Pros:
Okay, I'm going out on a limb and saying this is a Very Good course. In it's current state it is good. But in a few years, could be Very Good, or even Excellent! With 3 tees on most holes this place is a blast. So much future potential.
And let me say, from the blues and some whites, this is NOT a course for beginners. Forget that this is set around an Elementary School. This course is anything but a beginner course. I, along with 3 other very experienced players, had to pull out all the stops to play this course from the blues. Saying this layout is challenging is an understatement. If you aren't on your game, it's going to eat...you...alive!
I was amazed at the layout, and impressed that the designer carved this out of thick woods. The fairways go straight down, straight up curve left/right all through some tight hardwoods and unbelievably dense young pines. Except for one hole, all my long range drivers stayed in the car. I picked, thumbed and flicked my way down the fairways with a handful of midranges and fairway drivers.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to make lots of notes as I played, but here's a few holes I thought were extremely memorable (all from the blues):
#1 - Man, when you grab your binoculars to spot the basket waaaaaay down (350'+) the hill and through the woods, your heart starts pounding! We unloaded our bags (then had to find our shots) trying tons of different lines and approaches. I found a Thunderbird flicked with Anyhzer worked great finding a way to the basket.
#6 (I think) is your only true Grip and freakin' Rip shot. You're 30' up on a hill looking at a basket a mile away (says 550' on sign, appears 750'). Nothing below you but soccer field. Get your rip on and let it go! Now, the basket is on the edge of drop off (which I figured out AFTER my putter went flying past)
#7 is hard to find, look for arrows on the sidewalk. Hole is pretty good. Slow turning anhyzer shot to basket about 270' out.
#8 was a crazy tight short hole (like so many are) that took an acrobatic shot to reach. Not going to tell you more! Let you figure out how to throw it ;-) I parked it by the way!
#10 is a real cool, very tough shot in the wind. It's about 275' up hill anyhzer shot to a gap in pines. Another place we threw everything in our bag!
The next few are insanely tight, tough holes. #13 is BRU-TAL! Most walk single file, sideways up the fairway! We all flicked it with fairway drivers to have a decent approach
#16 is just...man. NONE of his hit the line on this super sharp, left turning, very steep downhill throw. Go in early, late, grip lock etc and you are toast!
#17 totally LOVED this hole, kind of a reverse of #16. We all approached is way over stable putters (Rynos or Pics) . Tossed with Anyhzer and tried to flip it back toward the basket. We all failed! But a very cool hole.
#18...and after you climbed up/down/over/across these steep hills, you get to throw practically vertical on the last. It's a chunk to get near the top, and dang near straight up!
Cons:
I'm not going to toss out any 'cons' as this is still a work in process. The course is still rough in areas, tee pads iffy and terrain hard to navigate in places. But for all the work that's been done, and the crazy hills the work was done on, any Con's would be misplaced - for now.
Other Thoughts:
This course is physically and mentally taxing. All your shots are challenged, no shots are a 'cake walk'. The pine section is mind-bending dense and tight. But if you want a course to get up in your face and challenge you, you've found it! I predict in 3 years, with concrete tees, this course will be superb!
