Good layout, awful teepads 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Good Layout
- Challenging lines
- Easy to follow

Cons:

- Teepads were made out of some kind of buried corrugated metal filled with dirt. They grip shoes far too well, making me fear for the health of my ACL. I had to throw from behind the tees.

- bugs

Raw, with lots of promise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 19, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Located in the Davis Forest at the dead end of a residential road, it was easy to find for an out-of-town visitor. As anticipated with a course in its infancy, conditions are raw but totally playable. Completely wooded, tight fairways, mostly blind tee shots, with lots of sharp turns. Some elevation changes and well-guarded pin placements make for a fun and challenging recreational course. And I do prefer the DiscCatcher baskets used here (that yellow top rim is just easier to see in the woods).

Cons:

It's new, so expectations should be tempered as such. No signage yet, all natural tee pads. Red dots and arrows on trees help indicate next tees, but navigation can still be tricky with lots of intersecting hiking trails. Red flags mark the tee pads. A few holes more raw and unfinished than others, some of the fairways could use more shape and definition. None of this is a criticism, really, as the potential here is evident. Back holes bring water into sight, which unfortunately, does not come into play on any of the holes (in its current layout, at least). I'd recommend walking most of the holes to see where the baskets are located. One of the baskets was already partially bent.

Other Thoughts:

Take this review with a grain of salt as the course is in its nascent phase, but I felt it deserved one. There is plenty of room here for alternate tees and holes. Will be interesting to watch it develop, but even as a young course, it is still a lot of fun to play. On one of the back holes, a neon green pool noodle outlines a thin tree that would otherwise easily be missed from the tee -- that was an original touch. Just wish they could find a way to bring the water into play -- but I'm not sure where the boundaries of the property lie. If you are nearby, check it out because it's another nice, technical addition to CT disc golf. If driving from an hour out (like me), you might be more tempted to play West Thompson Lake instead at this point. Still glad I checked this one out, though. Will come back for sure. 10/14

Update 5/16: Signs with distance on all holes, some hand scrawled to chart path to basket. Navigation is now a breeze. All holes have developed and shaped nicely. Natural tees replaced with paver stone. A practice basket installed to left of first tee. Sign at entrance. Course is in excellent shape, check it out!
