Fun private course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cart friendly, gentle slopes, shady forest, not too much brush to lose discs in, generally fun to play. The front 27 are very beginner friendly as long as you keep track of yourself on the longer holes.

Cons:

Need to call ahead, need knowledge of the course to play the first time, hard to find first tee, last 9 are crazy punishing, holes often don't have a good "line" directly to the basket, it felt weird throwing so close to personal property even if it is a private course.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a very nice course. With some tree removal and lane creation all 36 would be superb. Could probably use a little better signage for the first tee, however I really liked the course.

Course Update 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Bill & Karen have added an additional 9 holes with 23 new baskets for a total of 36 holes. The new 9 has a mix of long & short holes with more tunnel shots. This 9 is also longer than any of the other sections of the course with #35 a 500' down hill shot to a tree surrounded basket & the final hole a 450' shot to the hanging basket. To add to the fun, they have added basket lights to holes 1-18 allow glow rounds!

Cons:

None - For a privately owned & maintained course you will not find a better place to play!

Other Thoughts:

Bill and Karen are contiually trimming and clearing the course. If you are in the area, call and stop by and play a round. There is a mailbox by hole #2 with maps, score cards and a guest book. Be sure to sign it! Also watch Discgolfscene.com for upcomming tournaments (this is how they fund new basket purchases).

Country Woods 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 5, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wow! The setting is ideal if you like off the beaten path. I timed this course well. Beautiful fall weather & colors. Karen, the owner, was absolutely delightful. Her & her husband, Bill, are in the process of installing 10 more new baskets on their 27 hole course, which I believe will vastly improve the course. The old hand made baskets were cool but not as cool as the new ones will be! The course plays around the property and into the woods. Short accurate throws mostly with a few longer holes. Layout & design is good. Signage is OK. I REALLY liked this course and would highly recommend playing it. I like rural private courses. It's character is special. It is not a city course. No distractions. No mixed use. Bill, Karen, their family & friends have done an outstanding job. I only needed a Rhyno, a Buzzz, a Teebird & a Tern.

Cons:

It is not a professionally designed course, so keep that in mind. They do not have a maintenance crew. I feel with their future plans of more pruning to create some allies to eliminate chance in favor of skill, will vastly improve this course. Just a few more signs will help their out of town players navigate the course easier. I made my way around just fine, but others could get frustrated...
Not many big bomber throws

Other Thoughts:

This is a special course created by special people. THANKS Bill & Karen! The hole-in-one stone plaques are cool. No aces for me this round, maybe next time! There is a place & time for everything. This place demands respect & courtesy. There is zero garbage. Zero cigarette butts. You must make an appointment to play. Respect. I felt as if I were at some spiritual retreat, yet disc'n at the same time. I played well! Thanks again to B & K.

Homemade at its Best 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

- 27 different looking holes spread throughout some beautiful property in Owego NY. There didn't seem to be much if any repetition through all 27
- The course is set into three sets of nine if you didn't have time to play a whole round
- Tees and baskets are numbered
- Most holes if not all had cement tee pads
- Great course for working on control. You don't have to be able to throw far to do well on this course
- Variety of shots required to play well on this course. I threw sidearm throws as well as anhyzer throws, some hyzer throws and even a thumber or 2
- Great scenery to look at while you are playing the course
- The owners of this course are extremely friendly and helpful . Karen played a round with me when she got home from a hard day of work and I might not have made it through the course without her.

Cons:

- Baskets are homemade although they are the best I have seen and I could hardly tell the difference. They put this course in with no sponsorships or donations and as far as I know don't even charge people to play. 27 400 dollar baskets would be a little too much for them to come up with.
- The tees can be a little short
- The course is not set up yet for the passerby disc golfer to play on their own. So if you haven't played before it is recommended and pretty much required that you set up an appointment to come down and play with Bill or Karen. They are very fun to play with.

Other Thoughts:

So what do you do if you enjoy disc golf and there are no courses in the area, well you make your own and that is exactly what Bill and Karen have done. They have done a very nice job at that. I really enjoyed my round with Karen and it made for a nice ending for my Binghamton disc golf trip. Like I said before if you want to try this course out make sure you call and set up an appointment to play.
