not the beginner course you'd expect 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 16, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-nice tee signs at each tee, Discatchers in good condition
-course map at the start, easy navigation
-small concrete strips or pre-existing walking paths for tees
-creek in play on 5 holes adds a mental challenge
-trees in play on each hole that require hitting or shaping a line
-alternate tee on hole 2 for safety (avoiding the basketball court) and hole 6 for an easier shot across the creek
-practice basket
-plenty of parking for a very small park in a pretty small town
-convenient bridges across the creek

Cons:

-very small area for the course in a multi-use park and it wouldn't surprise me if there are people here often
-potential safety hazards with the basketball courts, park benches, walking paths, and streets in play
-the course is definitely not beginner friendly with the creek in play
-some areas of the creek are fairly shallow and retrievable but some parts were deeper and very dark and murky
-lots of grabby trees right along the creek to help you find an extra stroke and lose a disc, especially hole 4

Other Thoughts:

This little practice course must be fun for somebody nearby but it is certainly not the beginner friendly course you would expect to find in a small town public park. The creek that runs through the park is in play on 5 of the 6 holes and it presents a very clear danger if you are playing for a 2 on each hole or if you are not confident throwing 50-100' relatively accurately. Tough on kids or beginners but kind of cool for the experienced player as a practice course that adds an element of mental challenge to an otherwise boring and easy round.

The tee signs and baskets are great and the tees are serviceable but the park is just so small. The park itself is in pieces between small side streets and there are walking paths throughout, basketball courts in the middle section, and a pavilion in the first section. All those in addition to the streets themselves are in play. The holes only range from 180' to 270' so it's just short game practice with water hazards or safety hazards as your obstacles. Notice: the creek is really close to the basket on hole 3; the big hyzer is easily punished.

For a few years this course meant not having to drive to Noble, Norman, or Pauls Valley to play. But with the Dragon course over in Purcell going in last year, this course seems a bit irrelevant now. It's an easy course bag though.
