Pros:
--Awesome course for brand spankin new players: I've taken out several beginners to this course and they all had a nice time playing and some even went on to accompany me to better courses and bought their own discs.
--Convenient: I95 is the fastest way to traverse the length of Idaho and if you have 20 minutes to play 9 holes then you may as well pop into the charming town of Craigmont and take a look.
--Innovation: I never actually sat down and thought about ways to play a makeshift course but I'm certain it's possible. The baskets are there and that's the important part!
Low people-traffic: It's a small town and 98% of the time I'm there, there isn't anybody else in the park.
Cons:
--navigating: This course is a pain in the neck to navigate. There are no signs and tee-boxes are marked with rocks on the ground. The rocks have the hole # painted on them. Half of the rocks have been taken by hooligans.
--Lack of creativity: Most holes are a straight shot at a basket that may or may not be defended by anything.
--Baskets: The baskets were built by a local machine shop in Cottonwood Idaho and while they're better than objects they're some of the worst baskets I've seen.
Other Thoughts:
I was blown away when they installed this course. My brother and I, while visiting our parents, would pop over to the course and play several rounds simply to get our fix. This is a beautiful region of the country and I'm hopeful that this course will act as a kind of foothold to allow better courses to find their way into the community. If you are going to be in the area, please feel free to shoot me a message and I can give you a brief description of the course so you can better navigate it.
Be aware of the creek running through the course. It comes into play on holes 5, 6 and 9. If you throw it into the ditch, you'll need to be damn lucky to find it again. Those reeds are tall and the water has a fair amount of cow feces in it (wash your hands if you go fishing for your disc).
Also on hole 5, I'd recommend a spotter as the grass on the hill can be disc-eater too.
I uploaded a map I sketched in Paint. It sucks but it should give you at least an idea of where holes are. You can't see it, but where the RR tracks are, there's a small hill so that means that on holes 2 & 6 you throw from on top of the hill. I didn't mark all the landmarks but it shouldn't be a problem as you can see the basket from every tee box except 5.
