. These are marked by pine rounds painted either purple (longer) or red (shorter) and a number carved into one of the two markers.
-Baskets in good shape, sometimes visible from the tee pad; often with arrows at the base of the basket pointing in the direction of the next tee pads (purple and red arrows).
-Not many ball golfers when I played, so had the course mostly to myself (Monday afternoon).
-Little chance of losing a disc

Cons:

-Tee pads are dirt, except for hole 1
-While I don't mind paying $10 or so to play (once), it would not be worth it to pay every time if I was local.
-The course is not open to disc golfers until 1 pm. I arrived at noon on a Monday, driving through town, and the folks in the clubhouse were nice enough to let me hop on an hour early, since there were very few ball golfers out there at the time. Schedule accordingly.
-No trash cans that I can recall, and no water or bathrooms except at the clubhouse.
-No tee signs, so I relied completely on UDisc, and would have been lost otherwise. They had a map, but not super helpful.
-The basket numbers are no an indication of the hole you are on, so ignore them for now. These numbers should be removed and the correct basket # should be added. In some cases, you can see a couple of baskets from the tee, and it is not always intuitive which one you are headed towards.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed playing this course, lots of really long shots and not too much danger (some sand traps). This course would score higher in my opinion (4) with the addition of both cement tees, numbered baskets, and signs. There is great potential here, and given the paucity of ball golfers, it could become a destination course for folks in the Redding area, or at least a worthwhile stop as you are passing through.
