Solid Neighborhood Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This nine hole course is back in a very nice neighborhood and signed "For Resident's Use Only". However the local who took me out there plays it often and has never been hassled.

The holes play over short mowed grass with no brush but quite a few mesquite trees. The trees hang low and add a lot of low-ceiling flavor to the course. You'll often have to keep your drives low or risk getting up into the branches and getting knocked down.

All of the holes require some shot shaping, with some requiring that you hit a tight line to get to the basket on your drive. Having both a forehand and backhand is an asset here.

Hole lengths vary from 150' out to 480' (par 5!). Seven of the holes are under 250', so this is a great midrange and putter course.

Cons:

No teepads and only rudimentary signs with hole number, par, and distance.

Course is flat, dry, and short. If you are looking for elevation or bomber holes you'll be disappointed.

There is a walking path and at least one bench very much in the fairway of some holes. If the park was busy you would need to be watchful and perhaps skip a hole.

Other Thoughts:

This course is set well back into a residential neighborhood with some twists and turns to get there. According to my local guide it is played very little and the park itself isn't busy.

It is marked private and for the use of residents only, but I assume that if you behave yourself you'll be fine.

Good call on the trail and bench issues, Mark. Please see my note to Monocacy above.
