-It's a new course in the Birmingham area that offers a blistering layout from the longs. The shorts are still pretty challenging for intermediate players. You'll be asked to hit lines less than 10' and throw some long bombs in the field while trying to avoid the tall grass. The mix of open and wooded is really good.

-Even from the blues, as difficult as they can get, some of the holes on that layout offer chances for redemption, since six of the holes only have one set of pads. Holes #1, #13, and #17 are all good birdie opportunities from the blues. All are under 300' and are at least relatively open. #1 is a simple downhill straight shot past a few trees. #13 was really neat, hidden behind a bush. It's open and short, but you have to hyzer around the bush and be able to curl around it quickly after to have a guaranteed birdie. #17 is open across the walking path. Bit of a safety hazard, but a nice change of pace.

-There's some uniqueness to it. #3 is a "V shaped" par four up an initial tight gap out of the woods and back into them. #8 is a neat par four with a whole lot of promise. Could be one of the most memorable holes in the area. From the long, it's a 600+ smash off a slightly elevated pad in the woods into the open and around a big bush. The second half of the hole takes you to the other side of the woods up a small and steep hill over a creek. Crossing the creek may seem easy at first sight, but it isn't. If you hit that hill past the creek, you'll roll right into it. The basket is a good 100' past the creek, so a birdie is very rewarding here. #12 was a beast! 784' par four around a cluster of trees with water in the very center. Past that cluster the fairway continues and rises about 25' in elevation before dropping back down 25' where the basket is located. You have to throw a big spike hyzer and hope to go past the cluster to have a fighting chance for par from the long. The short pad is past the cluster and still plays as a par four. Personally, I think it should be a par five from the long. You'd have to throw an impressive hyzer off the tee and throw up and over a pretty big hill completely straight to make a 3.

-Speaking of elevation, along with #12 you'll see a few other subtle changes. #15 is a blast from the long pad off the hill. #2 was a nice downhill wooded par three with the creek to the right side. There's not a ton of elevation here, but it is a factor.

-Pleasant atmosphere in the back side of a quiet park. Very safe and peaceful course with a wide variety of challenge.

-Dynamic Veteran baskets with red bands and blue rims. Nice tee pads and tee signs with good diagrams as well.

-Many of the open holes have high grass and leave little space for the fairway. I think there's too much high grass. Especially on #10. The fairway is probably at most 30' wide and the hole is 871' from the long and 602' from the short, making it practically impossible for the flight of your driver to not cross over the weeds at some point. You could try and hyzer over the weeds and be left on the other side of them and try and hyzer and it doesn't hyzer left enough. Not to mention, if you play here especially in the mornings, your feet will shrivel like raisins. My feet were scrunched and I drove back barefooted because I couldn't take the weird feeling of my feet in my shoes. The weeds were a problem on the right side of #4 too. The clear cut is a narrow strip. To the left is the deep rough, which is probably as bad as the rough gets at Double Creek. The right side is full of tall grass. Very hard to get your disc to land in the clear area without skipping left into the woods.

-Still incomplete: #9 long. This is 1102' right out of the woods. The tee pad is incomplete and the gap to hit is not cleared yet. I played the white pad, as it is still a long hole (874'). If we lose some of the weeds on the edges of the fairway and clear out the first 30' then this will be a great par five that rewards players with distance. And #6. This was my least favorite hole. The line is almost pinball. There's no real line to the basket, especially from the long pad. The rough is very hard to escape from on this hole too, so it's a very aggravating hole that is hopefully just unfinished.

-Holes #17 and #18 cross the walking path. It's in play the entire way on #18.

-It's a good course. I like Double Creek. With some more work put into it ahead of time, it will for sure be one of the best near Birmingham. It's pretty rough and I've heard some mixed feelings about it. Some people like it and others don't. I feel that it would be really harsh and honestly just unfair to say it isn't a good course because it is a good course. It's just a little untame. The lost disc potential is high due to heavy rough and weeds. It needs maintenance.

-I can see a lot of scoring separation even from the whites. If you can play it safe and dodge the worst parts of the rough and manage to throw accurate shots from tall grass, you'll probably score well on the shorts. Then again, the potential for trouble is almost just as likely as it is from the longs. So if you can't scramble from weeds or manage to hit most of the lines on the wooded holes, you might have a rough round here.

-#11 is that crazy tunnel shot that we haven't seen before in Birmingham. It's 235' down a 15' fairway and a 20' ceiling. The perimeter of the fairway doesn't exceed maybe any more than 70' at any given point on this wooded par three. I typically throw putters this distance and I threw a midrange with a high glide at a low height. Fair but intimidating hole. This is a 235' long "facade type" hole. I thought it was very cool! It's funny how you play a long 800+ par four before this one and the one after is another long par four around a group of trees that harbors water before throwing up a steep hill.

-With some work done, this could maybe be a prospect for the Magic City Mega Bowl in the next few years. It needs some love and some modifications but I'll be back to play it!
