The course has a number of Pinon trees to contend with and the lay out allows for the holes to pass through the patches of trees for a decent challenge, especially for newer players.

The course plays very quickly and it's easy to get two or three rounds completes in a relatively short amount of time.

The baskets are new DGA Mach 4. The signage is also good with the hole distance and a map of the hole.

Since this is a state park, there are very good bathroom facilities and water available from a spigot.

The area that the holes are in is narrow, so the first time someone plays here, it will be difficult to know the right basket, especially from #2. The #4 basket is straight ahead and #2 basket is on the right, hidden by trees. It takes exploring to find it.

Four holes are on one side of a road where there is little shade, so on a hot eastern New Mexico day (which is the norm) playing will be difficult and water will be a necessity.

Eastern New Mexico is also incredibly windy, so wind is a constant.

The course is in the day area, so a lot of the boaters, vacationers, and fishermen, who use the lake come here to eat lunch under the pavilion or lounge around. They will be right in the middle of the course and may interfere with many of the holes.

It's fun to go through the course quickly, then play it again. I like the length of the holes (medium and short) but I think it would be possible to turn this into a 9-hole by shortening holes 3 and 5, maybe 4. If the holes averaged around 225 feet, then nine holes would fit here comfortably and a lot of people who spent the weekend camping on the lake would have a nice 9-hole to introduce them to the game. As it is, the course will still probably give a good sense of the game to newcomers, but may not be a good destination for experienced players. I have played the course twice, both times when I was traveling on 104, going west from Tucamcari.
