This course was so close to getting a 3 in my mind, but just was a bit too average. It really is a nice course, and looks great given it's brand new. I love when the baskets have some color for visibility and these orange Mach Vs don't disappoint. Amenities here are limited like a typical unmanned city park, but for a short 9 hole round this isn't such a big deal.

The park was generally well manicured and with the exception of hole 9, stays away from other park activities. The throw across the soccer field on 9 seems unnecessary, although the raised final basket is kind of a cool touch. I don't always love intentionally raised baskets like this one, but the area is well built and wasn't too gimmicky. In general, I'd rather they found a different way to do this for safety/playability reasons, but I suspect the soccer field is often deserted and the city is trying to make dual use of the space, which is understandable.

This course generally isn't too tough, but there are some fairly tight fairways on the wooded holes which encompass most of the course. I think you could definitely bring a beginner here and have a fun time but there's still some challenge to hit par and/or birdie anything. The generally nice park is somewhat disturbed by the nearby highway which is really noticeable from about holes 2-4.

The rubber tees are just ok, and while I appreciate the variety that dual tees of many of the holes offer, rubber tees really can be unfun when it gets wet. It was raining the day I was there and these tees didn't seem too slippery, so they are serviceable enough for now. Navigation was pretty straightforward, although a few more next tee signs wouldn't hurt. There were some for the longer walk between 7 and 8 which was appreciated.

One thing that was really cool at this course was in a couple of places (I think holes 4 and 7 or around there), there were full maps of the course to kind of "remind" you where you were relative to everything else at the 1/3 points. This is a really cool perk that I've never seen on another course, with almost 140 played. I would love to see this on more courses, it is a neat idea. The tee signs have maps for the individual holes at both tees and were very nice, but I'd never seen these full course maps besides at the start of a course.

While this park is very nice, there isn't any real wow factor setting it apart from other city parks. It is probably a bit more wooded and definitely on the above average side, but it's still a relatively ordinary city park. No elevation change is really present, but it's a fun, casual round if you're passing through bagging or if you live nearby. I'd love to have this course in my area for the quicker round. I combined it with Yellow Banks Park for a pretty quick pass through the Wausau area. Some players will note how short this course is; there's only one hole over 300 ft and most are under 250 ft. Personally, I don't mind this at all in a more technical course that's mostly wooded, but some people might.

Hole 8 is kind of cool with some up and down hillocks, but the gap to hit seems unrealistically tight to me. It's probably 5-6' wide between the trees, and I'm not saying it can't be hit, but I sure couldn't do it consistently. I love a challenging line to hit, but personally I think this one could have been slightly wider.

Overall, this was a really nicely done new city park that I encourage others to check out when they're nearby.

Layout makes the best of what the park had to offer. There's a good mix of forest and field holes. It probably took a lot of work to cut through the woods for some holes and there's a lot of stumps to look out for.

Should be minimal interaction with other parkgoers but two holes get close to a tennis court and a soccer/baseball field.

Informative signs that clearly indicate alternative tee pads and course layout.

I played the short tees on my playthrough as I was just looking for a quick round during a travel break. It seemed like the short tees favored right-handed backhand throws while the long tees were better for right-handed forehand. I doubt that was on purpose but it was pretty consistent.

The hill the hole 9 basket sits on is nicely built. I enjoy these built features on courses as they display a kind of care and professionalism that a disc golf course can add to a park.

Easy to get to the course from the highway.

There are a ton of trees and many of the fairways have unforgiving roughs filled with many small trees that make saving throws impossible.

Since it's a new course, the fairways are pretty rough yet with lots of stumps and uneven ground. Gotta watch your step constantly.

There's times where the holes feel a little close to each other but with the density of trees between fairways there shouldn't be too much risk of interfering with other players.

I went to the wrong parking lot (there's 3 different lots) and it took some time to find hole 1. It's partially my fault for not looking up directions but another wayfinding sign or two would have been beneficial.

Only 9 mid to short length holes so it's hard to justify going too far out of your way for this one. It's mostly good for travelers or locals who need a change of pace.

Also the proximity to the interstate highway really impacts the ambient noise here. Constant sound of traffic and trucks, etc.

Wausau needs more legitimate disc golf courses and this one is certainly better than most of what currently exists there. That it is only 9 holes limits its upside as a destination, rather it is better served as a pitstop on the way to courses further north.

It's great that the locals have a new, challenging course within reasonable traveling distance but it won't do enough to establish Wausau as a larger disc golf destination.

Liberty Park disc golf course is the newest addition to Wausau disc golf scene. And it's a good one at that. Nine holes in a disc golf exclusive section in the south section of the park. The course is free to play and permanent.

Dual tee pads on 5 of the 9 holes here. Hole 9's don't alter the shot shot very much just adds 30 to 40 feet in distance. The other 4 change the shape of the shot a bit more. Holes 4 and 5 especially. Making these almost impossible to 2 for most. Outside of a throw in from distance. Tees are nice grippy, level rubber mats layed down atop a gravel base. Nicely done.

The baskets are brand new orange powdercoated Mach V's. Love these things. They caught great today and are some of my personal favorite targets. It appears there's one pin position per hole. I could be wrong about hole 7 I believe it was. It showed 2 pin positions on that hole's tee sign, but the righter of the 2 was crossed off. Maybe that's for later down the line.

The course offers a great mix of shot shapes required to score well. You'll have to use all the tricks in your bag out here. Especially if you end up off the fairways. I threw more sidearms today than I threw in the last calendar year it felt like. And I'm only half joking about that.

Pretty large parking area with a practice basket along the entrance into the parking lot. A few benches and trash cans scattered throughout the course too.

The tee signs are very well done. A basic but effective hole overlay map, Hole # with corresponding pad letter, Distances from both tees. The only thing missing was the pars. We played them all as 3's so it was a moot point in that respect.

Hole 8 is probably the signature hole of the course. It's not very long but good lord is it tight. You need to hit a probably, 6 foot wide gap 30 or so feet off the tee and cruise down a tight hallway to get a look. Anything even a little bit off the fairway can be disastrous.

Hole 9 is the second most boring hole on the course imo. But the green is elevated and gorgeous. All around great design for the tiny piece of the park they had to work with.

I'm going to note this with the caveat that this is a brand new course. But my main gripe about Liberty is the rough. The course plays through mixed woods. But the little pine trees off the side of almost all the fairways make saving par with even a slightly errant shot nearly impossible.

A couple of the holes seem practically impossible to birdie. Hole 2 from either pad, 4A and 5A come to mind right off the bat. Maybe with a couple trees removed late in the fairway on 2 and this is remedied. 5A is essentially a par 4 as is. That or the toughest 300ish foot par 3 you're likely to see.

A couple holes play nearish to each other. I wouldn't really consider it a safety issue per se, more a what basket am I going to thing. From hole 7 the first basket you'll see is hole 1's. Actually I suppose that's the only one but it's worth noting.

I was torn between a 2.5 and a 3 for this one. I'm going to give it the benefit of being brand new and I honestly think it will improve just by foot traffic alone. A tree or 2 being taken out here or there would open up some more lines.

All in all though, this is a fantastic addition to the area and I'm certainly glad to have it within an hour of my place. Not a destination course by any means but pretty much the 2nd best course in the Wausau area behind only Yellowbanks imo. Absolutely worth a round or 2 if you're nearby or traveling through.
