Pros:

In a small town with not much else to do, the simple fact that it exists is a big pro. All of the holes except for #6 have signs, which were very helpful. The park grounds crew keeps it pretty well trimmed. There is a good mixture of long holes (#9 tops out at over 500 feet) and challenging holes (#6 and #7 require precision shots to get through the trees), with the character of both natural obstacles and man-made obstacles (such as the train caboose on #8). The cluster of trees at #5 is a lot of fun to try to work around, especially since you can approach the basket on the other side of the cluster from either direction.

Cons:

The tee pads are way too short. They have rubber pads for every tee, but there's not enough pad to run up. I had to start well off the pad, which wound up throwing off my approach steps more often than I liked.

Some of the holes (#3 and #9 come to mind) have low-hanging tree branches right in front of the tee pad, making it exceedingly difficult to get off a decent drive, especially for longer holes. While the grass it trimmed very nicely, the trees need some work.

I played four rounds at 8:00 in the morning this last time through. When I first started no one was there, but as the morning progressed on, there were several times I had to wait for joggers/walkers to pass by. The course runs along the jogging/walking path. I could see this being an issue at busier times.

Other Thoughts:

I'm not sure I would go out of my way to play this course, but if you're passing through Lamar or staying in town it's worth checking out. It's not a great course, but it's still a course that does provide some challenge to it. Play it several times if you do. I managed to improve my score each of my subsequent rounds on this trip.
