Pros:

The Augusta area is home to some incredible courses. This area is a must visit destination. In case you accidentally head north instead of south from the interstate, you have Edgefield.
- Several fun and/or good quality layouts. #4 - 7 is an enjoyable, quality stretch. #6, with a long ways across an open field requires a good set of eyes to spot where your tee shot lands as you may be touching down in tall grass. A good second shot can give you a quality 3.
- Long layout. This 9-holer averages 391 feet/hole, not your average small town 9-holer. Good for big arms and/or practice. For people looking for shorter/easier layouts, head down to Aiken.
- Easy flow & layout. The course makes a big clockwise loop around the park. You pull into the parking lot and the first tee is on the right side. Simply by walking ahead, you'll find the first four holes. Your only 'difficult' tee to find is #6 and that's because there's a long walk after #5.
- Course makes adequate usage of limited obstacles. The baskets on #1 & 4 are each protected by a tree. #3 is a dogleg right around a baseball outfield fence. #5 plays into an opening in the trees.
- #9 is a fine closing hole. After all the walking, around the perimeter of the park, it's only fitting you have one more walk to get back to the parking lot.

Cons:

I'll preface this by saying it's clear there wasn't a lot to work with in terms of challenge. I'm also not sure where the park's property line ends.
- This layout is adequate. #1 - 4 play over/alongside a walking trail. You also have many holes playing alongside baseball fields. That is to say there are going to be plenty of times portions of, or the entire, course is unplayable.
- A few too many wide open, no obstacles whatsoever holes for my liking. #2, 3, 6 (if you don't count tall field grass an obstacle), and 9.
- You're throwing alongside a two-lane road on #2 & 3. You throw over the edge of the parking lot on #5.
- I didn't understand #8's layout. The course map makes it appear to be a curved, dogleg left. The hole length is listed at 461 feet. I just threw straight at the basket (300 feet or so) and had a 20 foot birdie putt. Is there supposed to be a mando here?
- In terms of spacing, it would be nice to have seen more wooded holes akin to #5. You finally get a change of pace layout. Then, you're back in the open for the final four holes.

Other Thoughts:

Edgefield is a simple layout. Simple can be fun. Simple can be boring. Edgefield has elements of both.
- If there were a way to incorporate the woods near #5 & 6, this course would be substantially better. I'd prefer a more varied layout. Eliminate several holes and condense the entire course in the areas between #4 - 8, or something along those lines.
- It goes without saying, but this may not be the most fun course to play on a summer afternoon. There's little to no shade. So be prepared to get toasted during your round.
- The good news is that you're exceptionally close to some of the best courses in the entire Southeast. The bad news is that this course has absolutely nothing in common with the best around.
- There are a couple above average holes, a couple so-so ones, and a lot of simple layouts. On a nice day, you could have a fun round or two. On many days, you'll forgot about this course as soon as you drive away.
- Enjoy holes 1, 4, 5, & 6. Your opinions on #7 & 8 will probably determine if you like this course or not. Most likely this is a one-and-done for many players.
