Doesn't Suck

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tee signs
Map
Good baskets
VERY quick play
Ace run city

Cons:

VERY short, this is a kids course
5 holes are decent little holes, then hole 6 is a wide open slightly downhill wide open shot.
Tee off from the walking path

Other Thoughts:

This is exactly what it is suppose to be, a Kids course. The longest hole is hole 6, it's wide open with zero trees and the longest hole clocking in at 200ft.

The rest of the holes are putter holes and should be considered par 2's for most of us.

It's a fun little course to throw and takes about 10 min unless you empty your bag like I did on every hole.

Most of the holes do have tree's to navigate. Hole 5 is pretty cool, a hanging basket.

There was a little creek with running water when I played it, but it really does not come into play. I just had to slightly walk around it on hole 4. I also followed the walking path on hole 6 so I don't remember if it was marshy in the fairway.

Would I play here again? Well not going out of my way for sure. But if you are looking for an ace or want to work on your upshots, this is a small quiet little park.

Child's Play

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Six holes with tee sign that has a whole map and distances... a little over the top, maybe, but better than nothing.

For a course geared toward kids, this is a great design. There are always options on how to get to the pin. They may not be good options, but they're options. Distances are all below 200ft except hole 6... but that's only 205 and is downhill so still not requiring over 200ft of power.

Tricky tree lines. 1 has a small middle gap, with low ceilings to the left and right. Two low hanging trees guard the pin of 2, and 4 is guarded by several tree trunks and low branches.

While teeing from the path isn't ideal, it does have the added perk of not endangering the walking path with discs. Only a really errant throw on 3 or 4 will have any chance of that.

The next tee sign is always easy to find from the previous basket. It may be a little ways away (5 to 6), but you can always see it.

Cons:

The baskets are a single ring of chains. While this does make the course artificially harder, it doesn't add value to the experience.

No actual markings for where to tee from. This would be nice to know whether to go left or right of the tee sign.

The basket of 5 was damaged when I played.

Other Thoughts:

This course needs one of two things to be done. Option 1 is to put three more holes in the middle of the park, there's plenty of room if we're keeping the distances similar. Option 2 is to paint markings for the tees, then to add a second set of longer tee options and paint those with a different color of paint. This would add variety and new shot shapes.

Overall, this course is geared toward the kids, but adults can come out and try their hand at something new and experienced players can use it to practice tricky upshots (looking at you, hole 4). If I were an Ottawa resident, I would not overlook this course as "just a beginner course," and neither should you.

While I can't rate Heritage Park very high due to it only having 6 holes, this is definitely not a waste of time to make a 10-minute stop at.

Actually has some character

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 17, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

For only being six holes, this place isn't too bad. Every hole is different, with varying amounts of distance and obstacles in the way. Subtle elevation change sometimes goes a long way on a few holes for players who aren't super experienced.

The tees are on the asphalt paths, and the holes play away from it. This is a great combination of using existing infrastructure for the course without sacrificing safety.

Hole 5 has a hanging basket (but with a crooked cage). The final hole is a "bomber" slightly downhill hole (only 200 feet, but longer than anything else). Hole 3 is the overall best hole, offering a few lines and having a low ceiling.

Lots of spicy ace runs, but for holes this short, do they really count?

Cons:

Okay, there's only so much you can do with six holes, and there's not much distance at all. Most players will easily drive to the basket with a putter on a lot of holes, and it's just a matter of avoiding that one tree in the way. This can be some good practice, with putter upshots that should be routine, but as the holes themselves, it's not ideal.

Hole 4 isn't great. It has a tight gap off the tee, which will be a problem for beginners, and the creek has some water in it. But if you know what you're doing, a straight shot will skip right up to the basket pretty much every time.

The path does have the opportunity to get in the way, even though you're throwing away from it on all holes. If your shot goes long, it could end up on the path on a few holes, namely 4 and 6, and an unlucky tree kick could cause problems as well.

Other Thoughts:

I think it's possible to have nine holes here. The north part of the park might be available, depending on where the property line is, and I wouldn't mind a few crisscrossing fairways if it means you have nine decent holes. There could even be one hole to the far south of the park.

Overall, this place isn't anything special, but it's a decent one to grab if you're in the area, and is a good warmup course if you're headed to Forest or Kanza.
