Pros:
New course with new baskets. The course is well maintained. I was shocked to find wood chips covering some of the fairways in the woods.
Most of the course is nicely marked. See my comments in the cons below. There is a big map on the wall of one building and smaller map signs posted throughout the course.
Initially, as I looked at the course I thought it was going to be very straight forward. But the first five holes have some length to them and, especially on hole #3, three very nice big pines are in front of you and the basket way behind it. Hole #5 was also a tough up hill throw.
I think the best is left for last. The wooded part was great! There were three blind basket shots and they were put in tricky spots! I especially enjoyed the short 166' hole #8 that is not only down hill, but has a serious drop off behind it. Who doesn't like a good death putt hole?
I always enjoy a top of the world throw. That basket on hole #10 is a LONG way down there!
Cons:
After studying the map, I easily found hole #1. After finishing, I was a bit lost. I saw signs for other tees, but none for #2 or #3. Some staff came out and pointed me to a surveyor flag up above hole one. Once I got there, I discovered a tee board with small sign sunk down in the ground. I get that this makes it easy to mow, but was really confusing just starting out. Hole #3 was the same way. Then the rest of the holes had really nice sign markers and it was really easy to find my way the rest of the way. Just two stand up signs on #2 & #3 will really help finish out this course!
The tee pads are all natural. If in grass, then grass. If in the woods, then dirt, stone and roots. This made a few throws tricking with the footing. It will become a much bigger issue once this course gets warn in. However, the church seems to be maintaining their property well so I bet they will address the issue.
No bathrooms are available. However, just down the street is a gas station.
Other Thoughts:
I was really surprised by this course. The terrain was challenging and I liked the way they used it, especially in the woods. I enjoyed talking with some of the staff. They mentioned that the course was built for their youth program, but were glad to open it up to disc golfers. For that, I give them a big "thank you". This course is obviously a labor of love. They have invested some hard earned money in it and I applaud their efforts. I look forward to bringing a few friends back to play again!
