Lots to like 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Overall this is a fun course with many different types of shots: wide open fairways, tunnel shots, downhill, lefty holes. Great use of water without being too intimidating or dangerous -- shots parallel to water, shots over water, a peninsula green (the front 9's signature hole). Some fun bombers.

Most holes have multiple pin locations. You will (or could) use a lot of different discs in your bag. Not too crowded. Pedestrians are present but not usually problematic.

Cons:

Teepads and signage are inconsistent. Some baskets are pretty old. Navigation is tricky in spots, though I did find Udisc's map to be reliable. Some of the walks between holes are long.

Other Thoughts:

This is a solid course. The locals are steadily improving the tees and signage so this course is definitely worth a visit. I live about 40 min away and only make it here occasionally, but I wish I got here more often.

I recommend using a spotter on select holes.

The parking lot by 26's tee would be a sweet tourney central!

Nice, big course on the lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 1, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Big course with extra holes to make a total of 27. The course has varying terrain with a great mix of wide open, tightly wooded, and everything in between. Elevation comes into play well here (mostly on the back nine and the extra holes on that side of the course) and a few holes play near the lake (mainly 3, 4, 5, 6, and sometimes 7 depending on pin placement). The course design was well done as far as requiring a mixed bag of shots to do well (doesn't favor righties, lefties, backhanders, or forehanders). There are a couple great "Top of the World" shots on 14, 17, and 18. There has been a lot of work done to the course very recently. There are brand new tee signs on every hole, including the extra holes which were previously unmarked. Brooms have been added on holes with concrete teepads. A lot of the benches around the course have new wood for the seats. There has also been the addition of a few "Next Tee" signs in some spots.

Cons:

Pay to park. Not a big deal, though. It's only 3 bucks. This is a multi-use park so there is a lot of non-discer traffic. There have been a few occasions where some holes had to be skipped due to this. One example that comes to mind was the one day we had to skip hole 12 because there was a family or little girls birthday party or something that was using the basket as a table. Hole 12 also has a walking path going right through the fairway so even if there isn't anyone camped out at the basket, you'll still probably have to wait for joggers or bike riders before you can take your shot. A couple holes have pin placements right next to the busy main road going through the park as well.

Other Thoughts:

All in all this is a pretty decent course. The recent work done to the course has definitely bumped it up a few notches in my opinion. Last Saturday there was a tournament held there. I would have entered had I known about it previously, but I'll be sure to enter one in the future once I get some more practice in. The locals are friendly and helpful and very supportive of newbies. I take my son with me usually and the locals are always encouraging towards him.

Perfect place to stop in between Sac and SF 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 31, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really fun course to play for begginers and more skilled players alike. Front 9 holes play easy but can be made very challenging by the water and wind. The course was definitely designed with begining disc golf in mind. 4 new holes in the front add an easy twist. Then the long holes start. The back 9 and 4 new holes without tee pads are awesome for big drivers. Also I love the baskets. They are well maintained and newer style. Whats awesome is that there are 26 very diverse holes that make playing the Lagoon valley course truly fun for all.

Cons:

Wind and water can kill your day, take very accurate well though out shots to insure dry play. Back 9 can get tedious for beginners with short throws. 8 new holes tee boxes are dirt or worse with a flag or rock as marker. Geese are angry creatures.

Other Thoughts:

First time out played an above par game but lost no discs. I think that is awesome because i watched a guy in waiters tromp around in the lake rescuing sunken discs. After talking with him he gave me a few disc to try out which made me and my friend happy because right after that he threw a disc in the drink and i happened to have just received the exact same type of disc. Keep throwing discs in the water, thats how you get better.
