Pros:
A full 18 hole layout that is fun and challenging. Every hole has concrete tees, and the baskets are a mix of varieties but mostly in good condition. It is par 59 with five par 4 holes. Many of the fairways are shaded in heavy woods. A few play over the flat grassy area into the edges of the woods. One hole tees over a small pond. Some heavy rough and water is in play. Several tunnel shots and narrow gaps to spice things up. There is a ridge here and there that elevate pin locations.
This is the best course I have played in College Station or Bryan. I am guessing it will continue to improve as funds become available and is is further broken in. It is a pretty property. I saw a big owl flying after a drive and observing us passing by.
Cons:
I played not long after some substantial rain storms. A bit of standing water in places and some slick muddy spots lingered, but I did get through it without getting my socks soaked. There was water in the creeks, which do dry up evidently, as I looked at some photos on UDisc. I added a link to the course map and I highly recommend snapping a shot of that. The layout is a bit unusual, and it's nice to have in places. The first hole is crossed over by hole 15 and 18. 15 also crosses hole 17 fairway. It is a secluded area, and unless there are church activities I'm guessing it's rarely crowded. I played early on a Wednesday morning, so the course was empty aside from a guy walking his dog. Expect to walk some fairways to seek out some blind holes, and a couple of them are on the 1st and 16th, which are two of the longer ones.
Donations are solicited at the first tee, which is a fair ask, and not necessarily a con. Just be aware that you will need to kick in, and I think there was a liability waiver that can be done on a smart phone also. It is only required on the first visit. There is a QR code on the sign to link you up via phone apps.
Other Thoughts:
I lived in College Station for a couple of years in the early 2000's. This is a great addition to the area, and the best course in the area that I have played. I didn't burn up the scorecard. 12 over par with no birdies. I did make 11 pars, and really enjoyed a lot of the holes.
After getting familiar with pin placements and learning the ropes I think I could shave off several strokes. I have family in the area, so I'll be likely to have another run at it soon.
