2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Its pretty

The tee pads are really nice

its good from beginners

its well maintained (biggest problem being its in a low spot so the course is almost always wet)

there are a lot of interesting birds here I've seen pelicans, cormorants, and even some snowy egrets as well as the usual ducks and geese

Cons:

in some places like 3-5 you're basically just throwing back and forth across a field

very easy to lose disc on 2, 12 and 13 and a few others if you're way off course

almost no change in elevation

signage could be a bit better though there is a course map. 3 is probably the hardest tee box to find from the previous pin (its across the bridge and a little ways down the path) also 12 is though to spot from 11 (its just up the hill to your left)

its pretty easy

Other Thoughts:

I live about half way between this one and village greens and I will almost always chose this one over village greens

Nice course in well-maintained park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Huge concrete tee pads on every hole, with hole number and distance in the concrete itself - some of the nicest pads I've seen. The water comes in to play on most of the holes, including one hole with a carry of about 200 feet over part of one of the lakes. The holes make a figure 8 around a pair of lakes in a nicely maintained park with nice amenities and mowed grass fairways. Decent mix of long and short holes.

Cons:

No signs, but every hole is pretty open, and it's pretty obvious where the basket is from the tee. Trees only come in to play on a couple holes; otherwise, this course is almost entirely open with the exception of the two lakes. Not much variety in terms of hole shape. Unless you want to chose shots shapes that are always over land to avoid losing discs, you are never really forced to throw specific lines, and you can pretty much throw the same shot from every tee.

Other Thoughts:

I don't usually like water holes, especially holes that force you to carry significant bodies of water but this course is still fun. The carry over the lake on #2 is manageable with a good throw. Some of the baskets are a bit close to the water's edge, but I guess with the course being so open, that does provide a little extra challenge. Even though the course is open, the water does force you to be accurate in the same way trees would, only if you miss to the water side, you can't recover like you would from hitting a tree. I'm not crazy about the prospect of losing discs to lakes, but once you get over that, the course is still enjoyable, and if you focus on hitting the correct line, you should be able to avoid putting a disc in the lakes.

Popular Denver Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+This course looks to be very popular. The locals were friendly and always let me play through. I was a fast playing solo course bagger and they understood.
+Ponds here for water hazards. Approachable yet challenging for many skill levels. There was always a pretty safe shot even if you can't throw far.
+Good variation in distances here. Some ace runs and some that will test the distance potential of many.
+Very well maintained and lanscaped. There was evidence of ongoing maintenance near the ponds when I played.
+Large concrete tees which are numbered to aid in navigation.
+There was a logical flow to the course which was good for me as a traveling player. You will likely have the chance to throw with or behind a local to help your navigation as well.
+Disc golf was fairly secluded from the rest of the course. You are unlikely to hit anyone.

Cons:

-There were a few trees here, more than some other course in the area but still not many. There was rarely a hole that made you hit a certain line.
-Other than a few somewhat memorable holes, the course kind of blended together. I think that I would get bored if I lived near here. Not sure where else I would play though.
-The ponds smelled.
-The park looks like it would hold a lot of water after precipitation. Pretty dry right now though.
-Losing a disc is a real possibility.
-Could get pretty windy.

Other Thoughts:

-There were a few holes that had a decent fun factor with the water.
-This is the best course in it's area of Denver but I did prefer Camenisch Park and DHU over this course. Denver is lacking in quality courses so if you don't have time to head to the mountains, this isn't a bad bet.

As Flat As Denver Can Be 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 17, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Park Setting - I absolutely love park-style courses, though I prefer a few more mature trees than Exposition Park provides. The park is well-maintained and clean. Sidewalks were in great condition. Grass was mowed. Landscaping was excellent. Exposition park is an aesthetically pleasing place.

Water - The course plays around a small creek and over a feeding pond at the back of the park. There is plenty of challenge, especially on windy days, and for out-of-towners who are not used to the additional disc stability from the elevation .

Pin Placement - The best attribute of Exposition Park, in my opinion, are the pin placements. Lots of risk/reward. Most are tucked fairly close to the water. Birdies are available, but aggressively going after that 50-foot putt can really mess you up if you're long.

Baskets/Pads - Baskets looked to be in good condition and all caught well. Pads were awesome. Very large providing plenty of space.

Cons:

Redundancy - The course is so open that you can simply throw your preferred line off of every tee. For me, I was simply throwing gentle hyzer after gentle hyzer. You could easily play this course well with a driver, a mid and a putter.

No Tee Signs - Crossing back and forth over the creek as much as you do, it would really help if tee signs were there. Directionals pointing to the next tee at each basket would also be fine, but we didn't see any of those either. The pads have hole distance written into the concrete, but signs would be helpful for navigation.

Hole #1 - 'welcome to our course. Please throw ~270 feet in front of you with no obstacle of any kind'. That's really Hole #1. Nothing that gets the blood pumping for an exciting round. In my opinion, you should NEVER open or close a course with the most bland hole.

Goose Poop - It was everywhere. Tread carefully.

Other Thoughts:

Exposition Park was a fun little stop since it wasn't far from the hotel. We were told it was in the "bad" part of town, but it didn't look too rough to me. I've definitely played in much seedier areas. Bottom line: the course is wide open, and really not that long. The only challenges are provided by the presence of water on most holes and the wind, which seems to get a little crazy at times.

While it was very short, #18 may have been my favorite hole in the Denver area. It is a great closing hole despite it's lack of distance. Water on the left of the fairway and long. A couple of planted trees in various parts of the fairway, though none over 8-10 feet in height. If you're up by a stroke, it can be intimidating knowing that you really need to birdie the hole, but the difference between a birdie and an OB bogey is very small. Great little finishing hole.

If you're in the area, Exposition Park is not a bad place to get in a quick round. The park can be a little crowded, but not nearly as crowded as Johnny Roberts or some of the other park courses in the Denver area. Don't go out of your way to play the course, but I don't think anyone would "hate" playing it, if it were convenient. It is a "typical" course, with water and pin-placement balancing out the wide open nature of the park.

Pros:

Nice teepads with hole # and distance on them.
Fairly scenic walking park with a small lake the course plays around.

Cons:

all holes repetitive and wide open between 250 and 320'. The one longer hole is 400, also wide open.
Virtually no challenge for advanced players.
Beginners might lose discs in the water.
Some fairways were swampy and pins were surrounded by mud/water (not by design).

Other Thoughts:

would not play again. I was near Denver airport and found this course.

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 17, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Public park course playing over grassy fairways around several small lakes and a creek. Some of the best concrete tees anywhere- large, grooved with curves that point in the direction of the basket, with hole number and distance etched into them. The baskets are in great shape. Hole placements are tricky and strategic helping to make up for the lack of other obstacles.

Cons:

Most holes were very wide open and had little to no obstacles. Yes many holes played next to the lake or creek, but there was also a generous and safe area to play the hole safely with little risk.

No tee signs, just pads, (info on the pad), but this makes it hard to see where they are the first time playing, especially since the course crosses the lakes multiple times.

This course is supposedly in the "not-so-good" part of town, but compared to many other places I have played with this reputation.

Other Thoughts:

I played when it was very windy making it much tougher, but on a calm day this course would get fairly repetitive and easy to master being mostly just wide open. This is a good place to get out and learn to throw discs with ample room to work them.

I played here mainly because it was close to where we were staying when visiting, but if you are coming on vacation this is one that is not worth going out of your way to play. I have played many average courses like this in many cities across the U.S.

Beautiful Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful, wide open, well maintained park with very nice tee pads. There were some nice water holes, but nothing that really gets in your head. Lots of great scenery while moving though the course. Requires a variety of standard shots, but nothing too challenging. The course was easy to navigate and the parks department did a good job of not over crowding the disc golf area, so there wasn't really any risk of hitting walkers or kids on the play ground. the back 9 did have a few nice shade trees that people were picnic-ing under, but they were hip to the course and watched out for themselves.

Cons:

This was a nice little course, if anything I can point to as a negative would be that it wasn't terribly challenging, but not every course has to be brutal.

Other Thoughts:

The water level was down while we were there, so I assume it would be a bit more difficult during the rainy season. Overall, we enjoyed this little course while we were in Colorado!

Fun Quick Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course had a great lay out as it went throughout the park. Water came to play in most of the holes. The ponds where frozen solid on New Year Day and if you are new to the game you should play this course in the winter. It will keep you from losing your disk to a water hazards. One of the best marked tee box courses I have played with the distances marked in the concrete throwing pads.

Cons:

GOOSE POOP! Even on the frozen snow covered ground you could see the grounds are covered in it. Do not wear your good shoes to play as they will need a cleaning after a round of golf. They need to extend the holes to have a few par 4 or 5 holes. The park does not have much for obstacles to throw around and it felt as though I was having to hold back during tee off. I could throw directly to most holes and even past many if I really let one rip. After playing one hole you felt as though many of the holes played the same just sightly shorter or longer.

Other Thoughts:

If in the area you need to stop by and play this course, but they really need to figure out how to get rid of the geese. I would offer up another half star if they got rid of them. The only thing that keeps this course from 5 stars is that and the lack of obstacles and no long holes.

Classic Suburban Denver 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice neighborhood, feels very homey.

Great open feel. Lots of room for a busy first round of the year.

Very typical use of open space in Denver Metro Area. A low lying patch of land that serves as runoff for storms and floods.

Some longer holes encourage beginners like me to focus on form for maximum distance.

70+ people came out to play on New Year's Day. This is a popular course, and a must-play among the big courses in the region.

Cons:

Wide open space. Few mature trees. I got sunburn from the reflective snow on January 1!

I'd bet, given the general geography of this park, that it is wet and sloppy after a melt or a storm.

Other Thoughts:

The pond was frozen solid today, and many golfers went out to bring errant discs back. There was a good flow of water in and out of the pond, though, and I worry that the ice may be less forgiving on other days.

Fun little public park. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Good, full color map near the practice basket. Encased in a polyurethane case to protect it from the elements.
-Practice basket with plenty of room around it to warm up on those long putts
-Over half the holes have water in play, and except for hole 13, have very good basket positions to make them challenging yet not fustrating
-A few open bomber holes for the big arms to enjoy as well
-Tee number and distance carved directly into the back of the teepad, so no need to worry about vandalism

Cons:

-Biggest gripe is the teepads. The have little channels grooved into them, I assume to funnel off water, bit makes run ups feel weird.
-While the layout is mostly intuitive, the lack of teesigns can make a few holes hard to find
-Tons of goose and duck feces on the teepads, sidewalks and baskets. Not Mich anyone can do a out that, but its really gross.
-Aside from the water, there's really no other obstacles, just a few random trees, but none that require any true shot shaping

Other Thoughts:

Super busy park, which is a good thing for the sport. But its best to come with a group because, even in the winter months, you'll probably be waiting around a bit. Lots of non-disc golf traffic as well so as always, be respectful, and you're better off yelling "heads up!" Than "fore!" As they wont know otherwise.

Overall, a fun park that is pretty average. The water makes it pretty cool and adds more challenge than most park courses usually have. Begginers and intermediates are the target audience, but advanced players will ti.d some fun here too.
FAVORITE HOLE: 2; a 250 foot straight shot across the pond. A super fun little ace run that I hit chains on multiple times. Just a cool hole all around.
LEAST FAVORITE HOLE: 13; a long hole known locally as "The Island." Big arms may like it, but for my skill level it was just a stupid pain in the butt.

Water! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-There is water in play on a lot of the the holes. Many of the baskets are near water, which really makes you decide whether you want to go for it or play it safe. A couple of the holes throw directly over the water. The ponds on the course are by far its best feature.
-The course has very nice DGA baskets
-The park is well groomed and taken care of and the only place you will probably lose a disc is in the water
-Very nice, big concrete tee-pads that have the hole number and hole distance marked directly on them
-Several of the holes have some elevation change on them
-A decent amount of distances ranging from about 190 feet to about 400 feet
-Information board and practice basket

Cons:

-The course is very wide open and does not have very many trees or other obstacles. The only major obstacles this course has is the water hazards
-The course gets pretty repetitive after a while as most of the shots are just straight wide open shots, with very few doglegs right or left
-There are really no truly challenging holes on this course or any holes that are really that memorable.
-The course has no tee-signs, which can make it a little hard to find the next tee-pad at times
-The course is a little hard to navigate at times. There are not markings pointing you to the next tee and there are some long walks between several of the tees, which can lead to navigation issues. A sign pointing to the next tee would be really nice.
-The information board and practice basket are nowhere near the first tee, which can make it confusing to find the first tee-pad
-The park is a very busy park with a lot of non disc golfer traffic it and has lots of people walking all over the fairways and nearby sidewalks, which could lead to quite a few safety issues

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is not a very memorable course. Non of the holes are very challenging or stand out very much. Despite the fact that the course is not very hard, I find it would be frustrating for beginning players because of the amount of water on the course, which could lead to a lot of discs going into the water. Overall, its not a bad course but it is also not a very exciting course.

Great Practice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I dig the open fields for long drives, especially practicing a different type of throw. Concrete tee boxes are a major +. The front nine is a smooth transition across open fields with little obstacles. The back nine starts throwing water, trees, and brush in your way to close out your round with a slight challenge increase.

Cons:

No real shade at the tee boxes. You will find yourself waiting on this course from time to time, and a little shade would be nice. Water.... specifically hole 13 & 14, if your a lefty watch slinging it over the water hoping for it to roll back. If the wind is up even a litte, it can carry you out, and its not getting recovered. Bogged out holes is another issue on this course if the water level rises from rain. Hole 9 (the basket) & 10 (the tee box) can completely disappear. If there has been any rain, wear some good mud shoes lol.

Other Thoughts:

In general, great practice or beginner course. If your showing up and throwing alone, take a few minutes to just hit the practice pin. Groups always meet up, and other singles meet up there, so you're bound to be able to hop into a group if you want.

Decent intro course, great for wind practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of great rolling hills or flat grassy areas making it difficult to lose discs in anything other than the water hazards (see cons below). Great wind that can either help you learn to throw and what to throw in windy conditions or really screw with your "normal" game. Even long tees are fair to make par. Had some near aces and long puts with a new player friend.

Cons:

Water hazards are fine if you can get to your disc in the hazard. Unfortunately over half of the tees are right up against muddy, smelly, and relatively deep looking ponds/lakes. The areas between the ponds are just creeks but the brush on each side of the creek can easily "eat" a disc, never to be found when it's likely right in front of you. We got lucky and didn't lose anything but saw several other folks that weren't so fortunate. Highly unlikely you will lose anything if you play smart/careful but the wind can really mess with that when you have long throws right at a basket up against the water.

Other Thoughts:

Though these types of courses are not as fun or challenging as others in the area, they are great for practicing your technique and learning the game or how a new disc handles. Creates a more even playing field when playing with someone that has less experience playing. Less likely to waste a bunch of time looking for discs like many other courses nearby.

Awesome Tee Pads! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 1, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Expo Park DGC is set in a nice large green, sprawling park with lots of water hazards to throw over, around and next too. The tee pads are the best around. They are big and grippy with the hole # and distance molded right into the concrete-first rate all the way. The baskets are DGA with red numbers facing the correct way (that is towards the tee pad). They are lined in concrete pavers which is another nice touch here. Although the course is generally a recreational level course, # 13 is kind of a monster. It's 354' with a carry partly over the lake to a basket which sits on a small peninsula of land . That hole would challenge most any player. Myself, I kinda like # 12. It's a 267' downhill throw over the lake around some trees. It's somewhat scary looking at first but after throwing it the first time I realized that it's actually a fairly easy little hyser ACE run. There are quite a few fun little ACE runs on this course including, # 10, 12, 16 (195') and 18 (210').

Cons:

The lake is disgusting and smelly. I'm glad I didn't throw any discs in it. The ditch doesn't seem to be much better. I played in July during the middle of a string of 100 degree days and the lake was way down. I'm sure it would way more menacing in the springtime. The course was fairly boring in places. I would lose some discs here, for sure.

Other Thoughts:

Other than the monster hole (#13) I see this course as a decent recreational course. The lake and creek certainly add to the challenge/danger/thrill. I'd like to play it again and improve my score. It's a course where knowing how much room behind the basket would most certainly help you. I gave the lake a wide berth whenever possible. I didn't want to feed that green disc eating monster.
