Steaming. Pile. Of. Poo. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

--There are 6 baskets installed kinda plumb.
--The grass is mowed.
--There are no signs so evidently there is no OB anywhere.
--After all the courses I've played this is hands down the worst one I've ever played so I've got that going for me which is nice. Quite a feat really. It takes a lot of neglect and complete disregard for maintenance and pride in your park to get this abomination of disc golf to this point. Kudos to whoever is making a point of ignoring this course so effectively.
--At least none of the fairways criss cross.

Yeah...that's about it.

Cons:

Yikes.

--No tees.
--No signs.
--According to Udisc you're supposed to tee off adjacent to the previous basket. Sooooo..just kinda tee off wherever the hell you want I guess.
--Gotta love the fact that NONE of the baskets are locked or bolted to the sleeves. It's as if Huntsville is hoping that someone would make off with these poor suffering baskets rid the world of this blight to disc golf.
--Is the tennis court off of 4 OB? Who knows? Without a sign here to tell me I guess not.

Other Thoughts:

There is no reason for a disc golf course here. I mean seriously if you aren't going to properly install a course in a appropriate parcel of land within the span of SEVEN YEARS - PULL IT. There are 6 serviceable baskets that could be used elsewhere. Hopefully somewhere where they'll be appreciated. But then again maybe this course could be fixed...I mean all it would take is completely repositioning the baskets, installing tees, installing signs, buying more land or getting rid of a couple of baseball fields (good luck with that)...you know, start completely over from scratch.

Yeah, just pull the course and use these baskets elsewhere...ANYWHERE

I had fun, but it’s not good 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The main pro of this course is that it has 6 baskets in the ground, they are decent Innova Discatchers and in good shape.

After that, I'd say if you have uDisc and the ability to see the way to navigate and make it into 12 holes it's actually pretty fun and you have ace runs on a lot of holes. I hit the cage on #5 and almost got my first AL ace.

It uses the land and the ditches kind of okay, but the space and nature of the land is limiting.

They do have a couple benches and trash cans.

Cons:

No pads, no navigation tips without uDisc. Lots of trash and oddly golf balls all over the place. The drainage ditch is just deep enough to be inconvenient.

Plays close to a subdivision and I think every house has a dog, none were happy to see me.

There was also a dead opossum on hole 5, or at least I thought he was. Could have been playing opossum.

Other Thoughts:

This is the bare bones minimum what I would consider a disc golf course, but if you set up the holes right and throw in some cool safari ideas you can have a good time.

With so many good courses nearby, I don't know why you would do that unless you lived close and didn't have transportation, but you could and not have the worst time.

If anyone goes in the next few days can you see if the opossum is still there? I'm curious if it was actually dead.

Trees 1, Ghosts 0 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

About a 10-minute drive from downtown Huntsville, the Kent Robertson Park offers a disc golf course that is six baskets and little more.

There are six Discatchers available, and they're in good shape. They are also numbered from #1 to #6.

Since you'll likely be throwing from near the previous basket, the course flows easily, though it does finish with a couple-minute walk back to the parking lot. Also, the fairways do not interfere with each other.

Hole #4 is the best - excuse me, I meant "least tedious" - hole as it requires navigating the only tree on the course as well as the tennis court fence on the right.

This is a decent just-getting-started course for families with young kids. Except for Hole #5, which is 315 feet, the remaining five holes average about 200 feet in length. And they're wide open.

Cons:

There are no teepads or markers indicating where to throw from. For Hole #1, you can throw from the corner of the concrete area. Bring a second disc if for no other reason than to mark your tee spots.

Apparently, the course is mowed frequently; however, when I played, there was ankle-high grass in the field where the baskets are for Holes #3 and #5.

There are a couple ditches to navigate that pass through the center of the course. They were dry when I played.

Of the nearly 300 courses I've played as of this review, the Kent Robertson Park is probably the second-worst I've played. That description isn't punitive; it's simply because this uninteresting course is merely a field lacking in teepads, character and beauty. The only other course I'd rate lower was also six holes but was guilty of crossing fairways and awful basket locations.

Other Thoughts:

Previously Logan Park, the area was renamed in memory of a boy who passed away there many years ago. Several paranormal-themed websites seek to push the theory that the park is now haunted.

Believe me, there's nothing spooky or scary about Kent Robertson Park.

Except for how boring and ugly it is.

The Worst Course In Huntsville

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 19, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

(0.587 Rating) (REVISED - replayed December 2022) A family friendly course layout that can also be used as a practice area for skilled players in the neighborhood.
- FORGIVENESS - Sadly, there is not much good to say about this one. Like many bland courses, there are just about no hazards here, other than perhaps picking up a disease from wading through the stagnate trash-infested ditch water. Maybe right after a big downpour one could lose one in a swift current.
- COURSE MAP - A few years ago I uploaded a course layout with distances, but even without it, it's easy to follow this layout. The only issue may be throwing to basket (5) from basket (3). Hole (4's) basket is to the right, towards the bridge and tucked under the only tree on the course.
- QUICK PLAY - Baggers will likely approve of the 10 minutes and tally factor.
- FAMILY FRIENDLY - The course is very beginner friendly. Short distances and almost no obstacles. There is also nice playground in the park, so younger kids will have multiple things to do here.
- MOWED - The grounds appear to be mowed somewhat regularly. I have never seen the grass above my ankles and I have been here 8 times.

Cons:

Assured Disappointment
- NATURAL BEAUTY - This is among the worst looking parks I've ever been to, let alone ever thrown at. I'm talking about bottom 5 out of 577 courses played as of this review revision. There is nothing naturally appealing about this site. Open fields with the backyards of houses in constant view. Rusty chain link fences are seen regularly. The grass is more weeds and polluted dirt than actual grass, when seen up close. Trash is a constant problem here as well. The ditches that run through the park, pick up garbage from the surrounding neighborhood and then deposit it throughout the grounds during heavy rain events.
- 6 BASKETS - Having this few of baskets definitely hurts the rating. A few may argue that it's not even a course, although I'd disagree due to the numbering of the baskets and the fact that there are 6 baskets here. It is what it is.
- HOLE VARIETY - They really don't get much more vanilla than this one. Five of the six shots have zero trees in play. Other than a couple of medium sized ditches, no water or elevation elements are to be found either. I have the variety here also in my bottom 5.
- UNDEFINED CHALLENGE - Without a well-defined layout to follow, rating the challenge of this course is limited. For my review, I've rated the challenge by going basket to basket and starting per the course map. In this type of layout, even a MA4 level player (800 to 850) should be able to break par if played as all 3s. MA1 players would be unsatisfied throwing anything other than all birds. There are obviously numerous ways to throw a round here, but every course could say the same thing. Safari possibilities don't affect how I rate a course.
- AMENITIES AND EXTRAS - Just about no disc golf related bonus amenities. Even some of the core basics like tee signs and tee pads are missing. The biggest amenity positive is numbered DISCatchers. There are benches nearby hypothetical tee (1) and basket (4). There are also nice typical park items like restrooms and a shelter. The restrooms are locked during the winter and open around mid-March.
- WIND - Due to the lack of trees, wind will likely be an issue here.

Other Thoughts:

I try to play here once every year to see if there has been an epiphany. Nope, 2022 was not the year for it. Anyways, this was the first course I played in Huntsville after moving to the area in 2017. It has basically remained unchanged since my first go at it, except that the park name has changed since that time. I have talked to a few locals and heard that they use Kent Robertson for practice going basket to basket. I could see a family playing the course from time to time. Nonetheless, players from outside the area, should only consider checking this course out if they're an extreme bagger like me. I consider this course to be the worst of the 12 listed courses in Huntsville. The Mirabeau Apartments course had been in contention for the worst course in the city with this one, but that course is now thankfully extinct.
