This is a course

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is kind of a hard course to rate as I always get kind of pumped that courses are at schools and hopefully the game of disc golf can be found by someone who wouldn't normally play and it can help grow the sport. This is located in the back of the East Rockford Middle school building and wraps around some of the baseball fields and tracks. I also noticed that I am getting to 100 courses played and this was #96!

-Baskets - They are new disc catcher baskets.

-Stroller friendly - I took my son here in his stroller and there are a lot of paths that make this fairly easy to move around.

-Manicured - the grass here is nice and there is not really going to be any rough. As I mentioned above the grass was also cut well enough that a not super off-road stroller still made it through the course easily.

Cons:

- Extras - No Tee Signs, no Tee Pads, no Map on site, and honestly to play this course you need to have UDisc to figure it out. I even had a slightly hard time figuring it out with this.

- Busy - I went at 8:30 AM on a Saturday and a few baseball practices were happening. An arrant shot can land on the field they using. A lot of people were walking around the paths too which will force you to wait for people to pass by also.

- Course Design - I feel weird putting this as the bullet point, and honestly not sure what to call this, but with the space provided it does a good job of having some "Fun" holes, but over all it goes in and out of the other stuff that makes it busy. I am not sure the best time to be here as the fields will most likely be in play all summer, and you go in and out of them.

Other Thoughts:

Over all, I'd guess this isn't going to be a course you are going to play a ton, but if you are going to Courtland it may be worth checking out. If you live near by this may be a good one to be able to get a few holes in when you have 30 minutes.

I noticed others mention Porta Potties, I only saw one while I was there that I remembered and it was knocked over.

Good for the target audience!

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

East Rockford Middle School DGC is a 9-holer that plays around some athletic fields behind the school.

There is some decent distance here. Holes range from 200' to 440' and average just over 300'. Things are quite open overall, but wind could definitely be a factor. Not a bad place for middle school students to work on their drives. A couple of baskets are partially guarded by trees, and some holes have man-made obstacles to shape shots around.

The baskets are yellow banded DISCatchers, correctly numbered and in good condition.

There are several porta potties, trash cans, and benches scattered around the area.

Cons:

This course has no infrastructure besides the nine baskets. No tee pads, and no signage or tee markings of any kind. You'll need UDisc not only to navigate but also to figure out where exactly to tee off from. Some tee areas utilize existing sidewalks, but others are just in the grass.

The course has very few obstacles to work around, and most of the obstacles that ARE in the way are man-made. I believe the only natural obstacles are some brush on the left side of hole 7, and the couple of trees near baskets. There is also not enough elevation change to really affect anything.

The design does a pretty good job of avoiding egregious safety concerns. But you'll still have to skip holes if the fields are being used. And you should assume that the course is closed during school hours.

Other Thoughts:

Not a whole lot to say about this one honestly. It's a pretty boring course, but not a bad play for the target audience. Big arms will be looking to birdie almost every hole. I have just enough of a noodle arm to not be able to reach most of the baskets here, so I finished right at even par. If you find yourself in the immediate area, there are worse ways to spend 30 minutes.
