Fun, Well Laid-Out, Disc Golf Course That Plays Simultaneously With Ball Golf

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 23, 2023 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Well maintained.

- Good variety of hole lengths and shots.

- Newer baskets in excellent shape.

- Also a con, but given that they're grass tees, because it's a golf course they're all in great condition. Grass tees are generally a con, but can't ask for better ones if you're stuck with them.

- Friendly, laid-back staff.

- Great course for pull carts and anyone with mobility issues. (You can also rent power carts if they have any available!)

- Nice setting off in the Cavendish woods.

- Some big open holes where you can unload full drives.

- Risk/reward spots where you can definitely lose discs in hazards, but it's very obvious where hazards are. Much lower chance of losing discs in woods than other courses on islands.

Cons:

- Grass tees. (See note above.)

- Although there's a decent variety of lengths and shots, it's very clearly a ball golf course first with baskets tucked in to forest lines, not how you'd lay it out if you were just utilizing the land. That said, still enjoyable.

- Navigation not the most intuitive, you need to look for post-style markers. UDisc was off in places Aug 2023.

- If golfers are on the course, disc golfers have to wait/fit in. You can't book a tee time as a disc golfer. (This shouldn't be a huge problem most days, but is potentially a bit of a nuisance if you're driving 40 mins from Charlottetown to play.)

- Physical course map they give you, printed on printer paper, is almost useless.

Other Thoughts:

- Hole ratings in terms of par are VERY forgiving.

- I generally dislike hybrid ball/golf courses, but I enjoyed this course and have gone back to play it again.

- Small selection of discs and food/drinks in pro shop.

- Cost is steeper than any other course on the island, but to be expected given that it's a golf course.

- If we could give more detailed ratings I'd give this a 3.7 or 3.8 I think, it doesn't have quite the variety or challenge of some of the other hybrid courses we've played, but very enjoyable overall, but I'd rather not go down to 3.5 for the first review. Given that most of the island courses are long, wooded courses, it's a nice change to have a relatively open course.

- Course is right in Cavendish, so if you're going at a peak tourist time be prepared for that. Also a great excuse to check out Cavendish if you haven't!

- Can be a bit buggy, recommend bug dope in summer months.

- If you've already seen Cavendish and have played a decent number of hybrid courses in your day, I'm not sure this course is worth a 40 minute drive to knock off the bucket list, but it's a great option for a relaxing round where you get to rip some drives, and a nice alternative to the long wooded courses that Islanders are spoiled with.
