open holes at the church 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 23, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-tee signs at each hole
-baskets in good condition but installed a bit high
-has some small rolling hills on the first few holes

Cons:

-missing two baskets so hole 5 now plays to basket 2 and hole 9 is gone
-almost entirely open, only a few trees in play on the whole course
-the end of the course is on the opposite side of the church from the start

Other Thoughts:

The first few holes play around the rolling hills on the west side of the church. They are simple holes with the airspace for any kind of shot you like. Hole 6 tees from a slightly elevated spot and plays over an area filled with bushes. I wouldn't want to throw right into that. Holes 7 and 8 play over a flat, empty field.

The course is simple and unmemorable. I can't imagine it gets more people than some of the church goers, maybe some youth groups. If you're looking for a round of disc golf in Katy you might as well go to Willow Fork or to Flewellen Creek if you're not afraid of some water. This is a reasonable course for beginners or a place to practice if you live very close by but otherwise it's course baggers only.

Pros:

This is a course on a wide open land on a big church property. Most of the holes are wide open and there is very little chance to lose a disc. The tees that have signs have decent signs.

The course is not challenging which could be a pro and a con but for the sake of the course and its location and the people that would go out and play here, it is a pro. Strollers can be brought along and it is a very family friendly after-church-activity type of course.

Cons:

The flow of this course is sort of bad. The first few holes are in this big field then you have to cross the main church road to get to the last few holes.

The church must have expanded because Hole 7 plays stupid close to the parking lot and the church road.

Who ever thought it was a good idea to put the baskets 1 inch off the ground must have been expecting some people to get a sweet roller ace or something. Not that this course is tournament friendly but the baskets being on the ground are not good to practice on as they are illegal, it is pretty silly.

The first basket is missing completely which makes this course 8 very mediocre holes.

Other Thoughts:

To get more people into the sport we need to see more courses like this one. Simple layout, on church property that strikes curiosity into people's heads and they will go out and play the course. We cannot expect all courses to be perfect 18 hole courses with rolling fairways and tough wooded shots.

People have to start playing and this is a good course for people to start playing at without getting frustrated like some Houston courses can be.
