I Like This Course More Each Time I Play

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you agree with me, you can basically narrow disc golf down to three styles of course -- wooded, fairway or park. Most any course I ever played fit one of these descriptions. This is Park Disc Golf at its' absolute best. The course is well maintained. The park is full of cool stuff and the locals I have met are all incredibly friendly.

The course makes fantastic use of the features of this park in well-thought out ways. There is a duck pond in the beginning of the park that plays into three holes. The 2nd is a short downhill with the pond as backdrop. That 3rd Hole is a cool design with a dogleg Par 4 around the pond or an Eagle opp for those with the courage to go over. The 5th Hole is a real challenge, almost a peninsula with pond on one side and road OB on the other. You get two massive downhill shots that we all love to throw. You play around a picnic shelter. You play into an apple orchard. You play with pipes in your drive. There is an awesome shot across a road to a downhill green. You pretty much get to walk every inch of this park on your way.

They have nice vibrant green baskets and concrete tees. There are multiple restrooms along the way.

There isn't much in the way of "nature" but once up on those hills, the vista views of "small town Ohio" are pretty awesome.

Cons:

There is only one set of tees right now and I'd call them Whites. This is not a course that is going to challenge a 950 rated player at all, but there is still a challenge in the shots. Nothing here is as simple as crush it and birdie. You have to shape the shots to make birds.

Because so much of this course plays in the park, there is potential for encounters with other park-goers. This does not seem to be a widely used park, so I've never had much issue, but I could see on a busy summer day that you could have people in some fairways now and then.

The neighbors that live across the street from Hole 5 will let their dogs run free. I've encountered them more than once and they are large dogs. I'm a dog guy. Doesn't bother me, but it would intimidate some, so I'll mention here.

Other Thoughts:

It's a shame that most of the country now knows this town for a train disaster. It's a wonderful little Ohio Town with a first rate park and it's worth visiting. This is an easy drive for Pittsburghers on the turnpike.
