I live on the West side of Dayton, so I often overlook Karohl and I wish I played here more often. The variety of shots here keeps the round from getting boring and redundent. I wish the undergrowth was more controlled, but there's not a lot to be done about that. Worth a drive from anywhere in Dayton

Not much, mainly just that Hole 2 and the way to Hole 3's tee can hold water for a good while. Luckily the wooden bridges help with this.

Amenities:
- Parking: A bit on the smaller side, but it's usually never crowded so this shouldn't be an issue.
- Restrooms: Porta potty in the parking lot.
- Running water: None.
- Benches: At least some that I saw.
- Trash cans: Plenty.
- Bag holders: On most holes.
- Tee signs: Newer tee signs showing a map of the hole, par, distance, and the direction to the next tee pad.
- Next tee/direction signs: None near the baskets, which is likely because the baskets were originally Predator Great Whites. The implied path to follow is, however, helpful with this.
- Wheelchair/cart friendly: Somewhat - some holes may not be friendly in this regard.

Finished a recent Dayton area weekend visit by throwing Karohl Park before hitting the road on a crisp Autumn morning. It was a great choice to play after two days of disc golf as it proved to be a very fun layout, but not overly challenging to a tired arm. The park appears to be primarily for disc golf so there won't be many if any other activities going on. It's a decent tract of land that offers a gentle mix of open and wooded holes. Distances are geared for the intermediate player and the course is not overly difficult but still maintains a respectable technical aspect.

It appears recent improvements are being installed due to fresh looking long concrete tee pads on various holes and some decent pruning. The course was clean and easy to walk. It's a fun course that is well suited to casual groups of various skill levels. I enjoyed the different lines required off the tee along with a nice mix of wooded holes and more open ones.

The course is relatively flat, and there is some repetitiveness involved, but overall neither of these are necessarily bad things. The course does get cramped in some areas and I could see this being a frustration if the course sees busy days.

A fairly standard, straightforward course that is well maintained and appears to only be improving. I enjoyed my time here more than the rating may indicate, and it's worth the visit for a fun throw.

I liked this course cause it had a nice mix of varied holes. Some hidden baskets allowed for use of angle shots and some holes required thought in order to figure out the best 2nd approach shot.

Its nice the local maintainers of this course have cleared out a lot of the brush beside fairways so its not very thick and I found it easy to retrieve discs that were off course.

A few holes did have a good challenge in trying to get around trees and lines were tricky so thats a good thing but not too many.

Another nice thing is that many holes are sponsored by particular enties/companies and they have installed wooden stands acting like 'coat hangers' to allow players to hang their bag/backpack of discs to while they throw.

Some baskets have been moved to harder pin positions from what I think were previously looking to be easier ones and that is a plus I think since a lot of the holes are fairly short.

Grass has been cut after baskets to pretty much show where the next tee lies or hard packed dirt paths from baskets leading to next tee allows for navigation only once did we have to question how to get to next tee pad and seemed like majority of the holes had signs pointing toward next tee.

One thing and its picky but do watch out for short roots or tiny stumps sticking up on some of the areas where the brush or trees have been cut away recently. These I feel will gradually disappear over time but just be careful when you walk or step to throw that you are aware of these.

Overall I found this to be a very nice beginner course and yet it does have some challenging holes too. Having played all of the courses in the dayton area its nice to have a course that is flat and one that allows newer players to join the sport and not be completely overwhelmed at first.

Thanks to the designers and to those who maintain the course for their efforts. Also course was very easy to find and sounds like from what I read that more course improvements are in store in the future.

The Dayton area has had several new courses installed in the last few years, and Beavercreek's Karohl Park is one of them. Over the last 18 months, it's transitioned from a scrubby, soggy deuce-or-die track to one of the 2-3 best in greater Dayton. The county parks department does frequent maintenance, and the greens & fairways are cut regularly.

There's a great mix of hole types here, with the front 9 being more open and the back 9 being more heavily wooded. You'll need both a forehand and a backhand to score well here, particularly in the wooded section. Highlights include: Hole 4, with its late window near the basket on the right; Hole 11 in the long position, with an open tee shot to a wooded approach; and Hole 12, a 400' tightly wooded beast (one of the best holes in the Dayton area).

All teepads are concrete, and there are short and long tees on 7 holes to provide appropriate challenge for different skill levels. Multiple pin placements are available on most holes, and baskets are rotated frequently.

Brand new Veteran baskets (one of my favorites) were installed in June 2019 to replace the controversial Predator Great Whites. There's a practice basket available by the gravel parking lot, and it's often used as a 19th hole during events. A port-a-john is by the parking lot as well.

You're unlikely to lose a disc here unless you're playing it in the summer (see Cons).

This course is really flat, and that presents a couple of downsides. First, there's not much in the way of elevation change to liven up some of the more open holes. More importantly, it doesn't drain all that well and gets squishy when it rains. It's especially bad around the walk from hole 2 to hole 3, though some of this was a result of neighbors emptying their sump pumps into the park. They were caught and have stopped doing this, and it appears to have alleviated the problem somewhat. The parks department installed wooden bridges over the worst of it.

In the summer the rough gets really thick here, and if you shank a tee shot it can be a pain to find your disc. Worse, there are lots of deer at this park, and that means lots of ticks. Make sure to bring bug repellant.

A tall chain link fence down the left side of hole 11 and right on 18 defines the park's property line. Do not jump this fence to retrieve lost discs. One of the locals works with the property owner to get them returned to their owners.

Every hole except 6-9 has either had additional pin placements or long tees added, and as a result most of the tee signs are out of date. Until the new signs are installed you should check the distances listed here on DGCR. Those are correct.

With all the work that's gone into this course recently, reviews from before late 2020 don't remotely reflect its current state. If you haven't played it recently, definitely give it another try. It's better than you remember.

Tee pads are concrete and in good shape.

Maps are great and in good shape.

I really like the design of the course. It has well defined fairways and a lot of the baskets have circle greens that are cut to the same length of the fairway. It loops you back to your car at the end which is always nice.

#12 is this courses signature hole. A 400 foot wooded S leads to some high scores. This hole is needed at Karohl to make it a little more challenging. If youre a good RHFH thrower you will probably post the lowest score on this hole, for anyone else good luck getting through the maze of trees.

There is a porta john at the beginning of the course which is always a good thing in a park setting.

There is a variety of hole distance out at Karohl. You will play some longer holes like #2, #9 and #12 and #18 and you will play some really short aceable holes like #8? or #7?, #10, #15 and #16.

Surprisingly you will use a lot of shots in your bag here. The front 9 you will be like wow this is kind of boring and just through some fields but the back 9 really brings this course to life. You will find yourself needing distance drives, short accurate drives or mid ranges through the woods and needing to putt really well for birdie. I used my Buzz OS mid-range firebird and krait out here tons on the back to get me around some heavily wooded holes. A Shark or Sidewinder can be used when you find yourself straight on to the basket.

The best thing this course does is offer a mix of open bombs and tight and technical. Although probably more open bombs than T&T you will find your holes that play well for you if you are better at accuracy. #13 might offer you the best chance to birdie and your open bomb friends to bogey if you can read the hyzer line well.

I will say that Karohl is an overall challenge. The mix of holes and predator baskets always keep you on your toes.

Parking is great and right by hole 1. .

This course has never been crowded when I have played it, which is a huge advantage.

The baskets are in great shape and are new predators. Honestly though I hate the lips on these things, you have some good putts or mid ranges rattle out because the lip makes for a tough in.

I am not a big fan of the foiliage maintenance here. We lost so many discs the last time we were out here and this is from 800-900 rating players. If you go left or right at all on some of the holes it might take you 5-10 minutes to find your discs. I will say it is a lot better maintained than the first time I played the course. I still think it could be better.

Little to no elevation changes. Park plays in flat open holes and flat wooded holes.

Not very much scenic beauty at Karohl.

Karohl is basically my exact thought on a 3.0 course. There are some forgettable holes and some holes you will want to play again and again. You will come here thinking about shooting really low and for some reason there are holes that just wont allow it. This course has gotten much better over the last couple of years and I hope they continue to make improvements. I would recommend Karohl Park especially for newcomers to disc golf who are starting to grow their game and want to test some of their skills.

Predator baskets are nice but are of poor design with the giant lip on the baskets...

First time played and have heard that the park wasn't in the best playable conditions in the past but when I played here, everything seemed in great condition and well kept!

New concrete tees with gravel around them and signs by Chainreaction Disc golf are in.
All fairways are mowed and have been expanded. The wooded holes have been cleaned up and playable. Wooden walkways to help in the wet areas with more to come.

Wet in some places during rainy season. Tall grass and thick rough off the fairways.

Karohl Park DGC is a newer 18 hole course in the Dayton area that needs some work to blossom into a viable option. The slightly LHBH/RHFH favored design features of a variety of hole lengths in a mostly open setting, rewarding good distance and the ability to stay clear of the thick brush. There are simple but fun delights to be had here: Hole 1 is a slightly uphill putter/midrange ace run through a narrow (but fair) gap in the thick rough. Easily the highlight of the course for me. Hole 6 is another ace run where a LHBH/RHFH shot with enough height to sneak under hanging branches has a perfect opportunity to fade right and smash chains. These holes aren't world-class by any means, but they are solid ace runs on a course with few positives.

Tee signs give distance and a basic hole outline.

The course's rustic, scrubby feel means it doesn't see a whole lot of traffic, and usually makes for a pretty quiet round.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- Concrete pads and new tee signs have been added on every hole. Bridges have been added on Hole 2's fairway, and the parking lot has been expanded.

UPDATE 3/12/21 -- Short and long concrete pads make for some fun layout tweaks. New detailed tee signs have been installed in the same style as Caesar Ford.

One year on, the heavily wooded Holes 12-14 are still in desperate need of clearing, although there is evidence of some work being done in these areas. Hole 3 could also use some additional clearing, and you'll struggle to find workable lines on any of these four holes. Similarly, the rough across the course is thick and unforgiving. There's a potential to lose discs in the underbrush, but also in the intermittently mowed grass fields in which much of the course plays. Be prepared to search in knee-high grass -- even for good throws -- throughout the summer.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- These problem holes have been cleared and are now playable, even if not quite yet ideal. I've raised my rating half a disc to reflect this and the other course updates (concrete pads & new tee signs).

UPDATE 3/12/21 -- Holes that were once walls of trees now have actual lines cleared. The local club and Greene County Parks have squeezed more out of this course than I ever thought possible.

Hole 2's fairway is a squishy wetland more often than not, retaining water for days after rain. Other open fairways can also get soupy, but don't hold as badly as Hole 2.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- Wooden bridges have been added across the soupiest parts of Hole 2's fairway, which definitely helps.

Natural pads are already showing signs of rutting.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- Concrete pads are now poured.

Routing is aided by the Predator baskets (whose shark fin toppers point to the next teepad), but some long walks make for a less than intuitive circuit.

UPDATE 3/12/21 -- Predators have been replaced by Dynamic Veterans, a big improvement.

The parking lot is small, but I've yet to see the course crowded.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- The parking lot has been expanded. This course gets a lot more traffic these days, so it's not quite as idyllic as it once was.

There's just not a whole lot to see here right now, and Karohl Park isn't worth playing unless you're in the immediate area. When it's not forgettable, it's frustrating -- a bad combination for an upstart course. Some serious clearing and more consistent maintenance might make it a second or third-tier option in the Dayton metro, but I don't see Karohl developing much beyond that.

Hole 10 is a silly little 120 foot flip through a narrow tree tunnel. I can't decide if I like it or not (it's certainly different!), so I'll file it here in Other Thoughts and let you, dear reader, decide for yourself.

UPDATE 5/17/18 -- As listed in the updates above, Karohl Park has undergone some serious work since my review was initially posted. Although its ultimate potential is still limited by the space & design, these updates go a long way towards making Karohl Park worthy of your local playing rotation. Golfers who miss full-strength Indian Riffle will find some solace here.

UPDATE 3/12/21 -- Basket upgrades, concrete pads, some positive design tweaks, and a LOT of clearing have made Karohl forgettable or frustrating no longer -- definitely a fun addition to Dayton's smorgasbord of good but not great courses. Nearly everything in my initial review has been addressed and dramatically altered. In its infancy, Karohl was a 2.0 disc afterthought. Five years of seasoning and a lot of hard work have brought it up to a solid 3.0 in my mind. Hats off to Dayton Disc Golf & Greene County Parks!

If you are a pro then you should love how challenging this course is. If not then you will spend most of your time looking for your disc in the rough if you ever find it. This could be a nice course if they made the fairways 20ft wider.

This rustic farm conversion course does a nice job of creating blind lines of flight to challenge the Intermediate level disc golfer to control shots from the decent tee signs to the excellent Predator baskets. The shark fin does point the way to the next tee. It's a new course, and has a mix of open field and tight - technical lines, even right from the start. The first hole is a teasing ace run for your mid/putter thrower, but the rough enclosing the gap you need to hit is pretty unforgiving. You might want to grab a picture of the map below the first tee sign if you didn't get one on the internet before coming here for the first time.

That theme seemed to be consistent throughout the course, even though there were really only four or so 'wooded' holes to play. The ones in the woods were really, really tight, and the ones out in the open usually worked around a thicket you do NOT want to get into, or finished in a tight gap in the wood line where your angle of attack becomes the risk reward challenge: go for gunning directly in there, or lay a control shot right into the entrance?

The course does finish in a beautiful, huge mown meadow on the 18th hole (though you still need to hit another gap at about 300 feet), and has another similar field beside the parking area, with a practice basket and a couple of picnic tables sitting in the shaded wood line.

In all, it's an interesting design, still in its infancy. It will be fun to see as it weathers in (there will be a lot more Ash trees coming down which will open up the woods lines, and the locals developing the course may gradually trim out some of the thickest stuff so you can at least retrieve your errant discs, if not make a clean up-shot).

The current course layout will entail a whole lot of disc search time if you play solo. Some holes would benefit from two to three spotters due to the thick hedges and the tall rough field grasses, weeds etc. They are currently mowing the 'greens' (yay) and about 12 feet wide on the fairways (boo), which means that, in the summer, at least, you might spend a lot of time stomping around in knee high rough (and potential ticks?) just to find your disc 30 feet from the basket. A mowing pattern that gets wider as you get closer to the hole might be more 'fair', and better for play.

The woods holes are currently only lightly maintained. The path to 12 was much better than any of the woods fairways. There is a tree down just in front of the 12 tee pad, and it's a 400 foot hole with gaps as tight as 10-15 feet wide between trees. Hole 14 looks like a rhfh S shaped fairway, but the gaps are currently as tight as 5-8 feet (though to be honest, several of these are already-dead ash trees).

Not that it's necessarily a 'con', but it felt like the course significantly favors those who can throw a left to right line. It should be noted that, right now, there are only tee signs, and no indicators for a foul line (toe board, stones, etc), though tee pads are rumored to be in the works. Finally, they didn't have any to work with, so don't expect any changes in elevation here. It was fine when I played mid-summer, but folks are already noting the muddiness of the flats during the rainy season.

The Karohl Park disc golf course has a nice farm conversion feel to it, and is currently kind of fun and rustic, if you have the patience to watch closely where your disc lands (or kicks!).

Reviewer Background as of this writing: played 297 courses and written 281 reviews, with skills hovering around a 900 rating, with folks ranging from age 7 to 87, so I try to write reviews helpful to all.

Layout of the course is mostly intuitive, though you may want to take a picture of the map at the first tee. There are a decent mix of shorter and longer holes, open holes and wooded holes.

Parking is only available for a few cars.The course drains very poorly, so bring boots if it's rained any time recently. Most fairways on the open holes are quite narrow, so be prepared to spend some time looking for your discs in the rough if you have an errant shot. Some of the wooded holes have little to no discernible line to the basket, even considering unconventional routes. Tree kicks will have you searching for discs in a considerable amount of ground cover as well.

-Two loops of 9 holes.
-First tee has a map of the course on the sign post.
-Tees are marked and have a suitable, if not fantastic map of each hole.
-Tee signs point you toward the next hole and I believe the fins on top of the baskets point you in the correct direction too.
-Variety of open holes, semi-open holes, and wooded holes.
-White predator baskets are easy to spot and are in good condition.
-I don't think there would be any reason for non-disc golf traffic in playing area. There is no walking path in area, no playground, shelters, etc.
-Hole #1 is immediately adjacent to parking lot.

-Natural tees.
-Small parking lot.
-The rough has a lot of thorns and could become an issue in the summer if allowed to grow.
-Course is ridiculously wet in spots. Will make it difficult to mow and maintain. I did play in the spring (mid-April 2017) but not for a few days after the last rain. Hole #2 was basically a swamp. Other holes were much wetter than you would expect.
-No water hazards or signature holes to speak of.
-The wooded holes are too much poke and pray.

The best aspect of this course is that it appears to be a disc-golf only area. However, my enjoyment of the round was tempered early after trudging through the hole #2 swamp. As of now, I would seriously consider skipping hole #2 and playing this as a 17 hole course.

Nice mix of throws, some wooded, some mostly open. Good use of what they had to work with.

Course can be split into a front or back 9, in case you have a limited amount of time.

What they had to work with wasn't all that much.

If the course gets spotty maintenance, the rough will make it unplayable. (Literally unplayable: there are a lot of thorn bushes in the rough, and lots of rough in the course. If the rough is mowed regularly, it won't be a problem. But only if the rough is kept in check.)

Small parking lot. This shouldn't be a problem most of the time, but it will make club activities difficult.

Google maps sends you to the wrong place on the park. This isn't a fault of the course, but if you're trusting Google to get there, it will send you to the south side of the park, and the parking lot (plus hole 1) is on the west side of the park, off Hohl Road. And hopefully this will get fixed at some point.

As noted earlier, they did very will with what they had, but they didn't start with all that much. There is a decent mix of technical and air-it-out holes, minimal elevation, and essentially no water or other obstacles. There is a fairly good mix of shots, and you don't feel like you're repeating the same hole with minor variations (one problem that many courses like this face).

[-]They used Predator baskets. This was my first time with this basket type, and I noticed that they required a bit more precision; I had a few shots that might have landed in other manufacturer's baskets bounce off the edge. Whether this is a good thing or not, I'll leave up to your judgement.[/-]

The Predator baskets were removed and replaced with more standard baskets. I'm sort of disappointed with that choice, as I felt they gave the course a certain flair.

As mentioned, the real challenge for keeping this course alive is going to be maintenance. This is a very early review (the course has been open less than two weeks), so I don't know what that's going to be like. Greene County Parks and Rec did get a levy passed last year, so theoretically they'll have the funding to keep the rough in check. But if they don't, there are thorn bushes in enough of the rough that this will become unplayable.

[-]Another early issue: the deep wooded holes (12, 13, and 14) have a large number of dead ash trees that are scheduled for removal. Right now, it's hard to throw any distance without a significant amount of luck. However, I doubt this will be an issue lasting past summer of 2017, if it even goes that far. As was mentioned elsewhere, hole 10 currently seems to be in the process of being re-routed, and there's an extra basket at the end of the course that doesn't have a designated tee. Signs are not installed, so I can't judge them yet, nor do I know if they're going to be putting in tee pads. A course map is on the park Facebook page, and is probably a good idea to bring, at least until they get signs and basket toppers (which I've been told will be set to point towards the next tee.)[/-]

This course has aged well. Greene County Parks & Rec did a nice job clearing out the thorn bushes, and they opened most of the fairways on some that needed it. There's still a tall rough, but it gets enough work that you're probably not going spend too much time hunting lost discs. And if you do actually lose a disc, there's a lost & found box in the parking lot, so hopefully someone will drop your disc in there at some point. The signs are very nice, and concrete tees are a nice finishing touch for the park.

The final analysis of this course: it's a nice, solid course that's going to be great for locals, especially given that some of the nearby courses are showing their age and are coming due for either removal or refresh. However, there's nothing in it that would make it a destination course: play it if you're in the area, but don't make a special trip for it.

There is one exceptionally unique hole: hole 10 is a tunnel shot through some tangled trees. Despite tipping in at 117 feet, this is a real hole that has challenge and risk, and despite being deucable, it still feels nice to just hit par on it.

New course!

- Course has major drainage issues. Must be given a few days to dry out after a rain, and even then you have mud to walk through on many holes.
- Distances on the tee signs are not accurate.
- Parking area is very small, and very muddy after a rain. Needs more gravel added.
-Baskets are Predator, with the extra chain loop hanging down to prevent blowthru's. Anything hitting left of center, the extra loop provides increased resistance, adding to chain-outs. As a result this style of basket has a smaller sweet spot than other types of baskets. Expect higher scores if you have a tendency to hit chains left of center.
- Hole #13 basket has been crushed by a tree and will need replaced.

It is too early to write a thorough review, so just a few thoughts for people interested in playing this course right now. The baskets were installed in Nov 2016, and the course is playable. All tees are also marked with a green fence post and sign. The baskets are Predator Great White's, so the fins point to the next tee (no tee signs yet) but it is handy to print the map, or pull it up on your phone. I found it easy to navigate.
The open holes have narrow fairways mowed close, and the rough is currently cut to about a foot tall. If they don't mow the rough next year, people will spend a lot of time searching for discs in tall grass.
The wooded holes...some work still needs to be done clearing trees to make throwing lanes...number 12 especially. It's one of those holes that you throw, and just count on sheer luck to make it thru the trees.
