Surprisingly Fun

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

DD Veteran baskets on all holes and all in good shape.

Tee areas well-marked, good signage that is descriptive and informative, including the large sign at the beginning of the course introducing disc golf to the uninitiated.

Extensive work has been done to mark the course (more on this later).

An unexpected range of hole distances, from 200ish to 450ish feet.

Cons:

All trees present are small and bush-like. It is easy and expected, I think, to throw over the top of everything.

The holes play back and forth and mostly parallel to each other in a small space. Multiple groups using the course would create issues. But not as many as there might have been...

Other Thoughts:

Here's the thing: This course uses more paint than KISS in their heyday. Every fairway is defined by white paint, red stakes, and several "out of bounds" signs to assure that everyone gets the point. There is OB inside of the circle of every basket, I believe, and very narrow choke points on many fairways.

I guffawed at this, at first, but in playing the course, I found that I actually enjoyed the challenge of choosing lines in the air and trying to keep my discs in bounds. The challenge of deciding if I should throw over OB the whole way or layup and play for 3. The challenge to land my discs on the right angles to avoid skipping OB.

I think the designer(s) found an interesting way to put 9 holes into a very small space without crossing fairways and while trying to mitigate the danger that multiple cards playing a course in such a small space would usually create.

I say go give it a try. You might get an Ace (Frehley or otherwise).

Pros:

Great space and accessible

Cons:

-Course is extremely short
-Holes are far too short with only 4 or 5 feet of "fairway" marked between OB
-Baskets are homemade with plastic chains and you are lucky if they can catch your disc at all

Other Thoughts:

This isn't really a disc golf course, it feels like somebody had the idea to put a course there but had never actually been to a real course before.
There is a good amount of space along the river there, would be great to see it redesigned and metal chains put up on the baskets.
